TJ- how does the Aviator 2.0 compare to the Stratos in terms of stiffness and forgiveness. I am looking for a companion to my MET-- something a little stiffer, directional and for medium speed carving and al mountain slashing. I am 58 YO so dont something super aggressive. I like the Jones line. Thoughts?
Hi, I've tested the Aviator 2.0 and Stratos a few weeks ago. They are quite similar in flex but for me, I liked the Aviator better. Both boards were great carvers but I felt like the turn initiation of the Aviator was just a tad smoother and more confident. My main point of criticism with the Stratos was that the nose was almost as stiff as the rest of the board. I really would have liked a medium flex nose to get those butters with. The Aviator has double the camber of the Stratos and it has no rocker in the tips so it's definitely a little less mellow but the difference is small if you can snowboard well. It gave it a lot more pop though. If you ride powder a lot and don't really care about switch, get the Stratos. If you mainly carve and like to ride switch, I'd get the Aviator.
@@EssenceOfTrance what would you suggest for an east coast rider who likes to carve and is starting to learn park, but prefers powder when going out west once a year
@@Dmcjixjdndncnc Honestly, 2 boards. Carving and powder prefers a directional, stiffer board. When you're learning park, you'd want a softer, more forgiving board. If you're around the intermediate level and you want a one board quiver, I think the Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker would be excellent for you. Slightly directional shape for powder, magnetraction for ice, medium do anything flex, c2x camber for some forgiveness. It only compromises slightly in the carving and powder department but can do both still really well. Other great options would be Yes Warca, Jones Mountain Twin, Yes Standard, Jones Frontier. All are medium flex boards, do anything boards with edge tech for ice coast. Standard and Mountain Twin are a bit more freestyle boards, Warca and Frontier are a bit more freeride.
@@EssenceOfTrance I did bite the bullet with the aviator, and it comes Friday. I could return it.. but I’m pretty conflicted. The aviator does have better ice performance over the mountain twin, but is more stiff and performs worse in powder.. I’ll go more into detail about my riding if that helps. Intermediate rider that can handle all terrain well besides moguls. At home (icecoast) I often go with friends and cruise, or split off for a bit and do some S/M features. I’ve only learned 50/50 on boxes and how to do jumps.. but I’m going to try and take that a little further I think. Out west, I find myself carving a lot more, doing a hike for pow once or twice, or trying technical lines such as going through the trees. lmk what you think lol

Snowboards do not “expire” of a shelf life (at least if you do not get 10 years old board) so getting last year model is totally fine. For a “rad dad” board, I’d recommend to go with something slightly directional and tapered with rocker in the nose - these are easier to carve, and you can go to the trees or deeper snow. Something like Capita Navigator or Rome Ravine (Ravine Select if you are a heavier rider), K2 Passport is also a great board, maybe Ride Superpig, Nitro Slash, Korua Tranny Finder, Jones Mind Expander - there are lots of allmountain freeride boards actually. Bindings do a lot. For me, riding in good damp bindings end up in less leg fatigue through the day and more board control.

My brother has a DOA which I have ridden and I've tested the Aviator 2.0 a few weeks ago. The DOA feels like a 5.5, the Aviator is a 7.5-8.
