I’ve got a 72 that I’m gonna do a similar build on and am watching your build for ideas and what to watch for along the way. Thanks again and stay safe!
FYI : A guy might look into a 64/66 Mustang tank, guys are using them in the same way and same place in 48/ 52 F1 Fords without cutting on the frame . The earlier tanks must be narrower because the F1 frame is about 3” narrower than the 53 and up F 100’s. The early tanks might be too narrow to catch the frame on later F100/F150’s but if you’re going to build a ‘picture frame’ to support it anyways than wouldn’t be a problem. Just a thought.
@pgmgallardo5045 I may have some pics somewhere. I'd have to dig through one of my old phones. It's been 4 years and it's still holding up. Only thing is I'm just not a fan of how far it hangs down. Thinking about changing it to a tank in the bed and placing an old cut out steel Delta toolbox over it.
Thanks! I should have used that picture of the truck at the end as the thumbnail! Glad you guys like it, I'm getting excited to get this thing on the road.

@@330_garage3 I'm wondering with the drain plug in the corner of the tank could you just put a fitting there for a fuel line IF someone uses a FRAME mount fuel pump???
If having the tank hanging down like that is a concern, you might consider using a '67-'68 Mustang tank. Length & width and mounting holes are identical, but they're shallower. You'd lose some fuel capacity, but it'd allow the tank to be raised two or three inches.

Throw a Holley fuel mat in it and you won't have to worry about baffles. As big and flat as that tank is you can use one of their large mats and never worry about starvation.
Just did my 66 pick-up found a 52 Chevy tank is best way to go , only had to move front little cross member 2 inches and still clears rear and it has hole for pump and cover if you don't use it,, has side fill much better to fill from side,, only had to cut 3/8 inches off bottom of frame rails,, and it won't hang down only 6 inch deep,, really takes from rear leaf spring integrity to move the rear cross member back that much,, will give you deflect and wheel hop.
We just cut the tank down and put a back cross member in and it worked and a flexible strap under the tank , there’s room on the frame rails to reset a nut for the deck normal hight
I really like your build, and following along, even though I don't always agree with everything you're doing. First, why are you moving the fuel tank out from behind the front seat and putting it at the rear of the truck? You can easily make a return line to the cab tank for injection by making a tubing insert with a return line connector on it, and fit it between the filler hose and the gas tank, using the filler hose and clamps to do it. Consider this....the tank being at the rear, is now subject to common garden variety rear-enders which could become catastrophic. I drove my 67' F-100 for 600,000k miles and never had a problem with the gas tank behind the seat. If you were in a wreck that could cause the cab tank to rupture...I doubt you would have to worry about it. My opinion is, your tank is a little low for my liking. My truck, until I shorten it, is a long bed with a factory 25 gallon aux fuel tank between the frame, behind the cab. The factory provided a metal skid plate for the tank. I'd think about doing the same on yours. To bring some strength back to the rear of your frame, weld in the inside of the frame, so they won't be seen... "fish plates," with holes inside of the plates for welds outside and inside the plates . You're doing great though, and you have strong problem solving skills. I'm following along with you, keep it up. :)
Was just about to comment please paint the frame since you’ve put so much into and it was just done halfway through 😂lol love the videos badass truck !
Can I ask what size of tires are you running? Brand, width and offset of wheel? Bolt pattern? I bought some P315/35/R20 Tires but I am having a tough time finding 10.5" wide wheels. Thanks
Awsome setup im literally doing the same build on my 68 bump. I just ordered the explorer 8.8. With those +15 offset rear wheels how much space do you have to the rear fender? Love the setup, but im looking for a deeper dish look.
You can buy a Mustang tank that is baffled and set up for fuel ejection, but they are pricey. When I converted my mustang to fuel ejection I used a stock tank and the drain for the fuel return. I haven't has any problems with it not being baffled, but I don't let it get very low on fuel just in case.
Yeah I looked at some custom type EFI tanks, but you're right.. the cost is high. I'm super concerned about the thing starving for fuel, I really don't know why I have that fear, but I do. Nice to hear from someone with real experience, Thanks!
A bronco 2 tank might of been a good choice for rear and fitment plus efi. But i get that mustang tanks are cheap easy to find and work. I still miss that sweet 390 you built!
I wish I would have come across the bronco 2 tank idea when I was doing my research. It seemed like everyone was doing the mustang. I miss that 390 too, that was a fun driving motor, it was simple but made for a fun cruiser.
Awesome build, those u bolts for the bed… I can’t stand them, after a couple years they don’t wanna come off, the nut breaks free from the clip and just spins, anti seize the bolts and nuts. I live in Michigan as a collision tech, I’ve seen brand new trucks have issues trying to remove the bed.
Looking awesome. I have a 67 f100 (was my grandpa's) that needs a motor and I am just getting real anxious to start working on it. I have an 85 F150 with the 5.8 4V HO motor and debating on using it as a donor but would rather rebuild the original 352. Time will tell I suppose.
I would rebuild that 352 into a 390, it will look the same on the outside.. hell you can run the 352 stickers on it, so the purists don't wear you out about it haha. That would be the quickest way to go and make great power
Instead of square tubing, use 3/8 or 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 flat stock . Weld right in frame on sides bolt in on rear. It’ll strengthen sides where material was cut out
Thanks, I was going to get a gas door from a junkyard car, and tack weld it under the bed, so you wouldn't see a hinge. Then it would work like a gas door on every other car... we'll see if I can figure that out haha
On the fuel tank I think I would have welded a bar in front and in back of the tank and took a measurement for tank straps and pulled the tank to the bottom side of the frame and if you want you could put straps on the bottom as well
I have had two trucks that the tank was mounted low like that and it ended bad for both. Unless your going with a skid plate, figure on a road hazard and hole in tank. Its your truck so do what you want but mine was even with the rear end center section and got hole in it
Awesome truck coming along, but should have kept the 390 in it. I just like keeping all Ford powerplant in this ford truck. My opinion, but I love this trucks looks👍👍
How flimsy is the gas tank? I'm thinking of welding shut the fuel neck and welding the neck on one of the rear corners to fab up a fuel door behind the tail light
I did my fuel fill behind the driver side tail light used a c10 gas tank door hinge, on the 64 i mounted the switch with in the tail gate post. Hopefully shutting the tailgate won't trip it! Lol but its close if it does.
On the 61 to 66 there's a space between the inside bed and quarter panel. So it not visible at all from the bed, it worked out pretty cool. Im also using a push through cap instead of the one in the video. But kudos to you on your truck lot of work I just mini tubbed mine for bigger tires. Your video on the rear axel inspired me👍 But I chose to narrow my 8.8 useing mustang axles that will take 4.5 off each side. I had put to much into my crown vic to ditch it! But now it can handle 14" wide with an in. Clearance inside and out! Keep up the great work and video's. Thx and Happy Thanksgiving!

The Ranger bed bolts are better I find they are deeper in the torq bit area I also took your idea but made the rear support able to remove if you had to servive the tank I keep Ed my ford all ford I got a coyote motor out of a 2016 no LS for me
What is the measurements of the 70 mustang tank I'm building a 66 ford pickup,,, l used a 66 mustang tank in my 45 dodge worked perfectly,, but there to wide for the 66 ford
Any clue what the measurement is from outside of each wheel spacer? What made you go with spacers and a + offset, as opposed to just a negative offset with a deeper dish? Was it because of availability of the wheels you liked? Really appreciate the videos man, I used a lot of your guidance for my CV swap, and the 4 link is up next. Quality work man.
I added a 2" spacer to each side. (I don't remember the explorer 8.8 width, but just add 4 inches to that) Finding a catalog order wheel with that much neg. offset is difficult. I had to push those wheels out to get them to fit between the wheel wells of the bed. Thats the only reason it has the spacers. Awesome to see you guys using these videos, hope this helps!
Nice work, very methodical. My question, why did you keep those 5th wheel mounts? Would have been the first thing to test that plasma on. And do you trust the wheel spacers to take power?
The truck is turning out awesome!!! I've been following you for a while now and I also I'm in the process of building my 73 f100. It also has the crown vic suspension and I'm putting in a 6.0 too. My ? Is after I installed the suspension I noticed that i have a bigger wheel gap towards the door I followed ur every step and I don't know how it ended up like this, what do you think happened or what I'm I doing wrong??
Thats how most guys install the CV front end, it bumps that front wheel center line forward 3/4" or something. Mine is the same as yours, the idea is that it actually sits more centered in the wheel-well than the factory suspension did. That wheel-well line isn't really symmetrical with that more open 'swoop' towards the back. Sounds like you're right on track!
For anyone else doing this, tanks inc has a 22 gal cougar tank that you can get set up for their in tank electric pump. A 1X1 TUBE frame will allow you mount the tank underneath the frame. Also despite what it seems, you don't have to put an LS in your ford. I would give you thumbs down for it, but the video was great. 👍
Hey hope all is well. I could not help but noticing your wheels on this gas tank relocation video. I have a 74 long bed and planning to follow your same build one day. For now though, can you please help me with some of your expertise. I'm looking for wheels & would like to go with 17's. But with the 5x5.5 bolt pattern, I'm really limited. Is there a modification or simple part replacement that you can share to convert to a 5x4.5 or a 5x5 bolt pattern. I found some information about having a machine shop redrill the axles & rotors. But then I have the bore hole size to contend with. Are there rotors from another Ford I can use to change/ convert to? Can you also share the wheel & tire specifications when your truck was running 15's. I may just stay with the 15's, if I run into a dead end with going the 17 route. Thank you so much for your time and help with this.
Thats done all the time. No need to drill axles or anything. Some wheel spacer / adapters are all you need to change from 5x5.5 to 5x4.5. Check out these on amazon: amzn.to/2J80Bje My wheels are 19" front and rear. ESR CS11 - Hope this helps and makes things a little easier!
Oh the 15's I had on there were running a 235/75/15. I took the15 inch wheels off a full size dodge van. They use the 5x5.5 and are 6.5" wide, and generally come with that 235/75/15 tire. So it gives you a wider wheel, and they're cheap!

@@330_garage3 yea it is 3/4" more I must be in the ball game then!! Thanks for the reply!!
Went from a rusted frame to a fresh coat of black on it what did you use to paint it?
What’s the size of tire your running on the back
Hey man! Currently doing the ls swap in my f100. I have one question and it’s what rear differential do I use for the swap? One that fits in the rear?
John Madden truck builder..(because of the marker) lol
Should have went with the Tanks Inc tank. That’s what I am using on my 63 Falcon.
Yeah, I was trying to do this without spending a ton of money.... but that just translated into more time and fabrication...
Looks awesome whats the wheels? Are they the 19x9.5s+15s in the rear? Or did you go wider
ESR CS11 they are 19x9.5 in the front and 19x10.5 in the rear (both are +15) running 315s in the rear. Thanks!
@@330_garage3 awesome set up! I was trying to see what i wanted to do for the rear, i think the sr01 10.5's are a bit too wide for the mustang irs
so if you need to service your fuel pump, do you have to remove the bed?
What backspacing on the rear wheels, and are you still using a wheel spacers
just curious, what tires do you have on front and rear; trying to decide what to do on my 66 f100. to give more aggressive stance. thanks
Nice work and looking good! I see the info on the wheels but what size tires are you running?
I'll update the description, I'm sure this question will come up again. Fronts are 275/35r19 rears are 305/35r19
@@330_garage3 Thanks!
@@330_garage3 Did you have to cut the bed to put those tires in the back?
Hi there, what size wheels and tires are you running. I gone have the same set up.
You can actually use a early 70s Maverick gas tank slides in
Thats a cool suggestion - hopefully other guys read the comments section here! Thanks
What off set are your wheels? And how big of a wheel spacers are you using?
What's the size, offset and backspacing on the wheels?
go over what wheels you used and any problem finding them
I put that info in the video details section, no issues finding wheels in those sizes, there are a lot of choices
Truck looks awsome coming along nicely, you mind me asking what are the wheel specs looks like 18s how wide and the offset
I'm runing the same explorer dif with crown vic suspension
I have a 5.3l Lt gen v 69 f100 shorbed
I posted them in the video details section. They're 19x10.5 and 19x9.5
How thick is the metal for the 1x1 box tubing ? Or does it matter ?
I think that steel was 15ga or 16ga wall thickness. Its not holding a ton of weight, so no need to go much thicker than that.
Check out these on amazon: amzn.to/2J80Bje
My wheels are 19" front and rear.
Got it!
