i did this a long time ago and had about 50 people tell me their "formula" for how much power it should be getting. Almost everyone had a different number LOL. Now that i have an SMD AMM-1 i can find out REALTIME exactly how much power a woofer will see out of a wall socket. Why not try an SMD v2? If i get enough likes i will plug in a different woofer and blow the shit out of it for your entertainment. Lemme know! :D

I did this when I was little about 10 years old, everyone was asleep except me and my brother, he was on the phone or something and I was experimenting with wires and a cheap speaker, I hooked it up to a plug and plugged it into the wall and it made a super loud noise and the lights went off and on and I quickly unplugged it and we couldn’t stop laughing, we still talk about the experience once in a while, we’ll never forget it!

Next step should be the v2 in a box. I would've been shocked to see it die but now I wanna hear it in a car with an spl meter to see some numbers.
why? what good are numbers when every single car will yield a different result on the same exact setup. I would have to own a CRX with the standard easy-money SPL box for anyone to think it's good. Same exact setup in a Ford Excursion would do 10db (or more) less than that. So numbers are basically meaningless. I hear you though that would be obnoxiously loud (no matter what numbers it posts)

I laughed so hard at the first test on wall power, “ this woofer isn’t even phased” and then it just goes on to handle it like a beast. That’s a woofer man!

In the matter of fact, 20 years ago we did same experiment ;) I am from Bulgaria and we have 220v-240v and 50hz here depends on how far are you from transformer and what is the load from your neighbours... So a guy here in my town used to make speakers back then and his prices were cheaper than others and quality was better as well... One day I went to his place to ask for a good 18" subwoofers and he showed me one rated for 1000w RMS. Such power was very rare at that time from a single 18" driver, so I became happy to see such thing at first but also little doubtful it can withstand 1000w... Then the guy get a power cable and just connect it to terminals of the speaker :D I ask him what he is intend to do and he told me - to pug it in 🤣🤣🤣 And little after that he pluged it in for real ! I was shocked at first, but then realised that this is the best driver i've seen in my life because it didn't blew up 😆😊🤪😲 If we calculate the power 220x220=48400 / 8 = 6050w ! Pretty impressive ! He didn't held it plugged in for more than few seconds but that was enough to prowe its cappabilities :)

Obviously these subs are battle tested warriors but damn it has to be hard to test like that. That's some brutality brother! Thanks for taking us along to watch another champ take a beating and come out on top.

Lol omg my heart sunk when u done this... that's a bad ass subwoofer. When u plugged it up threw water on it I was like wtf is he doing lmao.. that just proved how good of a sub that truly is. I'm running 2 systems I got 8 orion hcca 12s but only run 4 at a time the other 4 are back ups for quick swaps instead of the recoil kits.. then the system that's in me and my wife's 350z is a sundown 18 X and I love that sub imma have to recone it soon one of the dual 1 ohm coils is out now but it's still slamming hard I can tell a diff but my wife can't lol..

We used to do that with speakers right before the warranty would expire so we could get a new pair. It's a rather unique sound. I highly recommend (for giggles) you install subs into a proper box first next time.

Steve, where can I send my AMM-1 for a firmware update? It never read "Real time Power" correctly. I have emailed Tony but he never answered.
We used to blow woofers on purpose this way years ago, the original Fosgate Pro Punch 15 4 ohm would never blow. We darn near shook the house apart. We estimated it to be about 2000 watts at 60Hz. We learned quick not to keep them in their ported boxes while having them plugged in.
how does this work? what limits the power? shouldn't 120v 1.4ohm be like 10kwatts? i'd be interested to know all the factors in play.
You also have to use power factor and account that the subwoofer is a reactive load not a resistive load. With a reactive load, the voltage and the current are not in phase with one another, so you can't simply just use ohms law to find watts.
also, relatively small wires limit current intake

I would imagine it would be a pure wave form I have seen power converters that use a modified wave form but I would imagine it is a pure signal

No you can see that it wasn't. That AMM1 has a clipping indicator LED. It was mostly "clean" power.

+/- 4000 watts on 110V that is nuts, you are probably closer to 2.5ohm total resistance from the breaker to the sub (110V/2.5Ohm = 44A * 110V = 4840W) are you using something like 50A breakers in US? Also please do not try something like this in europe (even though you will most likely pop the breaker before any dmg) but with 230V at the socket here and 2.5Ohm from breaker to sub, you can pull 92A(if you got massive breakers) resulting in 21160W ;)
