The Crawdad Song - The Petersens (LIVE)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- We grew up watching the Andy Griffith Show and when we were coming up with songs for the new album, we knew we had to choose one from Andy's front porch. Hope you enjoy this Americana classic, "The Crawdad Song"!
Fun fact, we use this song as a change of pace in the middle of our 90-minute Branson show and it replaced our original, The Ring Song • The Ring Song - The Pe... , that we played for many years.

►LYRICS - The Crawdad Song
You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
We'll go fishin' in the crawdad hole*
Honey, baby mine
Sell your crawdads three for a dime, honey
Sell your crawdads three for a dime, babe
Sell your crawdads three for a dime
Your crawdads ain't good as mine
Honey, baby mine
Hurry up, you slept too late, honey
Hurry up, you slept too late, babe
Hurry up babe, you slept too late
Crawdad man done passed your gate
Honey, baby mine
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry, honey?
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry, babe?
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry
Sit on the bank, watch crawdads die?
Honey, babe of mine
I heard the duck say to the drake*, honey
I heard the duck say to the drake, babe
I heard the duck say to the drake
There ain't no crawdads in this lake
Honey, babe of mine
So you get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
We'll go fishin' in the crawdad hole, honey
Baby honey, baby honey
Babe of mine

@@Liz.Newton Thanks a lot Liz.
@@Liz.Newton Thanks Liz. A song about crayfish fishing is very interesting and funny! 🦐🦞
Liz, the work you do for the group is awesome, great info value added material, thanks much.
As always, Thanks, Liz!
Liz is my hero! 😊
Wow, this rendition brings back memories of my childhood for this near 70-year old Florida boy singing this song around the campground with the family and friends. Well done!
My dad, who came out of Appalachia, used to sing this to me when I was a wee sprout. He died when I was 10. I'm 64 now, and I never had heard it anywhere else before till now. Blessings that this popped up in my feed today.
What a wonderful story.
My relatives all sang this one. With guitar.
Sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my dad at 10 as well. I am 66 now. We sang this as kids, with mom and grandma.
Harry Belafonte recorded a jazz-infused version of this song in the early 60s, but that's the only other version I'd heard until now. My parents also sang this to my brothers and sister and me when we were very young. 😊
Bless your Dad my friend!
Never has there been a better version of this classic. ❤🔥
Our Drill Sergeant used sing this song to us while road marching at Fort Benning Ga. We would repeat it back to him. We were inspired to carry on and not fall out of the march.
Basic training 1975 Fort Ord, CA. Same thing. At 18, I we ran to this song. Well, some others as well, but this one we could actually sing in front of polite folk.
Similar experience at Ft. Knox 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
We marched to it at Ft. Dix as well in 1971
There is nothing I like more than when these 3 ladies sing together like this.
This right there. THIS is pure true Americana. A song about a simple life, sung by beautiful voices in the woods by a fire, played on iconic American instruments.
Three talented, beautiful young women, singing and having fun. The harmonies, as always, are just extraordinary. What could be better?
Having Matt, Emmett and Mom in this rendition.
Not the usual video quality, still good rendition
What could be better?! If you don't know, I sure can't tell ya.
@@hankluvsdagny 180 people seem to agree with me
Early Americana at its finest! My dad, may he Rest In Peace in the Lord, used to sing this a lot. This precious trio of women with their voices raised has no equal! May the Lord bless you and keep you!
I love the support of this family. When anyone else has a little solo, Ellen always look over at them with pride on her face. Everyone is so talented and just overall wonderful. We need more people like them in the world!
Perfect voices, harmonies, love , and country culture. Love their music. I' m a fan , french speaking guy, from Switzerland, Europe, the old world.
My father was swiss, my mother was german.
I live in the Vaud county. There are 26 counties in Switzerland. Lausanne is the main city in my county.
Hope the Petersens love getting letters from their friends outside the USA...
Amen!
Amen 🙏
Make them. We're running terribly low
i bet they all hate each other off camera haha jk
Each sister has a lovely voice but combine the three and it's just magic.
Was feeling down. Now I can't stop smiling. Three beautiful ladies picking and singing. Thank you
Lovely, graceful, elegant, sunny, I cannot find better words to compliment these fine young ladies. Thank you for your dedication to music
Oh my gosh, all these years and I've finally found the name of the song. Loved this performance. Great job.
Recently, I've been going through the process of changing my social media status from "married" to "widower." But I thought it important to let you know of the importance and impact of your videos. Of how you have given me a 3:48 minute heart-break from the 24/7 heart-ache. And this happens for each video I watch. So please pass on my gratitude to the rest of the family, and thank y'all from me'all❤

Quite an amazement to watch the three sisters sing their way to the crawdad hole and harmonize so beautifully. Their joy to sing and play together is infectious. Just great !
Three of the most precious sweetest ladies ever.
Im 68 from Blue Ridge Mountains. i haven't heard this song since my grandpa died when I was a kid. Good family song thanks for the memories
Saw y'all in Branson this Tuesday (10/11/2022). It was the best show that I've ever seen, and I've seen the best (George Strait, Johnny Cash, Don Williams, etc.).
My only suggestion is; don't change a thing.
You are a great blessing to us.
Thank you ladies that was fun, the outdoor setting the outfits the hair all fit perfectly for this song. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
They're excellent
I use to play that song when I was 12 years old and I still play it at 77 Years old. Thanks 🙏🏻
Oh my goodness, these girls sure brought back some happy time memories. My family played instruments and sang with mama all the time when we were kids. They do this song wonderfully! Thanks for the smiles, ladies!
Great song. Always liked that performance on Andy Griffith. Loved that little bit of “Arkansas Traveler” at the end. Can’t wait to see everybody at the Palooza next week!
now it stuck in my head for the day
If I were listening to them live, I could listen to these ladies for hours. Wouldn't it be fun to know them personally and hang out with this family? Great musicians, great harmony singing with pleasing voices, and they are so down-to-earth. Well done, I say!
What a refreshing lovely group. They light up whatever place they they may be.
Outstanding performance. Beautiful harmony.
I always wish I grew up country. I love these ladies, they play spectacular.❤🎵🎶🎻
Thank you!
@@ThePetersens 👍🏼😘
as a side note, it's wonderful how a fiddle, a banjo and a mandolin can so beautifully sound together.
So true 😊
I now listen to this song a couple of times a week. It always puts a smile on my face!
Nice bit of mode shift-type activity in the middle there... complete with a 2ndary dominant. Brilliant work -- not surprising in the least.
That minor shift was really interesting! I loved it!
Like a breath of fresh air
I love this song! Especially Andy Griffith singing it. God Bless! - Texas
Lovely chicks with angel voices. Can't stop listening.❤
I remember Andy and Opie singing this on The Andy Griffith Show years ago. Simpler times. Wonderful job ladies.❤❤❤

Just what I needed this morning! God given talent. Praise God! Excellent musicians! Beautiful voices that compliment each other! BLUEGRASS! And a good laugh at the end!!! Thank you ladies. God bless.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'd never heard anyone sing this song except my late mother.
Nothing today can match the sheer elegance musicality and class of these performances. That was lovely !
It's wonderful to see such talented young ladies keeping this style of music alive. It gives me a lot of hope for the future.
we marched soo many miles to this song
Always sang this at 4 h camp and 20 years later I’m still singing it.

I remember listening to this amazing song on the Andy Griffith Show!!!!!! I watched that show all the time!!!!!! I absolutely enjoyed your version immensely and I thank you dearly for this captivating rendition 😊
The three young girls sing and play very well. The brisk song sounds very good. Thank you very much!

Best rendition of this song I think I've ever heard. Love that little excursion into the minor chord progression!
Great job. Wonderful music and a nice setting.

Love your talent and music, I live in Buffalo, MO. and work at BassPro base camp in Springfield, MO. The first time I seen and heard your music was about 3 yrs. ago at the company Christmas party and have enjoyed your music ever since, keep up the wonderful talents that you do. God bless you all.
My dad used to sing this to me as a kid! He passed away in 2008. This song reminds me of him. Thank you!
Yes!!! Something had definitely been missing lately. Now I know what it was. What a treat to have the three of you not only providing the great harmony we know we will get from you, but to have your fabulous playing as well. Of course we love the whole band, but the three of you was just what this tune needed. You can't beat three beautiful women playing a magnificent version of a great old tune. Y'all truly are so good at what you do. Please Miss, we'd like some more. Whenever you get around to it of course. Thanks ladies!
Beautiful! Thank you for making my day.🙂
I (will) never get bored or/and tired of listening to your singing.
You did a marvelous job.
If everyone threw their phones in the fire and listened to this type of music the world could be a wonderful place...
Wow.. just WOW.....Thanks again for sharing you music with all of us !
Fantastic key change in the middle of the song! Amazing harmonies!!
Technically it is not a "key change", but a tonal modulation from the major key, in this case the D major, to the relative minor key, the B minor. Undoubtedly a brilliant intuition!
Instrumentally and vocally superb! The blend of your three voices gave me the best kind of chills ever!
Country music don't get much better than this harmonical sound. thanks, it's a real treat to my senses. john.
"Ya gals are just dandy" , is what I believe Americans might say about this trio of talented and entertaining ladies. I really enjoyed this "ol timey" style. I listen to your songs over and over. God bless you from South Africa.
Impossibly stellar talent on display here. And infectious good cheer.
Loved it! The, as always unexpected minor key shift was spectacular!, and then the Arkansas Traveler encore - righteous stuff there. Y'all always amaze!
Just catching up on some music videos I haven't watched. Wow! This song really brought back some memories. My dad sang to us kids when we were little. I never saw him much. He traveled mostly playing music when I was young. I never heard that song performed again by anyone else until now. Thank you for making my day!
Well that was beautiful brilliant singing and playing. This is why I love bluegrass.
Holy......! I've marched to this cadence for many miles. I had no idea this was a song or where it was originally from until now. WOW! Awesome memories!
Did you all say the words of the song too when marching?
Just BRILLIANT. It's amusing, jolly and perfectly performed. You three are like a breath of fresh air in this world. THANK YOU from England.
All some,, great job,, love it , due more old songs, you girls are very good thanks for the show take care,
This brought tears to my eyes!!!! I can close my eyes and hear Andy singing along.
My grandpa sang this song with his guitar when I was growing up. All my uncles knew how to play instruments and they’d sit acting the table in the kitchen playing and singing every Sunday after church. I have great memories connected with this song!
Always loved this song
What absolutely lovely and talented young ladies. That was fun. thanks!

These ladies sound great both vocally and as musicians. Well done girls.👍👍🇨🇦
Grazie di esser tornati ragazzi. Era da un po' che aspettavamo. Questa volta solo le ragazze, ma quanta bravura. Quanta armonia e quanta bellezza.
Ciao Giandomenico. È bello leggere ogni tanto un bel commento in italiano. 👍
Just tuned into UA-cam and saw how well this unassuming little country song is doing on the Net. The harmony is good working out an excellent arrangement. Good job, Katie. The minor key interlude adds just that touch of complexity to the pleasing simplicity. You have a winner here.
Just totally blessed my heart. Brings back so many memories from when I was younger and my sisters and I would get together and sing and harmonize together.❤
Oh my, I love this!! I go around humming and singing The Crawdad song now. I don't get all the words right, but it sure is fun. 😊
They all can play and sing like a dream on a good nites sleep! Proud to have listened to this video!
Beautiful songs Thank you for each and everyone, to get to know you're beautiful country. I look at your UA-cam'S God Bless you.
