The Crawdad Song - The Petersens (LIVE)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2022
- We grew up watching the Andy Griffith Show and when we were coming up with songs for the new album, we knew we had to choose one from Andy's front porch. Hope you enjoy this Americana classic, "The Crawdad Song"!
Fun fact, we use this song as a change of pace in the middle of our 90-minute Branson show and it replaced our original, The Ring Song • The Ring Song - The Pe... , that we played for many years.

►LYRICS - The Crawdad Song
You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
We'll go fishin' in the crawdad hole*
Honey, baby mine
Sell your crawdads three for a dime, honey
Sell your crawdads three for a dime, babe
Sell your crawdads three for a dime
Your crawdads ain't good as mine
Honey, baby mine
Hurry up, you slept too late, honey
Hurry up, you slept too late, babe
Hurry up babe, you slept too late
Crawdad man done passed your gate
Honey, baby mine
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry, honey?
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry, babe?
What are ya gonna do when the lake goes dry
Sit on the bank, watch crawdads die?
Honey, babe of mine
I heard the duck say to the drake*, honey
I heard the duck say to the drake, babe
I heard the duck say to the drake
There ain't no crawdads in this lake
Honey, babe of mine
So you get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
We'll go fishin' in the crawdad hole, honey
Baby honey, baby honey
Babe of mine
* Crawdad = US slang for a freshwater crayfish, like a little lobster. They're also known as mud bugs as they dig holes in the mud near lakes and streams.

@@Liz.Newton Thanks a lot Liz.
@@Liz.Newton Thanks Liz. A song about crayfish fishing is very interesting and funny! 🦐🦞
Liz, the work you do for the group is awesome, great info value added material, thanks much.
As always, Thanks, Liz!
Liz is my hero! 😊
Our Drill Sergeant used sing this song to us while road marching at Fort Benning Ga. We would repeat it back to him. We were inspired to carry on and not fall out of the march.
This right there. THIS is pure true Americana. A song about a simple life, sung by beautiful voices in the woods by a fire, played on iconic American instruments.
Quite an amazement to watch the three sisters sing their way to the crawdad hole and harmonize so beautifully. Their joy to sing and play together is infectious. Just great !
This is what happens when you don't give your kid an iPad
Or a TV. Hehe
😂😂😂
😂
Or indoor plumbing
My dad, who came out of Appalachia, used to sing this to me when I was a wee sprout. He died when I was 10. I'm 64 now, and I never had heard it anywhere else before till now. Blessings that this popped up in my feed today.
What a wonderful story.
My relatives all sang this one. With guitar.
Sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my dad at 10 as well. I am 66 now. We sang this as kids, with mom and grandma.
Harry Belafonte recorded a jazz-infused version of this song in the early 60s, but that's the only other version I'd heard until now. My parents also sang this to my brothers and sister and me when we were very young. 😊
Never has there been a better version of this classic. ❤🔥
Wow, this rendition brings back memories of my childhood for this near 70-year old Florida boy singing this song around the campground with the family and friends. Well done!
Recently, I've been going through the process of changing my social media status from "married" to "widower." But I thought it important to let you know of the importance and impact of your videos. Of how you have given me a 3:48 minute heart-break from the 24/7 heart-ache. And this happens for each video I watch. So please pass on my gratitude to the rest of the family, and thank y'all from me'all❤

Three talented, beautiful young women, singing and having fun. The harmonies, as always, are just extraordinary. What could be better?
Having Matt, Emmett and Mom in this rendition.
Not the usual video quality, still good rendition
Yes I knew it Angels do hang out around a campfire singing classic songs!!!!!!❤
Oh my gosh, all these years and I've finally found the name of the song. Loved this performance. Great job.
Early Americana at its finest! My dad, may he Rest In Peace in the Lord, used to sing this a lot. This precious trio of women with their voices raised has no equal! May the Lord bless you and keep you!
There is nothing I like more than when these 3 ladies sing together like this.
I use to play that song when I was 12 years old and I still play it at 77 Years old. Thanks 🙏🏻
Like a breath of fresh air
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'd never heard anyone sing this song except my late mother.
That minor shift was really interesting! I loved it!
Lovely, graceful, elegant, sunny, I cannot find better words to compliment these fine young ladies. Thank you for your dedication to music
Oh my goodness, these girls sure brought back some happy time memories. My family played instruments and sang with mama all the time when we were kids. They do this song wonderfully! Thanks for the smiles, ladies!
Each sister has a lovely voice but combine the three and it's just magic.
I love the support of this family. When anyone else has a little solo, Ellen always look over at them with pride on her face. Everyone is so talented and just overall wonderful. We need more people like them in the world!
Perfect voices, harmonies, love , and country culture. Love their music. I' m a fan , french speaking guy, from Switzerland, Europe, the old world.
My father was swiss, my mother was german.
I live in the Vaud county. There are 26 counties in Switzerland. Lausanne is the main city in my county.
Hope the Petersens love getting letters from their friends outside the USA...
Amen!
Amen 🙏
Make them. We're running terribly low
i bet they all hate each other off camera haha jk
I watched these girls grow up, beautiful, talented, smart and kind.
In this world you all are so refreshing
In Australia this was recorded as the Crayfish song.Always one of my favourites. The late Gary Shearston recorded this. I have the single here at home."You get a line and I'll get a pole and we'll go down to that crayfish hole." In Australia there are about 4 species of freshwater crayfish. Some are called "Yabbies" some are "Marron" some are "Murray River Crayish or Lobster"
Katie is definitely dressed for the song 🙂👏
Saw y'all in Branson this Tuesday (10/11/2022). It was the best show that I've ever seen, and I've seen the best (George Strait, Johnny Cash, Don Williams, etc.).
My only suggestion is; don't change a thing.
You are a great blessing to us.
Was feeling down. Now I can't stop smiling. Three beautiful ladies picking and singing. Thank you
My dad used to sing this to me as a kid! He passed away in 2008. This song reminds me of him. Thank you!
"Ya gals are just dandy" , is what I believe Americans might say about this trio of talented and entertaining ladies. I really enjoyed this "ol timey" style. I listen to your songs over and over. God bless you from South Africa.
They all can play and sing like a dream on a good nites sleep! Proud to have listened to this video!
My grandpa sang this song with his guitar when I was growing up. All my uncles knew how to play instruments and they’d sit acting the table in the kitchen playing and singing every Sunday after church. I have great memories connected with this song!
Holy......! I've marched to this cadence for many miles. I had no idea this was a song or where it was originally from until now. WOW! Awesome memories!
Did you all say the words of the song too when marching?
That key change is awesome!
It's amazing what you can do, with just these instruments and 3 voices. No bass, no percussion, but it carries the beat so well.
I sent this to an old cowboy friend of mine down in South Texas who loved The Andy Griffith show and this song. He said this was as follows and I quote "sweeter than tater pie". No further elaboration needed.
When I'm feeling down, the Petersens are my antidepressant!
as a side note, it's wonderful how a fiddle, a banjo and a mandolin can so beautifully sound together.
พวกคุณเกิดมาเพื่อสิ่งนี้
ขอบคุณที่โลกเรายังมีเสียงดนตรี
ชื่นชมพวกคุณตลอดมา
I played this for a class of 1st grade children and they loved it. The Petersens are angels.
Such a pleasure seeing them live last week. If you haven't made a trip to Branson, I highly encourage it!
I love this old timey sound! A mandolin, fiddle, and banjo? Oh yes!!!!
If I were listening to them live, I could listen to these ladies for hours. Wouldn't it be fun to know them personally and hang out with this family? Great musicians, great harmony singing with pleasing voices, and they are so down-to-earth. Well done, I say!
Three lovely ladies sitting around a campfire in the summer forest, singing and playing with such joy and perfection. This song is so catchy; it makes me think of my childhood days when I was always catching crawdads in the stream behind our house. ♥️
Fun note: the tune they play at the end is called "Arkansas Traveler." 😊
Thank you ladies that was fun, the outdoor setting the outfits the hair all fit perfectly for this song. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS. I'M A SOUTH
AFRICAN AND A REGULAR AND AVID LISTENER TO
AMERICAN GOSPEL GROUPS. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR
INSPIRATIONAL SINGING.
Man my grandpa used to sing this all the time (so did Andy Griffith), haven't heard it since I was a kid. Thank you!
Great song. Always liked that performance on Andy Griffith. Loved that little bit of “Arkansas Traveler” at the end. Can’t wait to see everybody at the Palooza next week!
I’ve loved this song most of my 71 years of life!!
lol....imagine being a hunter and running upon such a beautiful scene. lol Great job girls.
Smashing foot tapping tune and brilliantly sung.Ian,Belfast,Northern Ireland.U.K.
When you play music create a magical sensations. Thanks a lot.
now it stuck in my head for the day
The UA-cam algorithm brought me here and I'm so glad it did. You ladies sound absolutely phenomenal and I will definitely be checking out more of your music! Also, props for using music featured on Andy Griffith. I love that show! 🎶❤️🎶
Katie manages to slip an Andy Griffith Show reference into her original "Hey, Grandpa" too! ua-cam.com/video/bVehr80ZVsc/v-deo.html
Excellent vocals! The little boy hiding at the end reminds me of my now 30something son who always stated “ Don’t picture me” when the camera came out 😛
Beautiful songs Thank you for each and everyone, to get to know you're beautiful country. I look at your UA-cam'S God Bless you.
What a refreshing lovely group. They light up whatever place they they may be.
I don’t think I’ve heard this song since I was a kid, and I’m 67. Wonderful!
Three of the most precious sweetest ladies ever.
these girls are amazing. greetings from an admirer from Venezuela... hope to hear more of you all
Wow... The fire, the nature, the song... Man...
Oh my, I love this!! I go around humming and singing The Crawdad song now. I don't get all the words right, but it sure is fun. 😊
Another home run from the Petersen gang. Thank you sharing America's rich musical heritage.
This is impossible to watch without getting a huge smile on my face. Thank you so much for this!
This is just 100% REAL Music! This made my day. Thank You.
I now listen to this song a couple of times a week. It always puts a smile on my face!
Just love this one Remember hearing it when a kids Singing on our front pourch
Love that song. Can still hear my Dad singing it to me 50 years ago !!
The voices of you three meld together so well in harmony and yet seem different when your solo parts arise: The advantage of family roots for all three back to your parents.
Country music don't get much better than this harmonical sound. thanks, it's a real treat to my senses. john.
I remember listening to this amazing song on the Andy Griffith Show!!!!!! I watched that show all the time!!!!!! I absolutely enjoyed your version immensely and I thank you dearly for this captivating rendition 😊
You always walk-up stream, when you go crawdad hunting!! lol My mom taught us this song at an early age, we were a large poor Missouri family of nine, that loved us some crawdads.
Pikin and grinning like my childhood, mighty fine lassies.
This song reminds me of good ole days gone by. You 3 young ladies do this song justice. Well done.
Love your talent and music, I live in Buffalo, MO. and work at BassPro base camp in Springfield, MO. The first time I seen and heard your music was about 3 yrs. ago at the company Christmas party and have enjoyed your music ever since, keep up the wonderful talents that you do. God bless you all.
Nothing like hearing three angels sing. Well done ladies.👏👏👏👏👏
Love it! The young lady in the middle has a particularly beautiful voice.
Kids. What are you going to do. Great old tune best version I’ve ever heard.
Just what I needed this morning! God given talent. Praise God! Excellent musicians! Beautiful voices that compliment each other! BLUEGRASS! And a good laugh at the end!!! Thank you ladies. God bless.
We grew up on both The Andy Griffith show and MacGyver. So this brought back some great memories! :)
WOW, this just came across my youtube after listening to Wagon Wheel, the original, and I can't believe I've never heard of you before. Just amazing, just WOW
Did you know that Katie (fiddle) and Ellen (banjo) actually played a lot of Wagon Wheel while they were in college? They even have a 'special' version where Ellen's husband plays the bagpipes. Not on UA-cam, though.😉
It's wonderful to see such talented young ladies keeping this style of music alive. It gives me a lot of hope for the future.
What a beautiful picture with beautiful music and beautiful girls.
Just catching up on some music videos I haven't watched. Wow! This song really brought back some memories. My dad sang to us kids when we were little. I never saw him much. He traveled mostly playing music when I was young. I never heard that song performed again by anyone else until now. Thank you for making my day!
I wanna go fishing now more than ever! 😄🩷🎣 Love it!
Sisters 3 are just amazing. There is nothing that puts a smile on my face like these gals. BTW i was and still am a huge fan of The Andy Griffith Show. Thank goodness for MeTv and thank goodness for the Petersens
I love this song! Especially Andy Griffith singing it. God Bless! - Texas
Fantastic and unexpected! Atmosphere of a bygone time. Campfire, sounds, impeccable harmonies, dresses and hairstyles for the girls. It is all absolutely impressive! The melodic variation of the fourth verse, with the inclusion of minor chords, is also brilliant. That personalizes your version in a unique and surprising way. Thank you guys! A great return! 🪕🎻❤
Hey Roberto! Yes this video was very well done! I too, enjoyed the variety they added in the final verses! I love how they do that in their music... Especially when the songs have repetitive melodies, like in hymns and other older stuff.
This new album is going to be absolutely amazing I am sure! 👍❤️
@@emmajo4880 Hi Emma. You have hit the mark! Certain hymns and certain traditional songs, while beautiful, tend to be very repetitive. Their genius lies precisely in this, in making small changes that always provide the listener with something different. Even I'm sure the new album will be great, but I don't know if this song is included.
It's great to get our Friday surprise! Hope you are happy and well my friend
@@Roberto-pd8vn thank you! I think it said it would be in the description... I don't know, but I hope it is included! ☺️
@@emmajo4880 Yes, I've seen it now! It is in the description. I didn't know that yet. Thank you. 👍
That unison where your voices converge at 1:37 is pure magic
One of my earliest memories is of my parents singing this song in the kitchen. Thanks for reminding me.
The best rendition of the crawdad song I’ve ever heard!!!! I use to sing this when I was a little boy, but I only knew the 1st and last verse!!! This was absolutely gold!!
Always loved this song
I so love this. I can remember Learning how to play a guitar at age 12 and now I am 75 and I still love that song thanks ladies you all are number 10 in my book.🙏🏻🌹🌹🌹
It's so refreshing to see such talent in these days ? Thank You Ladies !!!!
🥲 My dad's favorite song. 💙
He would sing it in the summer time.
Thank you.
Outstanding performance. Beautiful harmony.
Nothing today can match the sheer elegance musicality and class of these performances. That was lovely !
I (will) never get bored or/and tired of listening to your singing.
You did a marvelous job.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love, love, love ery dang one of em. Thank you ladies.
Something different, and captivating. Liked it, thanks.
