    When I was a kid we would use an under bed storage tote as a litter box. He would stand facing the corner and stop peeing when we would walk by. 🤣 He thought if he couldn't see us that we couldn't see him.

She usually rings a bell when she needs to go potty outside but hasn’t don’t that when she pees in the same spot inside. What do you recommend I do?

      Hi Grace,
      I know you reached out to me on Instagram and we chatted. I want to put an answer here for anyone who has the same problem.
      My guess is that the weather has been getting colder and this is the reason she is having accidents. I feed my pigs outside so they are always motivated to go out.

    Hi Autumn, I LOVE your videoes, they are so informative! I'm a HUGE animal lover, all of them, and have wanted a pig for about as long as I can remember. My birthday is a week away and my husband wants to get a pig for me. He thought it better to let me know ahead of time, luckily! I have been doing A LOT of research and was led to your website. So thankful for that! My question right now is what do you use for litter in their pans?

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Elizabeth. Thank you so much!! I use rabbit pans for litter boxes. I buy them at Tractor Supply.

    • @elizabethvassarvaughn1788
      @elizabethvassarvaughn1788 3 роки тому +1

      @@autumnacresminipetpigs I saw that you like to use the rabbit pans, but do you put in any litter media? Like cat litter, or a more natural type of litter not clay based, ie corn cob litter, or crushed walnut shells, or pine, etc...? That kind of thing. Or do you just leave it as a bare pan? I would think they'd slip all around without something over the plastic pan bottoms.

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  3 роки тому

      I’m sorry, I misunderstood. I don’t use any litter. Kitty litter is dangerous since they will eat it and it will cause a blockage. The only safe litter is Yesterday’s News. It’s recycled paper pellets. They eat it but it is safe. They make a huge mess too. I don’t care for it.
      I also used disposable pee pads but they also chew on those and the plastic can cause problems. Washable pee pads work well but I got tired of washing all those pads.
      I don’t use any litter or pads. The rabbit pans have a textured bottom so they aren’t slippery. Regular litter pans are too slippery to go without some form of safe litter or pads.
      Does this make sense?

    • @elizabethvassarvaughn1788
      @elizabethvassarvaughn1788 3 роки тому +1

      @@autumnacresminipetpigs no worries that makes perfect sense to me. I do wonder if the crushed walnut shells litter would be bad for them if they ate it? That's all that is in it, and they are crushed into small "grains". No matter though, if they are ok in the rabbit pans, that's good for me. My next challenge is to get our city codes changed so we can have mini pigs as pets, right now they are classified as swine livestock. Gonna give it my best shot anyway! Thank you so much Autumn! I look forward to your next video and learning all I can about these precious critters!
      And the brand of the walnut litter is Naturally Fresh. I use it for my cats and really prefer it over other litter. No clay dust or silicates to bother kitty noses and respiratory systems, or ours either.

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t know anything about that litter. My guess is that the pig would eat it continuously because it smells like food and make a huge mess with it. I would error on the side of caution and not use it for the pig. Also, make sure your kitty litter boxes are out of reach of the pig.
      Wow!! Good for you!! Most city and town laws are so old and have never been updated when it comes to pigs as pets. Please keep me posted!

    I am getting a potbelly piglet in a couple of weeks. She has been trained by her mama to go potty in a corner of their pen (outdoors). Do you recommend me getting a sample of their stool to put in her new litter box to hopefully encourage her to go there?
    How much social time does one potbelly pig require through each day?

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  10 місяців тому

      Congratulations!! Yes, a sample would be very helpful for her to understand where she is supposed to go potty.
      As far as social time goes, it depends on how much she has been socialized up until you get her. If she has been worked with a lot, you will just need to bond with her. That will take a couple hours a day.
      I have a course for new pig owners. It talks about socialization, potty training, earning trust, bonding, avoiding common mistakes and teaching self contentment. It can help you get started on the right track. I will add the link below so you can check it out.

    my spouse and i have recently found a wild piglet on the road during one of our tropical depressions. He didnt run but instead had Walked towards our car. Looking to see if mama was around first before we get attacked we opene our car door and he Walked right up to us. Very tiny black piglet can kinda see his ribs. And how cold he was. And as young as he seems i knew that keepkng him warm was the number one thing we needed to do. I am not too familiar about their diet if you can help with that and it seems like he squeals when i am too far ahead of him. He is so tiny and barely had any hair. How do you also tell the age? He goles to our front door when he needs to petty, he seems to like pottying where our ducks hang out. And loves to follow our 4 legged children through the house. Is it bad that he has ro sleep near me ?

      The reason they poop when being held is probably fear. They probably don’t understand that they are supposed to potty in the litter box. I would put some pee and poop in the box so they understand. Put the box in the corners since that’s where their instinct tells them to go.

The people seemed very nice but we discovered she has lice really bad.so I put lots of diatomaceous earth on her, washed her in dawn dish liquid then oil her down with baby oil. I think I need to keep her in the barn for a week because idk how to properly get rid of lice and I don't want it to get onto my 4 yorkies. Please tell me there's a home remedy or something cheap that I can use to treat her. I named her Debbie Deb. She has an old soul but she's so cute. Please help me with any type of information. @autumnacresminipetpigs  6 місяців тому

      @@phsycoyella3891 hi! So, I just want to make sure it is lice that she has.
      You can see them? Lice can be seen by the naked eye. Pig lice is species specific so they can only live on pigs. If you can’t see a bug but she is itching herself raw, it could be mites.
      The Dawn wash and oil could potentially kill the lice but the Dawn will dry her skin out so bad that it could lead to another problem. It won’t kill mites.
      If you treat with Ivermectin, that will clear up both lice and mites. You can order a small bottle on Amazon or find it at Tractor Supply.
      Ivermectin Dosage:
      0.2 ml per 10 pounds of body weight
      I give it every 7 days for 4 weeks in a row. So every Monday for 4 weeks in a row. Although the bottle says injectable, it can also be administered orally. You can just put it on her food.
      It will begin to look better in just a couple days but make sure you give all 4 doses. The Ivermectin kills the bug but not the egg so each dose kills the live bugs. Four cycles should be enough to get them all.

    You’re info was the most helpful I’ve found so far. My pig is suppose to be 10 mths old. I’ve only had him for a month and he uses the litter box but will also pee anywhere in the house. On rugs, in the bedrooms etc. I had a second litter box out and he poops and pees right next to it or a foot away. I even put some of his poop in it and was no help. I don’t know what to do. I am going to try pee pads in those areas next. Also his room is approximately 5 x 8 and has his enclosed crate, water and litter box in there. He does use that box with no accidents in “his room”. You said not to have litter box close to where he eats but is that ok?

      This is very common. His bladder isn’t mature yet. I have some questions for you to help get to the bottom of his issues. Is he neutered? Did you leave him in his room for the first week or so in order to let his new home and potty area imprint on his brain? How much water does he drink in a day? Does he ever go outside to potty?
      I would love to do a consultation with you. We can talk face to face via Zoom. It’s so much easier to help when we can do that. I charge $65 for 1 hr. During that hour I will answer all of your questions and help make this your best ever pet!!
