@@tammerdau3093 you will most likely be able to transfer the points into ION points which is RBC’s point system. This is the only way you can continue using this transition.
I'm betting that the card will be discontinued in Canada. But out of principle, HSBC and RBC are financial institutions that I boycott because of their incompetence - HSBC for mismanaging HK's community treasure chest and RBC for constantly messing up simple tasks like a wire transfer.
True, but Canada is probably in the top 3 countries in the world for credit card points rewards…. US better? Yeah for sure… UK?… Australia?… NZ?… Anywhere else?… Not really a thing. So could be better, but could be non-existent 🤷♂️
Cobalt is undefeated as a daily driver. For no fx, I go with Scotia Passport and a BMO WE Cashback or Amex SC for cashback. The Desjardins cards are pretty competitive but are not free and they do appear to charge an fx fee. At least the higher cashback can offset the fx fee.
No mention of the brim world elite card with no fx fee, and 2% back in all (aka other) categories. Annual fee is often waived for multiple years. Plus 4% cash back at Amazon.
You can redeem MR points from Cobalt as a statement credit at 1¢/ point or 1000 points for $10. So basically a 5% cashback rate if you mostly spend your money on food.
Apparently the hsbc card is discontinued as of Oct 2023 is the alternative only the Scotia passport? What are your thoughts on the BMO world elite and also for no foreign transactions it seems we are stuck with a cashback option and not travel points what are your thoughts?

Valuable information and I’m happy you make videos to help guide us Canadian folk but I wish you would slow it down a bit. It’s hard to follow and really absorb all the information and nuances when you speak so incredibly fast.
I've never seen any foreign transaction fees on my Cobalt or Amex Bonvoy statements. Not mentioned on agreements either... I think... Is the fee buried in the charge?
What is the philosophy of supplementary card for your spouse on cards like that platinum? Is she better to just get her own account so she gets her own welcome bonus, and then we downgrade one of them before the second annual fee?
This is a great video for everyone. We have a lot of spending in travel, food and other areas. I currently hold the scotia visa infinite passport for the fx stuff and the lounge passes (have a scotia account that waives annual fee), amex platinum, amex biz reserve aeroplan (which I may cancel after 1 yr) and the aeroplan amex, and the rbc avion infinite. Not sure this is the best combo so I may do some trimming. Trying to also get the other avion but despite my 820+ credit score, it seems harder than other cards to get (which I always get auto-approval for td, cibc, amex, etc)
@@mychannel29 Thanks, I've always been diligent about spending/paying off bills, and there was a year I was working at Transunion so I learnt a lot of things that go into the score, and it was helpful in understanding everything that helps/hurts the score.
Also wondering about the HSBC WE MC. Currently an RBC client since 2004 but I have no HSBC history. The HSBC WE MC is on my radar, unsure to apply now or wait till RBC buys them out.
The issue is that HSBC WE is changing its rewards structure, so it will not have 1.5% non-travel purchases. I'm thinking of getting Amex cobalt to replace it, and have my TD Aeroplan infinite that covers the cracks (Costco MC for 3% dining that doesn't take Amex)
Along with the Cobalt card, would you recommend an Aeroplan card, such as the Amex Aeroplan Card, to access preferred pricing on points? I know you talked about an Aeroplan card later on but what’s your opinion on mixing the Cobalt with the Amex Aeroplan?

What do you think will happen to the HSBC MC line up after RBC buys them next year ?
Good question. I've been wondering the same thing. I've been thinking about getting this card until I found out about RBC buying HSBC..

As Canadians we get shafted with credit cards. The cards in the USA are much better!
Way better
Yeah but except cobalt

BMO world elite cashback mastercard is also a great cashback card if you shop at no frills or somewhere that only takes mastercard
Any reasons that the Amex Cobalt + Aeroplan Infinite combo is/is not a good combo?...since you did not mention it

The Desjardins Odyssée Visa infinite privilège is the best !

to get around the minimum income req just say your dog makes 200k a year on your household income :P
Desjardins credit card has a 100$ fee and can give 4% cash back? Did they changed anything?
Venny I like the video you make Your hotel breakdown of your fancy hotels in your Opinion was Excellent
I recommend your channel to my relatives in Canada. Good info!
Great video as always
I know you are not in Quebec, but there are also Desjardins cards with all the similar perks of any World Elite and Infinite Privileges
Also FYI the CIBC Aeroplan card comes with the buddy pass too. Covers North American flights including Hawaii
I believe that offer expired some time ago, just points now

The exchange rate already includes the 2.5% fx fee
Best video. Sums up everything.
for the scotia bank don't a lot of places not accept american express ? it usually gets declined

Any thoughts on HSBC WEMC when RBC is absorbingHSBC? Cobalt + Marriot + visa/mc is my setup :)
TD infinite Privilege vs RBC infinite Privilege, which is better?
For these cards that don't charge the 2.5% fx fee, do they then charge a higher exchange rate?
