SeaDoo Switch Compact 13' owner here. I would if you own the smaller one like mine do not take it into open water! Although I have not done that with mine we already had a scary experience a few weeks ago within the intercoastal waterway. Basically our switch took on water and did a nose dive after catching a rough wave/wake created by a passing boat. Not sure how it did not flip completely but my Wife who was sitting in the back seat was catapulted and thrown overboard and so where other three people on the boat, I managed to hold on and somehow the pontoon recovered. So that proved to us this little craft is only made for calm lake or intercoastal water only. I guess there is a big difference from 13 to 18 when it comes to that.
I went to a local dealer and looked at these boats. I loved the concept. Boat feels much bigger than it is. But it's all plastic. Brand new boats sitting in the lot for the past year look used. The plastic around the outside fades quickly. Makes you wonder how long until it begins cracking especially in salt water. Because of all the plastic around the outside we decided to go with a different boat.
Also good to mention for small watercraft; wind over 15kts isn’t boating weather on the ocean. The swells toss people around and it’s not enjoyable at all. As a captain it would be really irresponsible to keep people in that situation due to danger of going overboard. If the caps are white and the boat is small, find something else to do that day. Flórida is fill of fun stuff!
Everything is relative, and every day in "rough water" resets the bar for what you personally consider rough water the next go around. If you spent any time on the ocean this is a perfectly calm day, but for people inland this might be the worst day possible on their lake. Either way it's helpful to understand the boats behavior
PBeach here, own a 18-230. great boat! Taking it in the pass of Ft Pickens, this boat being a tri hull was quite stable. Don't overload the payload, use common sense, and you'll be fine
Yeah, looks calm but those are a little rough waters. Took my 18-230 to the pacific off the coast of Oxnard a few weeks ago. Now that was rough. We got a little scared so didn’t make it more than a half mile off shore. Those waves are a little much for the switch but it handled really well. We got sideways a couple of times and since it was me and my teenage boys I thought I’d better not push it. I do believe this switch could handle super rough waters as long as you’re navigating the waters slowly and thoughtfully. No one out here on the west coast has seen these much.
@@JetBoatPilot Thanks for the response, I am a New sea-doo owner and went to the bay in VA the other day but all the boats were making all this waves and seemed like the sea-doo could handle it well, mine is 21 foot and it was 7 on board, but for the most part I think it was me who probably didn't know how to maneuver through the waves and lately your videos have been very helpful on the sea-doo
@@castrejon1982 There's really only one pointer I can give you when you're in other boat's wakes and that is to quarter them. That means approach the wave at a 45 degree angle. Don't approach head on and don't try to run along side the wake. A 45 gives you the least amount of shock and the safest crossing. Otherwise, keep the bow up and the weight in the middle to rear when in the rough.
This is actually the first pontoon (tri-toon) I have EVER seriously considered buying, we have a center console v-hull for fishing. My wife has always wanted more of a party boat, but until now (unless your looking the the most high end tri-toons with twin 350s) they are mostly all floating docks that dont handle bays, putt putt around, generally mini-vans of the water...we still have 2 stroke gtx's that run great so I wouldn't be concerned with reliability....do Sea-Doo superchargers still require routine replacement? Thats the one thing keeping me away, our 2 strokes keep up with, or outrun most of the newer N/A skis, didn't seem to make sense to change to 4 strokes.
It's definitely appealing to those who want to have fun! This thing is a ln adrenalie rush in tight turns, a characteristic that some modern jet boats have a tendency to be missing.
I live in Panama City and was thinking about how easy it would be to put a couple of wheel E Trac tie downs on the cleared front deck for a small 2WD sport 4 wheeler !
The Switch looks interesting. But, I learned with off-highway vehicles that I hate thumb throttles and prefer a gas pedal on the floor; I cannot imagine owning a boat that required me to hold on to a motorcycle-style twist throttle all the time.
Yes for sure but we typically recommend to leave it floating in about knee deep water so you don't scratch the hull and you don't run the risk of getting stuck when the tide goes out.
Interesting package. Seemed your rough weather direction was mostly downswell, with following wind and seas. How was the ride gong into it? Is there a significant difference in the rides from the 13 to 21 ft Switch?
I have not driven the 21 in rough water yet. I don't have any experience with the 13 either. So far the 18 has been superb in rough water. The 21 had its first outing yesterday and the water conditions were pretty calm so nothing to share other than it rode well.
Lol as an owner of this boat for over a year now this boat absolutely sucks in rough water. If you're cool with getting absolutely drenched, yea it's good. But don't expect to ever have anyone on the front half of the boat and not have at least one moment where it takes an unexpected gulp of water that ends up on their lap. This even happens on a zero wave glass water day because of other boats' wakes. The boat is good, but not properly informing people just puts a bad taste in their mouth when they get the boat and it wasn't what they were expecting.
About several boats and pwc's. Having a finger control for the throttle I think we kind of bug me for driving long distances. I vote on the Colorado River outside of lake havasu. Where we have long stretches. I like being able to set the throttle. I know you weren't out on the water that long but how do you think that would feel. When I take my jet skis out my hands and fingers get a little tired. I know this video is a little bit older but I hopefully you'll answer back. I bought products from your company always do a great job. Everything fits well on my Yamaha boat
Go Pro cameras were used to film. Tjeu don't show the magnitude of the waves well. Trust me, the waves were large enough for me to say rough water and I've been doing this for 13 years. I don't stretch the truth for views.
Thinking about one as a Yacht Tender due to size , weight, seating capacity, avail floor space for grocery and party restocking, plus a little adventure versatility. What do you think about a Switch being Ocean only and possible fishing platform ( bays , coves , river mouths ) ?
It could be a good tender. It's lightweight. I am not sure how it will do in saltwater long-term because this boat was not purpose built for saltwater. We'll be observing how ours holds up in salt use since that's all our Switch sees.
Videos of boats going through Haulover Point showed one of these negotiating a very rough outgoing tide pretty well but several bow rider types sinking, l guess because the open bow acts like a spoon and holds all the water in.
Maybe, I need to see that. This boat has a flat deck with open side curtains. Water that could splash onto the deck could quickly escape overboard, but a portion would likely travel under the deck tiles and be routed out the back. Either way you're right, it would not fill up like a bathtub.
Question, do you need to hold your finger on the throttle the entire time your cruising?? I would not want to do this especially on a pontoon.. Nice video, i wish our waves were spaced that far apart here on the Great Lakes! The Great lakes are a LOT more bumpy because the chop ('breakers') are so close together lol
Hello from Miami, I'm currently in a wheelchair and I can't enjoy boating anymore like I use to. The Seadoo Switch looks very accessible for a wheelchair. How wide is the front door? do a 28" wide wheelchair ( that include side wheels) fit? Thank you in advance.
I have seen that the base model has a rear door entry, do you think that the cruise could be modified for one (or as a aftermarket item). It seems like it would be a good option for any of the switchs without the upgraded sound system.
59.95 per 18"x18" tile, $19.95 for the 4""x18" tiles and $269 for the helm area tiles. We'll likely be creating complete kits at some point but for now they're Ala carte.
You do need to make sure that you have a service center nearby. This is a new boat and I am sure they're working out kinks that only a SeaDoo Authorized Service Center can handle. If you don't have one nearby you may want to consider another brand that could service you better.
@JetBoatPilot Being new I'm sure they will service it for now if you buy it from them. My worry is 5 years from now. I have several centers within 50 miles and none will service the seadoo jet boats and with the switch being more boat than ski I worry the same will happen after a short time.
@tjsmith3060 this boat is selling at extremely high volume. I think it's Here to stay. It's going to take some time to work out all the kinks but I feel pretty confident that SeaDoo will be making pontoon boats for a long time.
How I appreciate the review it would be a better review if there were more than two people on the boat. I would imagine your ride would be much different with 6-8 people on there in total.
While all boats can sink, I think the Switch is not likely to sink with normal use. The pontoons are filled with floatation material and there is little open volume to fill with water. Unlike traditional bow riders which are essentially large bathtubs floating around, the switch is an open deck platform with covers over its storage lockers. Most likely water that were to come over the railing would simply flow off the deck and leave the boat floating safely.
I would not suggest taking it that far unless you have lots of reserve fuel on board. Also if you do planned to make the strip make sure you do it with many other boats.
Master chef dise it all the time 14 foot searaider searaer jet bist 16 galon6 mogs mercy 90 ho sport jet 96 mile range djnt need more dull never run iut
Typically you need a 9 foot opening. If you have an 8 foot opening you can lower the console and make it fit. But that is not easy to do. 7 ft is a no go.
Will....do you have the OEM fenders for your switch. Did you have trouble getting the clips to attach on the rail. I received mine and the dealership is saying they have to shave the clip that BRP said that is the way to get them to fit.
@Alex NutCasio yes, but not as painful as it might appear. It was remarkably smoother than I could have imagined. Yes we took some hits but they were not painful.
It does handle rough water better than most jetboats that I've been on. That is not to say that this is a great off shore fishing boat. I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how well the tri toons handle rough water.
@@JetBoatPilot I would make modifications to add extra fuel. I wouldn't just do it on a stock Switch. I have seen others do it on regular Seadoo. But added a cage for extra fuel.
Last week I try to buy the sea doo switch compact 130 hp and the MSRP price was listed at $17,999. I decided to add four more seats to the boat and with only that after taxes and dealership fees, the price raise up to $28,000., That is insane!. I end up buying a Bayliner element E 18, it’s a 2017 model full load it with two fish finders., T-Top extra large life, well tank, and so many more accessories for $17,000 even. The Bayliner capacity is nine people in the switch compact is five people.. It’s Sea Doo paying you any money to do this videos?
No, we are completely independent. We just love our Switch and wanted to teach others what we've learned so maybe it helps a bit. Dealers got in trouble last year and the year before due to supply chain Shortages. In order to keep their staff paid and their bills paid they had to increase margins on the units they did have. Now that supply is starting to recover you'll see them getting more competitive again. Margins will go back to pre covid norms. Prep fees and other add on costs will get negotiated down. Sorry you did not get a Switch but I hope you still have some fun on the water this year!
If you wanted a CHEAP pontoon buy a sea tracker. The switch is competitve with mid to high level. My 22' crest was 70k new. Switch same level is about 60k. So pretty fair priced.
A new boat will never be priced competitively compared to a used one. Look at cars... It's like that but even heavier depreciation. That being said, people love the novelty of the Switch line, but they're really just big pontoon shaped hunks of plastic. A real boat hull will always perform better than a pontoon.
After owning one, I realize that ANY of the Switch models are WAYYYYY overpriced for what you get IMO, plastic pontoons, and 95% of everything else made of plastic, and cheap plastic at that!!! We got rid of ours after only one season. The thing was literally falling apart with so many things cracked or broken (everything's plastic ya know) that it just wasn't sensible to keep it any longer. And for those thinking "big deal if there's no side entry", wait till you have one, and you'll realize how much of a gigantic PITA not having a side entry really is.
I don't think I'd chance it. The tank only holds about 30 gallons. I have not tested this myself but I saw another UA-camr state that they got 70 miles on a tank with some fuel left in reserve. If you do chance it I'd take some extra fuel with you to be safe. As long as you're not WOT the whole way you could make it but again I'm not sure I'd take that risk, not to mention that's an awful long time to be out in open water with no safe harbour to duck into if the weather takes a turn for the worst. If you have perfect weather you'd probably have fun and no issues. But the one thing I've learned about the open ocean is that things can go from great to total crap storm in just a few minutes. That's the reason I have not made the Bimini run on a jet boat just yet. Many of my friends have and most did fine. But one year several had big trouble and one guy even lost his PWC to the storm. No telling where that thing is today.
Would have been helpful to see it my man. I can honestly say ,and I'd bet 75% of the people on here would agree, that if it doesn't appeal to you than I could care less if it rides nice. JS
Just bought a switch for the upcoming season, if you’re in need of any more beta testers we’d be more than happy to help! Also, when they are available, where might we be able to find them?
Switch is a small planing center hull with outriggers, basically what every old Samoan pacific islanders and south american native indians used to island hop in the pacific and Caribbean waters, 18 ft and 21 ft Switch can make it just fine in high seas.
I see the point for sure and it’s up to u what level of security u provide, but I will never go out whiteout a life vest on! Trouble come fast and at that point it’s to late, I know first hand about that. look over haulover inlet channel, how many use them there? But sure compare them whit people basically grow up on the water. Reality is that majority of people on water is not that good as they think…
It's too bad there aren't aftermarket linQ options. Their accessories are ridiculously expensive. Love the modular and configuration options but they just aren't cost effective for budget minded customers
I'm not as acquainted with BRP as I am with Yamaha, but I am told by those who know much more than I that these engines are built to run for over 1000 hours with little annual maintenance required.
I've owned two Sea-Doos with these same motors, never had a single problem, even with the 300 HP version. Can't say the same for Mercury inboards where I've had a lot of problems.
@savagecub then maybe this is a new category, the ultra entry level pontoon. Lol apparently the prices went up so far this year they're not really entry level price points anymore.
Prior to the Switch I haven't generated a lot of interest in pontoon or tritoon hulls, but I have been to say I don't recall seeing a dayhead on on any pontoon or tritoon, entry-level or higher end.
I’m from Destin and I can tell you that’s NOT rough water at all. The switch will flip in bad water in the gulf. Is not meant for that, keep it in the bay!
The go pro really does not do the waves justice. It was really rough stuff from my perspective and I've been out in both calm and rough seas. For safety we will not film in hurricane conditions. Bottom line though, this little boat handles chop much better than expected.
Yeah naw. Don't like how all that plastic rattles and scuttles around. Add the weight of people, and it might get trickier. Obviously not the boat to take out on white capped days, but I will admit it kept the area pretty dry considering all the bumps it was hitting. Fun boats, but they don't come off as very solid, considering everything is kept together via plastic latches and mechanisms.
@teop7887 the boat actually rides better than some of my other v hulls. The backbone of the boat is aluminum I beam so it's got a solid core. The plastic parts are solid and I never hear any rattling on mine.
Guess you didn’t actually watch the video to where he talks about how the go pro doesn’t really pick it up. Which is true. GoPro’s flatten everything. But he’s in quite some swell there.
In Pensacola, those conditions would be one of our better boating days! 😜
Ddown here in s. la as well
We demoed a 21 in better conditions than that and it beat the snot out of us. Might be a good little boat for a small lake.
The gopro wide angle understates those conditions. Look at the horizon line when it’s rolling to get a better sense.

How I appreciate the review it would be a better review if there were more than two people on the boat. I would imagine your ride would be much different with 6-8 people on there in total.
would also be a better review if they didnt cut the video as soon as they hit a wave.
Thanks for the video it just confirms I'll never buy something so unstable and slow..
It's actually very stable compared to other boats we've tested. Speed is not super high performance but this little boat is alot of fun!
lets see some serious offshore fishing from a switch, im chasing marlin in my 99 speedster
I'd enjoy that. Maybe one day I can get my friend Justin Leake from Chasin' The Sun out there to show off the fishability.
Will the switch sink?…..especially with the poly material used in construction?
While all boats can sink, I think the Switch is not likely to sink with normal use. The pontoons are filled with floatation material and there is little open volume to fill with water. Unlike traditional bow riders which are essentially large bathtubs floating around, the switch is an open deck platform with covers over its storage lockers. Most likely water that were to come over the railing would simply flow off the deck and leave the boat floating safely.
Hey guys love your videos. Would you feel comfortable taking and 18ft 230hp switch from the tip of south Florida to Bimini in the Bahamas?
I would not suggest taking it that far unless you have lots of reserve fuel on board. Also if you do planned to make the strip make sure you do it with many other boats.

Would you take it to Bahamas??
No I would not, but that does not mean it could not do it with the right weather.

Can this pantoon be parked in a regular two car garage?
Typically you need a 9 foot opening. If you have an 8 foot opening you can lower the console and make it fit. But that is not easy to do. 7 ft is a no go.
Can this pull wakeboard behind? I don't see why it cant
It can, just not alot of power or wave height
Yes it can dint need wak fir sking
Has anyone put a trolling motor on one yet?
I have not seen one but I am sure someone has
Are there no side entry gates?
Not from the factory but we make some brackets that convert the rear corner railing into gates.
Do you have a list of your current model options/cost floating around?
Are you referring to products we offer?
@@JetBoatPilot No the Spark you had bought and configured outright (I know its a 2022 from your review video). Actually have looked at your site :)
@clarkebar65 we have several items installed on that boat. Email me at will@jetboatpilot.com and I'll get you a list with prices.
Will....do you have the OEM fenders for your switch. Did you have trouble getting the clips to attach on the rail. I received mine and the dealership is saying they have to shave the clip that BRP said that is the way to get them to fit.
I don't but I've heard alot of complaints about the Linq Fender. We're developing our own fender.
And no we don't have the OEM fenders. I have heard that many are having issues clipping theirs to the rail.
Can you drive this sea-doo at night unlike a normal smaller sea-doo?
Yes
So, did you see your chiro afterward? 😮

@@JetBoatPilot Chiropractor?? Looks to me like the poor passenger was taking a beating....
@Alex NutCasio yes, but not as painful as it might appear. It was remarkably smoother than I could have imagined. Yes we took some hits but they were not painful.
do sea doo make fish accessories for this boat
I imagine with time they will make some. At the moment we're working on some rod holders and a few other items to make the Switch more fishable.
Can this replace my fish pro trophy? Can it handle off shore fishing?
It does handle rough water better than most jetboats that I've been on. That is not to say that this is a great off shore fishing boat. I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how well the tri toons handle rough water.

what size switch are we seeing you demo here? this thing is wild
18 switch with 170hp
@@JetBoatPilot do you feel like the 18 is good for a family of 4?
@@twistedpain183 Yes, ideal. I don't think I'd be happy with the compact. The 18 is perfect.
Would you say the Switch has Great Loop capabilities? I looking to do in future but do it under 30 days to complete.
No, I would not. This is a small day boat with a very small fuel tank. You'd need tons of extra fuel cans just to make it from gas pump to next gas.

He's definitely paid in some way shape or form by SeaDoo. Not getting any kickback from SeaDoo......BS!!!!
Imagine if Viking raiders had theese lol
Are you Able to do a trip from Miami to Bimini? Really wondering. Professional opinion?
You need dual motors to go offshore safely. Unless you travel with other boats that can help in case of an emergency.
@@johnwatts8220 yes that is a good idea.

Would this boat make it from the Keys to the Bahamas? Possibly or absolutely never? New boater myself….
Probably not enough fuel to get you that far. Only holds 30 gallons. Plus weather can change quickly. I'd recommend you not try it on this boat.

Would have been helpful to see it my man. I can honestly say ,and I'd bet 75% of the people on here would agree, that if it doesn't appeal to you than I could care less if it rides nice. JS

The Seadoo switch looks like a pack and play but made for adults… that floats….

We're developing a panel that allows you to use any of the floor tiles to secure anything.
@JetBoatPilot Now that would be awesome 👌
What is the life expectency of these motors?
I'm not as acquainted with BRP as I am with Yamaha, but I am told by those who know much more than I that these engines are built to run for over 1000 hours with little annual maintenance required.
I've owned two Sea-Doos with these same motors, never had a single problem, even with the 300 HP version. Can't say the same for Mercury inboards where I've had a lot of problems.

not wearing a PFD, while doing a deliberate "test" in rough water, where are your smarts?
Never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. They were close at hand with a throwable very close. Don't try this at home! Lol
aren't you required to wear life jackets in the states??
Not unless you're under 6 years old. We do have to have them close at hand.and enough for every person on board plus one throwable.
It's a shame they didn't find a way to add a day head to it somehow.
This is an entry-level boat so not likely to see one either
@@JetBoatPilot
You see them in entry level center console boats.
Searay. Had jet boat h headed chef want sundacrre cabin. Cruser jet drjve
I’m from Destin and I can tell you that’s NOT rough water at all. The switch will flip in bad water in the gulf. Is not meant for that, keep it in the bay!
On the day of filiming the waves were over the top of my head at times. The Go Pro does a poor job of showing what we saw with our eyes.
Foot chop 🤣
How about rough water with full capacity? Of course, it's going to skip along with the majority of weight to the rear!
If you're in rough water you just engage the trim tabs in the bow up position and make sure that you're not over loaded in the bow.
Normal day in open water but it’s a lake boat so it gets a pass.
The go pro really does not do the waves justice. It was really rough stuff from my perspective and I've been out in both calm and rough seas. For safety we will not film in hurricane conditions. Bottom line though, this little boat handles chop much better than expected.
Ya .... Sea Doo is charging WAY too much for these boats.
They will have to rethink things if they want to keep this on the market.
Out of the gate the pricing was competitive but I think they thought they underpriced it and went up too fast.
Not bad but there was no weight in the front.
Arent these boats trash i keep hearing that
Wrong
Next time show video with more than two people
We'll try to do a follow up video with more people. My team has jobs to do back at the shop and its too cold right now to get my family out there.
Who takes a "Pontoon" to the ocean? Lol
C'mon man 🤔
We do!
That’s rough water?
Lol it is for a sea doo switch 😅😅😅
Guess you didn’t actually watch the video to where he talks about how the go pro doesn’t really pick it up. Which is true. GoPro’s flatten everything. But he’s in quite some swell there.
Those are 6-7 ft swells at one point, camera doesn’t pick them up
They are comparing it to its competitor a pontoon boat and its very nice
He’s purposely jumping 4-5 foot waves like it’s a jet ski.. I’d say yeah that’s rough water for a pontoon boat which are mainly designed for lakes
1) this is as calm as calm gets on most days
2) that little pos isn't doing ANYTHING in rough waters
3) enjoy the lawsuits coming, truly.
