Nice to finally hear actual driving impressions. Having a 5th gen, we like the reliability and basic drivability but would like more power smoothness and fuel economy. The electric steering may take some getting used to, but it seems the other areas are better. We have a Trailhunter on order so hearing how the hybrid drivetrain works will be good. It does seem to be setup for power and not for fuel economy. I guess we will see.
I’ve loved 4Runners and have always wanted one since I was a kid. They’re not super huge on the road and yet, I probably wouldn’t enjoy parking in the city, certain parking lots I know of 😅
Glad to hear it is made in Japan. I am not loving the lack of a v6 and the issues with the other Tnga-f vehicles. Hopefully Toyota has the tnga-f issues sorted out prior to this launch and that it is not super expensive
@8:23, Kirk said with this non-hybrid engine, 4Runner mpg is around 22 to 23 mpg. Officially, the new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser mpg is 23 mpg ( & in real testings in some UA-cam videos, Land Cruiser mpg is significantly lower than 23mpg & on premium fuel). Toyota, you got a problem.
Conservative driving get my average to 18.4 overall on my '22. i never reset it. and i do 75 on the hiway routinely.. it's the back roads driving without lots of traffic lights and a steady 45-50 that gets me there. would not expect same if my mix was hiway and lots of traffic for the other half.
I know it was never going to happen, but just minor tweek to the 4.0, give us a six speed trans for a bit more economy.... It would run forever. The 4.0 tuned responds well, and then of course supercharged is awesome.
Interesting how in America you guys get the 4runner which is based off of the tacoma (we don't get either one) but in other markets we get the Fortuner which is based off the hilux (you guys don't get either one). Why do they have 2 different popular cars in the same exact segment for different markets
I think these will Do better than the American made tundras. I have a 21 tundra And a 24 4runner. Might upgrade the tundra in 2030 and the 4runner in 2035.
Something many buyers if such lose sight of is WHY they are buying. Is it simply South flexing, started??? Buy a "luxury SUV".... But if it's for practical use... The checklist is different. You're not putting bruising it landscaping materials in Lexus or Range Rover.
Love the interior and body design unfortunately Toyota made a big mistake going to the 4 cylinder turbo and hybrid. Bring back the 4 liter V6 then I'll buy one. Nice video 😊
I suspect there are differences in parts suppliers between 4runner built in Japan and tacoma built in Mexico. I'll take a Japan built over Mexico built.
Pro-tip: neither the LC 250 Prado or this new 4Runner are what you want. What you want is an imported diesel Landcruiser like a 76/78/80/100 series (the latest they can be of course for the USA is the 2000 model year). Thank me later!
Funny how you mention that, when in some cases many people have said the Tacoma especially with this powertrain sounds and drives more like a diesel than a regular gas turbo. Although a diesel would be nice to have here, I doubt it would have made a large impact for Toyota on sales.
Yah the quality of the cloth seats isn’t as nice as the 2005 4 runner with the velour fabric. Feel like everything is getting worse and more expensive if you really compare materials.
2015 4Runner Limited owner here , bought new. Those cloth seats in this trim look cheap af. Also you'll need that acoustic glass to drown out the crappy 4 cylinder sounds and harshness compared to the v6.
Kirk, so much respect of helping David!!
Kirk, I will watch multiple 4 runner reviews today. Yours is the first!
Thank you thank you for doing the regular non hybrid. I feel this is the most relevant since it is the model most people will buy.
Great Fill in KIRK!
Very nice video. You and David are definately at the top of my video viewing list for Toyota (and a few others).
KIRK! Lets gooooo!
David, I am sure you will agree Kirk did a fine job. 😁😁
David should give him his tools next time to check paint job quality 😁
I will say I simply loved the Kirk Kreifels partnership, you two are my favorites

Nice review. Having "beefy suspensions and sturdy ride" is, in my opinion, much better than having a soft with a lot of body roll on tight turns.
Those up and down arrow buttons for the back are for unlock/lock and the window operation Kirk. Gotta hold down the buttons to work the window.
Is this coming to Australia
Starting from which 4Runner trim are double pane windows standard?
$50k for manual seats is wild
Don’t look at jeeps 😅
Great review! Is the dash hard plastic like the Tacoma? The pre-production 4runner was soft touch on the dash as well as the top of the door panels.
I’ve loved 4Runners and have always wanted one since I was a kid. They’re not super huge on the road and yet, I probably wouldn’t enjoy parking in the city, certain parking lots I know of 😅
Similar technique, leaving the viewer with the choice of what would fit them best. Great job Kirk. 24:37

Whats up with the silly air dam's toyota started putting on trucks...whats the point in lowering ground clearance for efficiency?

VG overview. I have a 2023 TRD ORP. I'm old school.

i like this body style but don't know about the engine. good or bad
Feel like more models should have been full time AWD, but that would take away sales from the top priced models and the Land Cruiser.
Hybrid iForce MAX : better gas mileage? Or negligible?

If you're going to fill in for David, he's going to have to give you a panel gap measuring thingie. 😂
...I'll take the "japan" edition,if it's built in Tahara i want it 😊❤
I think these will
Do better than the American made tundras.
I have a 21 tundra
And a 24 4runner.
Might upgrade the tundra in 2030 and the 4runner in 2035.
The 4runner that people wanted is in the GX 550.
Nice coverage while David’s on vacation!
David is the homie
Need to check those gaps Kirk and paint quality
Nice looking overall, but that's vinyl wrap on the door frames. Also, paints used on imports are usually soft and thin.
You shocked me 😮 you’re not David 🤣 Hello Kirk 👋 from Canada 🇨🇦
Kirk you did a good video I'm sure David is happy with the video you did good video 📹
Great to see Kirk on David's channel.
Great review Kirk. I trust your reviews.
That blue on the dash looks so tacky! Why not body color match? Is it blue on any color??
why does Toyota love those horrible red seats they put in everything too?
What was Toyota thinking with the blue trim pieces. wooof.
Acoustic glass on 4Runner but not Land Cruiser?👏
Tacoma has to be built in Mexico to avoid the “chicken tax” FYI
Something many buyers if such lose sight of is WHY they are buying. Is it simply South flexing, started??? Buy a "luxury SUV".... But if it's for practical use... The checklist is different.

I was hoping that Toyota would make the electric steering feel heavier in the 4Runner. Not a fan of the touchy steering.
Love the David ft. Kirk crossover.
Love the interior and body design unfortunately Toyota made a big mistake going to the 4 cylinder turbo and hybrid. Bring back the 4 liter V6 then I'll buy one. Nice video 😊
yeah ok you know better than Toyota. try and read the room where cars are going bro
Hydraulic steering on the old 4runner so much better
I suspect there are differences in parts suppliers between 4runner built in Japan and tacoma built in Mexico. I'll take a Japan built over Mexico built.
can't even buy a hybrid one for months
Good job, Kirk! 👍😁

If they don’t bring back the V6 V8 they will fail tremendously I’m so glad I purchased the 5Gen 4Runner 👎🏾
omg get over yourself
Yah the quality of the cloth seats isn’t as nice as the 2005 4 runner with the velour fabric. Feel like everything is getting worse and more expensive if you really compare materials.
I’ll quit biching about the 4cyl turbo, but…. The iforce MAX costs too damn much😢
Ugh, tumble forward seats. For the price increases, the non-3rd row models should have had fold flat second row seating.
Turbo4 sucks
That blue on the dash is a deal breaker for me 👎
Toyota is getting lazy with their redesigns those rear vents look like they're from a 20 year old toyota
A Highlander AWD (non-Grand model) is a better vehicle than this. 90% of customers don’t need the Moab suspension & tires of this mall crawler
what a disastrous decision by Toyota to ruin the 4Runner!!
My favors2 UA-cam
That shifter is bulky and ugly
Looking at it head on, it looks like Sid from Ice Age
😓
2015 4Runner Limited owner here , bought new. Those cloth seats in this trim look cheap af. Also you'll need that acoustic glass to drown out the crappy 4 cylinder sounds and harshness compared to the v6.
I trust Toyota so I dont care about the turbocharged engine
Toyota wins every single time when it comes to the ugliest interior design in the world.
We live in 2025 and they still use screens from 1995...
Pretty sure the only vehicles in 1995 that had screens were S-class type vehicles lol
All I see are tariffs!!
