This video demonstrates two approaches for knitting the Round Toe for socks, the Short Round Toe and the Long Round Toe. How to determine the toe length you need, as well as how to modify the toe formulas in order to produce a toe of that length is explained.

This is a generous gift to knitters, thank you, Roxane. I have always knit the standard toe that is, four decreases each decrease row, but this gives me more flexibility in total length, It seems to me - or at least it's easier to comprehend how to adjust, using the spreadsheet. Thank you.

The round toe calculator sheet is FABULOUS!!!! Is there something similar for the whole sock and/or heel? I'm working on my first pair of socks through the August knitalong and am challenged with four issues.
I am new to this and for the life of me I can't find any links What am I doing wrong
I usually use a version of this toe, because it's what I learned first. But I didn't really learn any set numbers, and I have stumpy toes, so the ratio "knit 6 - 6 plain rows" never worked for me. So I've always used creative numbers from how mainy plain rows I wanted to how many decreases and where. In plain socks a combination of the set-up row and the first decrease row. And for stitch patterns I have adjusted where to put the decreases to match the pattern.
The other change I make is that I usually DO graft the stitches in the middle and only decrease down to around 16 stitches. This can look a bit odd and not as smooth when just off the needles ("ears sticking up at the edges") but it usually smoothes out very fast when the socks are worn. (and depends a lot on the yarn and the number of stitches)
I am so thrilled to find the spreadsheet! A question though. I initially tried the short toe, plugged my numbers in, it was too short for my preference. So I compared it to the long toe numbers, thinking I'd just do the longer toe. But then realized they're exactly the same no matter what numbers I change up top for row gauge. So whether I knit long or short, they end up the same length. There's something math wise I'm not understanding. Can you help? I'm working with 68 stitch sock (that requires a set up row to reduce to 64) and row gauge of 48 rounds/4".
When I plug in the numbers you use in the video for the spreadsheet demo, they do not match the outcome of the demo. My brain is very confused, thank you for any help :) *The only thing I can see is that E16 doesnt seem to be connected to anything, it stays at 68 stitches no matter if I change B2 (the # of starting stitches) from 68 to 90, to 100.
I'm not sure what happened to the spreadsheet, but I've fixed it so that it matches what you see in the video.

Rox, do you know why there is always 7 decrease rounds? I just wondered. I am not a sock knitter so I'm finding all this fascinating. And thank you for the spreadsheet! So VERY helpful!!
Because there are 8 sts in each group of sts. It takes 7 decreases to reduce those 8 sts down to 1 st. What varies each time is the number of multiples of 8.The number of decreases each decrease round varies, depending on the starting stitch count. If you look at the spreadsheet, it has the decreases laid out.
Does his require the number of stitches to be a multiple of 8? What if you don’t have a multiple of 8?
