I was initially not a GG fan, in fact I thought he was my enemy. However, over the years I would listen to him in small doses and eventually changed my mind on him. I believe he is someone who tries to speak the truth.
Glenn could explain free speech to a child so that it would understand the pros and cons. All the while elderly adults in my experience often fearmonger the negative sides of free speech but seem impartial to the negatives regarding censorship. In a way, Glenn reallly nailed not only authoritarian leadership, but also captured the general boomer generation spirit. Exceptions are there of course, as there are in any generation, but the tragedy of the world is that the exceptions - free, independent spirits - are hesitant to organise (freedom and authenticity equal relative solitude, not in intensity per se but in numbers) while authoritarians live for networking, go for large numbers and willingly create persona's and convenient enemies. The hope is that every once in a while, the free thinkers crawl out of the woodwork _in time_ to stop authoritarians from rising beyond control - and then crawl back again to enjoy the boons of freedom in the shadow of their victory. Rinse and repeat. No election cycle will put that on a pamflet, except an authoritarian pretending to be one of those heroic free thinkers. Or even a thinker. So where does a sideliner like Bernie fit in? Never trust a boomer declaring a revolution against their own kind. You want a leader who would die for you, not a bendy one who's almost there and boomers are usually very, very bendy.
The way 'freedom of speech' , and its limitation was taught to us as sixth grade students was certainly NOT complicated. We , as citizens of USA , have the right to say ANYTHING , short of calling for physical violence against anyone. THREATENING people not protected....simple enough ?

Couldn’t agree more. It’s all branding… they want it to be impossible to vote against. Easy to smear those people. Look what they did to Ron Paul. If they called it “taking away your freedoms in exchange for safety” bill, the populace wouldn’t have liked that one 😂

This was a great conversation. Thanks Glenn Greenwald!

Of course the US is not a wealthy country, it’s the most indebted country.

Tax. That's it.
Anarchotyranny. See "The Dissident Right".
I rather hear Authenticity.
The Patriot Act is a horrible name for something so unpatriotic. There's no patriotism in taking constitutional rights away!
