    Great episode! I can't begin to tell you the amount of Magoo's and WTF is this? I've seen on cars over 20 years as a tech. Some are definitely right up there with that fuel line to brake cable tie. WOW!

    KISS, keep it simple stupid. I use that acronym a lot. Thanks for the content. Went with electric pump for my 69 from Holley that came with the gas tank. I also got a spare with the master Sniper EFI kit. Dad had originally planned to stay mechanical but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life teaching my disinterested ADD rattled teenaged kids carburetors. Fuel injection that you can monitor with something like a phone, right up their alley.

      Agree that the carb is more mechanically complex, but efi brings it's own complications.

    When I bought my 67 coupe in 78 I had my Vin# on a laminated card, because just about every part I needed the parts guy would ask early or late production. Most of the guys wouldn't take your word, so I had to show them the Vin# card.

      LOL true. That was the case on a LOT of Fords that year. Several changes happened to make the 1967s very odd ducks.

    Jeff here's a tip for moving your lift. Years ago when I worked at Clifford Performance they moved from Costa Mesa CA to Huntington Beach CA. which are about 20 something miles apart up the 405 fwy. What you need is a flatbed truck. You raise the lift to where it's just a little bit above the flatbed back the truck under the lift unbolt the lift from the floor the raise the lift to where the posts are about 2/3 ft off the ground then use some heavy duty ratchet straps to secure the lift to the truck and just drive away. When I got my 67 Mustang coupe the fuel lines where mia so I order some per bent lines for it and of course they don't fit at all they had the right part number on them and everything but what they fit who knows. And by the time I find all of this out the company that I got them from had gone out of business. So a quick trip to Oreilly's a roll of aluminum fuel line and I'm good to go.

    Hey Jeff. I have noticed after my 67 mustang sets for a while, it takes quiet a bit of cranking before it starts. After doing some homework, I have come to the conclusion that the fuel leaks off, and the bowls go dry. So......I seen some videos saying to install a check valve in the system. Your thoughts? Oh.....it's a complete stock 289, with the Autolite 2100, with a mechanical pump.

    I was new to Mustangs, so When I got my 68 the tail lights quit working. When I popped the trunk I noticed I had an extra sockets beside the original tail lights. I traced the wiring to the tail lights. There was a hot wire from my brake light switch to the new bulbs. The wire that was used it...was...telephone wire....that went inside the walls.

    So the heat in the tunnel heats up the brake fluid in the rear brake line too?

  • @jeffrob073
    @jeffrob073 2 роки тому

    Nice 👍🏼 getting ready to run the brake lines and the fuel lines on the 68 Cougar. I can’t remember if my fuel line ran in the tunnel or the brake lines. It was an early 68 car with the 289

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 роки тому +1

      Early '68 would be out to the pinch weld. Mid 67 is when they stopped the tunnel run for the fuel ine.

    Awesome video! I wasn't aware of the early/late '67 differences and now I've got to go see how the lines are routed on my '67. Also, would love to see an EFI swap series on Cam's car. I'm debating between adding EFI to my 289 or swapping in a 351W from a '91 F150 that my dad has. Maybe a debate episode about the pros and cons of EFI kits (like Holley's) vs. adapting late model factory EFI?

    • @studiesfromthebible
      @studiesfromthebible 2 роки тому +1

      I know next to nothing in real life, but one of the great things about the Holley is that it adapts to what you have. I would think you basically are stuck with what came stock if you are using stock efi. Or would have to figure out how to tune it, not sure about early stock efi.

    • @tritter82008
      @tritter82008 2 роки тому

      @@studiesfromthebible Very good point about Holley's self-learning and tuneability. If money's no object, it's definitely the way to go. If I recall correctly Ford switched to Mass Air Flow (MAF)-type EFI in the late 80s/early 90s which does have some degree of adaptability (responds to increases in air flow, cam changes, etc). Not sure about its tuneability, though. The earlier Speed Density-style EFI can't adapt to changes in engine parameters and works off of pre-set "fuel maps," if I'm not mistaken. As you point out, with a speed density system you would be stuck with whatever stock fuel maps are uploaded unless you have the knowledge to build your own and "flash" the ECM.

      @@AutoRestoMod Most folks tend to stick with what they know, and you know carbs. Nothing wrong with that. I've learned most of what I know about them from watching your videos. They are a great help for us younger guys who grew up in the EFI era and want to get into the classics, but lack the "tribal knowledge" that older gearheads have developed over the years.

    I didn’t see how you actually installed anything….? I have a 67 convertible and bought a 3/8” fuel line anticipating a Holley sniper and in-tank self regulating fuel pump (58psi) from Holley. my question is, how do I splice the two piece line near where you drilled the hole? Just a piece of high pressure 3/8 fuel hose and clamps? Or some sort of metal compression fitting? I rebuilt the 68 302 into a 347 last fall!

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 місяці тому

      Or join the system together with a piece of hose and two spring clamps. If you are going to be putting an EFI system in there with a high pressure line then obviously you'll need a different fitting setup for that application. What we did was for a standard 7 PSI fuel pump.

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop 4 місяці тому

      @@AutoRestoMod yeah, right now I have a carb on it so I am moving the
      “clickity-clack” fuel pump to the rear just outside the tank and replacing the original 5/16” line with the SS 3/8”, so regular fuel line works for now. I am getting her ready for power tour next month!
      Thanks for the reply!

    Where did you put the clips to mount the line? I’m doing the exact same thing and can’t find this info anywhere

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 роки тому

      If you are using the stock clips (thick steel) there are holes on the frame rail that the large self tapping screws will go into.

    I saw your other video and left a comment and realized it was posted 4 years ago, i wanted to ask, Would it be best to do your own line? This looked a little tough and was wondering if I got a spoll of stainless steel fuel line I did the bends myself? Does it have to be a certain length or as long as it connects to the engine from the tank and tucked in safely? Thanks in advance.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 роки тому

      Some guys do that, I just prefer the look of an original fuel line on the car. It's definitely something I would do if I were going in and taking the rear axle and stuff out. It can be done the way we did it, it's just hard

  • @stephenhotzjustdriveit

    If I dont need an electric fuel pump I dont run them. I would have added a bypass regulator with a return line to the tank being as he is in the south.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 роки тому

      If the lines are run correctly, it won't need a return. Fuel pump placement was not bad, just not well done.

    In last video I stated Lizzie Borden hacked my Comet's line, WRONG, she was no doubt still resting from attacking the lines in that 1967. Is that one with kincked rubber hose a fuel or transmission cooler line??
    The comment on zip tie fuel line is incorrect, it's a fuel safety cutoff. Slam on emergency brake, zip tie pinches off fuel line.
