- EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE PARISH #157: DRIFFIELD
Driffield - “Stubbly Open Land”
With not many to go now in the East Riding, today we come to one of the three remaining towns. This is Driffield, located off the A614 between Goole and Bridlington.
Historic industry played a massive role in Driffield’s growth. This was the terminus of the Driffield Navigation, the 14 and a half mile long canal which linked the town to the river Hull.
In this video we’ll discuss Driffield Castle and the Great Flood which had a massive impact. We’ll also meet Benjamin Fawcett, the man who the local Wetherspoons pub is named after. And then there’s the village of Little Driffield - the burial place of an ancient King.
There’s lots here, lets go!

Excellent. A little England.
Nice to see our bus on the 530 Town Service in your opening sequence :)
i am writing a story to be published online at some point, taking place at a university in the uk in the early 2000s. planning on including a student from driffield, so i’m very thankful for this video :)
Yes you are correct regarding the building you said looked like it was once a school opposite the garden of remembrance. I used to go to school here around the late 70s the school was called St Francis school and it moved from here to Nafferton whilst I was there. It was good at the Driffield location because we used to have our lunch at the Bell Hotel. 😀
Driffield agricultural show and the Steam fair are well worth a visit.
Driff looks good on camera. If I didn't already live here I would move here! When the army and air force had barracks outside the town Saturday nights in the many pubs used to be, how shall we say, lively.
Such an epic episode. I think u covered everything, maybe apart from the fire station on Bridlington Road between the junior & secondary schools. Great Driffield Rovers are the 2nd team in East Riding County League. Great Driffield AFC (without name Rovers) play in Humber Premier League with next season being only their 3rd ever in entire history. King's Mill & Little Driffield are two perfect places to visit away from the hustle and bustle of town.
Very informative 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant, great coverage Andy. Driff is the place I've spent most years living in so I kind of miss it. The Old Factory which is flats, I think used to be Dewhursts factory when I first lived there. I hope you went to the best coffee shop in the Wolds, Kinship Coffee :) You were stood across the road from it. It's a great area to live in.
Yeah I remember reading about Dewhurst but I couldnt pin down if that was their building
