Been playing this tune on my Gretsch for years and years, this, and Turkey on a String, using "open tuning" of course. Every time I play it, I promise myself I'll buy me a banjo. Dave has always been my favorite banjoplayer. Why is it that the best always go first? Is it true that Heaven can't wait?
The Best of The Best! RIP Dave Hum!
Wonderful! An old Les Paul 78 was the my first hearing of this tune when I was in my early teens. Great to hear this version. I’m still trying to play it as well as Les.
Gutted that I only heard after coming back from New York in 2004 , to the U.K. that Les was still alive and played every week in a club there. One of the greats ..... and I missed him😕 Consolation of sorts as we managed to get tickets to see Prince at Madison Square Garden when they released more tickets just before the gig. ☔️☔️
Well Dave you left us with the best God bless

Hi Dave,
Yet another great video from you. Have you ever thought of making a dvd to sell. One man and his banjo - it would be a definite hit.
I have the TAB for this, but can you please tell me - when you slide from 4th to 7th&8th, (28 seconds in), is this part then played as harmonics?
As usual, many thanks in advance, and I hope you are well.
Enjoyed listening....but I was hoping for some chickens in the background :P
"ahhh, the bumpus hounds! da da da dut da daaaa"
lol, if you dont get it, then nevermind. Great playing btw.
I can hear the chickens clucking and pecking corn.
