  • No copyright infringement intended. The Vandellas kept the Motown money rolling in with their slew of hits. I extended this with authentic Funk Brothers backing.

    OMG, that drum breakdown with the echo effect in the beginning and toward the end ! Such ear candy... typical of Motown to add such creative dynamics to their music. Maybe no one agrees with me, but I have always thought that Martha Reeves in her prime was the most exciting and dynamic of the female Motown singers. Her vocal on "Heat Wave" absolutely slays. Just my opinion, but if Richard Perry had let her really tear loose on her solo album instead of watering her natural soul down with too many bland songs aimed at the broader "pop" audience, she probably could've gotten a Grammy.

    Dig the hand claps in the background.
    Ingenious!!
    Initially, nobody but MOTOWN was doing hand claps👏 along with the musical instruments playing in the background.
    Hand claps and finger snaps in the background of some of Motown's record recordings were dope.

    It seems that Holland-Dozier-Holland and The Funk Brothers let Martha and The Vandellas swing...they rock harder on their songs than any other female Motown group they wrote and played for! Love the "shuffle" 4/4 beat on this song...go, Benny Benjamin!

    • @galetinm
      @galetinm 3 роки тому +4

      Richard "Pistol" Allen played the shuffle here. Not Benny Benjamin. Heatwave too. He was their shuffle man.

    • @kevingavigan7883
      @kevingavigan7883 Рік тому

      There are conflicting reports as to whether it's Benny Benjamin or Richard "Pistol" Allen playing the drums on this track. Wikipedia says it's Benny, but Pistol claimed to have been the drummer on here. Martha Reeves has also stated in various interviews that Pistol was the drummer, while also mentioning Earl Van Dyke on piano, Robert White and Eddie Willis on guitar, James Jamerson on bass, Jack Ashford on tambourine, and Mike Terry on baritone sax. If Pistol said that he was the drummer (not to mention Martha Reeves also stating that in various interviews), then it was Pistol (not Benny) on the drums. Moreover, *these* people were *there*, whoever wrote the song's Wikipedia article was/were *not* there, plus it *sounds* like Pistol's drumming, and he was also the drummer on another Martha Reeves/Vandellas hit, "Heatwave", as well as The Supremes "Baby Love" and Marvin Gaye "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)". Regards.

      Rick hi I'm matt, and I've played music most my life. I listen to and play very different types of music. In a few bands I've played in have been punk rock. Now there's a tenant in the philosophy of punk rock (for some not all) that part of being with it, being hip or cool was that you dont care. You dont care bout anything and that's cool. Except not to me. I like any and all genre of music but the 1 rule to me is what you wrote, thank you. Have (at least decent) instrument playing , write a decent melody and lyrics, and sing well and clear. It's amazing how so much music doesn't do this or handle this and many bands/musicians can't handle this. They write songs with lil to no clear or strong melody. Who'd wanna listen to that? Or sing so poorly or play so poorly. These are the basics and you'd think everyone could know or identify with them right? Anyway your comment was quick and simple but I liked it as I thought it was perfect. Cheers bro !

    I think Bob Dylan shared something about singing on the the liner notes Hwy66
    about breathing--these girls were living and breathing at the top of their lungs

    Mosogotum handles these songs so well. It almost seems like Moso
    created the songs 🎵 songs. The
    extension are lovely...lovely to listen to . I'm glad Moso took a
    likeing to Motowm. I hear things
    in a different way with this work!

    Classic GOODNESS! One of the best to come out of Motown. This very good extended version makes what was already terrific even more fantastic; if that's possible. Very nice work and a great post mosogotam.

      Hey man anyone who loves this music is gittin old. But we both are still kicking it so there's that! Matter of fact , today's the 5 yrs anniversary of having a massive heart attack and dying. Had zero vital signs. No breathing, no heartbeat, I was dead as much as anyone can be dead and still regain life and being conscious. I was lucky because I was at the gym and working out right next to me was a nurse and a cop. The cop basically saved my life. The type heart attack I had (not making it up either) is called "the widow maker"! Dr said "ehh another 60 seconds in your state and you wouldn't of come back" . Said I was lucky I wasn't shoveling snow or doing activities you do alone. Anyway, yeah were gettin old but we still alivin! Here's to life ! Cheers brother, keep diggin them groovey groovey tunes bro.

    there were several outstanding groups and individuals under the Motown label- Martha and the Vandellas were high octane dance songs - they were my favorite of that era.

      I listened to this stuff (and others) as a kid growing up and later. When I was in high school and my peers were listening to Tom petty and Leonard skynyrd I was listening to this. I mean that stuff is ok but to compare it to motown is laughable. Who wins on rythm? Who wins on melody? Who wins on harmony and just general musical ability? Gimme a break! But I guess every generation has music they thinks best. But I listened to it all and to me I never went with the crowd and liked southern rock and Bob Dylan and all other stuff nearly as much as motown or sun records.

    Motown at its best !! What a fantastic beat this song had. Those were the days when Detroit rocked, How sad to see what became of that great city today. Every year I go to the Dual in Detroit races and feel so sad when I visit the Hitsville museum. It's a shame.
