I’ve seen MIA in concert a few times . My favorite time was the first time. She was on tour in support of KALA / - from the moment she came on w Bamboo Banga - the theater went wild- I was in the pit and it was just mad mad mad dance party . It ended with the fans over running security and dancing on stage w MIA . Love and respect for her MUSIC - ART - VISION ! ✌🏻

She was born in London to srilankan Tamils , she moved to srilanka along wit her parents when she wa 6months baby ang again returned at the age of 11 due to the civil war as a regugee. Her father was activist of EROS ( Elam revolutionary of students) an ally of LTTE.

She is a refugee and uses that to address the refugee situation now but she wasn't born in Sri Lanka. She was born in England which meant she was a British citizen since birth. For her mother it may have been a different situation.

Instead of asking loaded questions like that you could just look up her Wikipedia article and find out that, while she was born in London, she moved to Sri Lanka at a young age, where she was displaced by the civil war raging in the country.

Ummmm back in those days , the ltte would basically drag males into the army leaving their families hopeless . Basically , Tamils were really hopeless compared to us Sinhalese .......

@@hashhasangi basically she's born in UK which makes her a citizen of UK, her logic of her being a refugee is absurd. She's just using the war in lanka and her parents being refugees, ( which is also untrue, because her parents didn't flee to UK when the government was chasing them, for being terrorists, they rather wanted to move, but labeled them as asylum seekers so they all can get the citizenship.)
Doesn't fit the refugee card though. Besides, it is highly unlikely that somebody would leave Sri lanka on a refugee card unless it is to make money coz, the only thing Sri Lanka lacked is high paying jobs. Strange..
