Back in the day I remember lifting and dropping the record needle hundreds of times trying to figure out spots in the song. Wear out the tracks! Love Bruce and his work. Saw him live only once, in Northampton, Mass in 1987. Him, by himself, on stage. Feet working some bells, 3 guitars, amp, that was it.
That's the way I learned this tune and many others. Did you know the trick of putting the turntable speed on 16? Slows the tune down by half and drops the pitch an octave. Easier to figure out what's actually going on. Thanks for listening.
I first saw Bruce Cockburn play in about 1972 in Peterborough, Ontario. He was accompanied by Eugene Martynec, another very fine player, and to this day it was one of the most memorable concerts I have ever seen. Later, in about 1975, I was a student at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary and you were invited to play there, solo, and I also thoroughly enjoyed that. I really liked your version of Sunwheel Dance. It is a deceptively tricky song to play. I know from experience! Thanks.
Thanks for the great story. I remember the Eugene Martynec tour; saw them in Calgary. I think they played a lot of stuff from the Salt Sun and Time lp. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have about 26 to 30 albums of Bruce and I have enjoyed them all. I used to play Sun wheel dance but kind of forgot it and presently I'm learning is acoustic version of lovers in a dangerous time which isn't too difficult except for singing and picking at the same time. Great job on sunwheel dance and more accurate than I was playing it!
Hi Jim Matt in California here!. I love Bruce Cockburns acoustic picking guitar music. Great job on the song. I have been learning "foxglove" and "wondering Where the Lions are from a tutorials I found on You Tube. I can almost get it from your explanation and watching your fingers. Thanks for the heads up on the tuning also. I had a very talented friend who could learn songs from listening to them on record too. I am not quite there yet. I hope you can find the time to do a slowed down tutorial of this piece . I want to play it for my family when we can finally get back together after everyone has their covid shots. Take care . Peace Matt
Well done sir.! 👏

Great job.
Well done!!
Perfecto! Inspiring. I’m gonna keep practicing. There’s a lot to learn when you consider all the hammer-ons and pull-offs. Thanks for posting!
That would have been a great tune to play as an example of hammer-ons and pull-offs. They're everywhere in the tune. Thanks for pointing that out!
Wow beautiful
fun tune to play.
xcellent job. you got me learning this now .the picking is tricky.

Thanks Matt. Yes a slow-motion version would probably be good. Even better with TAB, which I don't have.
Hello
Do you have a complete lesson for this tune anywhere?
Are comments now on?
