Tombstone is such a badass movie. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is pretty much universally accepted by most people as one of the greatest performances ever put on the big screen

I could watch this movie over and over, and I just wait for Val to say
"I'm your Huckleberry" One of the best lines of all time in a movie, they were all amazing actors in this movie.
I'm always taken aback by Val's "I don't" comment when others mention having many friends. The simplicity of the sentiment, and the brutal reality that Doc is mostly alone reveals many a harsh truth.

This film is iconic and doesn't get old no matter how many times I watch it
Shootout at the OK Corral is a famous gunfight in western lore. Most of this movie conforms to history with the normal adaptation cuts and timing. Young boys in the 50s and 60s still played OK Corral. This is only one of many movies about it, but it is the best.
Except it never happened at the Corral, but in a vacant block, 3 blocks away and only lasted 30 seconds.
Lia and Viki, as you have probably gathered by now, Wyatt Earp, Morgan Earp, Virgil Earp and their families, Doc Holliday, and Curly Bill, Ringo, Ike Clanton and the Cowboys gang were actual, real-life historical figures in the Wild West. The shootout near the OK corral in Tombstone actually took place largely as portrayed, with Wyatt being the only participant who was not killed or wounded in the gunfight. The incident in which Doc and the Earps were caught in the crossfire ambush at the river, during which Wyatt Earp waded out into the water amidst a hail of bullets to confront Curly Bill, also really happened. Doc Holliday’s illness made him reckless, careless with his life. His mindset was that it would be better to die in a quick, clean gunfight than to suffer a long lingering death due to tuberculosis. His performance as Doc Holliday is Val Kilmer’s best role and greatest performance. (Laudanum is a mixture of opium and alcohol, and Wyatt's common-law wife was addicted to it, which led to her death from an overdose.)
The Earps were not good people..
I was just in Tombstone on my way to L.A, they've kept most of the old town including the Bird Cage Theatre,, with stagecoaches and cowboys up and down the dirt Main Street it's like stepping through a time portal, I highly recommend it.
Some reactors are confused at the beginning of this film about the gang being called 'The Cowboys'. This was just one gang in the Arizona area who called themselves THE Cowboys. That did not mean that everyone who was a cowboy was in the same gang. Most cowboys were just hard working settlers, farmers or workers for big landowners. The gang in this film just happened to call themselves THE Cowboys.
"Cowboys" as a generalizing euphemism for the west of men on horses with guns of any sort really, or horseback riding ranchers and the like, wasn't a thing until after the 1800's,

@@adamscott7354 The word "cowboy" was first used in England in the early 18th century to describe boys that worked with the livestock on the farms.
In North America it became popularized in the later half of the 19th century to describe men who worked on the ranchers and participated in the cattle drives.
The meaning and usage in the US is the same as the Spanish "vaquero" which was first used to describe herders on the Iberian Peninsula. The root "vaca" means "cow" in Spanish.
The myth of the cowboy was largely influenced by Hollywood (and the popular dime novels) but the word, and it's usage, predates the the movie industry.
It has nothing to do with "men on horses with guns". Pretty much every man was on horseback and had a gun, at least those west of the Mississippi.

This is movie that all the Homies would enjoy. I don't know if some viewers get tired of seeing different members reacting to the same movies, but I like seeing the different reactions and the different chemistry in the various Homies team ups.
Wyatt was the only one to walk away from the OK corral without injury. Morgan got hit in the arm, Virgil was hit in the leg, and Doc was nicked on the hip.

Actual Wyatt Earp lived to be 80 years old (1848 to 1929). Wyatt lived through Wild West of late 1800's to early 1900's. He lived in three notorious cities of Wild West: Deadwood, South Dakota, Dodge City, Kansas, and finally Tombstone, Arizona. Wyatt was active from 1865 to 1898. Later in his life, Wyatt worked unpaid consultant for movie studio making silent cowboy movies. As this movie, Wyatt became good friends with then movie stars of silent era: William S Hart and Tom Mix
He also was a marshal in Goldfield NV and was a entrepreneur in Nome and Skagway Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush.
Yes, this is a true story and the movie is 95% historically accurate. I love this movie.

You're correct. It is not historicly accurate
There is no such thing as "historical accuracy" with this story. Almost every "fact" comes from either Wyatts "autbiography" or books an articles written in the 1930's and later (50 years after the events) by authors "interviewing" people who weren't even there, or had an axe to grind. No one who was actually there. But, it's still a rip-roaring story.
More like 60% accurate. But they did absolutely nail OK Corral and the battle of the creek.
Go watch the History Buffs review of the film, then we can argue about what percentage it’s accurate. It’s a great film either way.
I grew up where morgan is buried. The earps parents lived in colton ca. Morgan was shot on midnight in Wyatt's birthday. They were both playing pool together. Bullet missed wyatt. Sad. Also i just came back from Tombstone. The town is packed full of untold history during Wyatt's days and tons of paranormal ghost hunting tours
Val Kilmer stole a movie out from under a handful of other great actors nailing their roles as well. Truly one of the best on screen performances ever.
Love this - Wonderful movie. My family has lived in the Prescott Arizona area for 100 years, and our local history includes Doc Holliday and the Earps. Virgil Earp was a resident here for quite a while and his brothers would come to visit him from time to time. I always believed that Virgil's story was the most interesting of the brothers. Movies like this let me see what living might have been like back then.

I'm glad yall finally got to watch this film. I go to Tombstone often. You can still see the bullet holes in the ceiling at the birdcage theater. There is so much more to the story. Wyatt actually had a deal with Ike Clanton that went bad but it wasn't mentioned. It was one of the main causes of their dispute. Anyway, still a good film.
In Later Years, Wyatt worked in the Movies as a consultant, and when he died several of his Pallbearers were Top Named Western Movie Stars of the day!
While onset one day, a Young Actor approached him and they became close friends. This Actor Patterned every "Western Hero persona" he played on Mr. Earp... The Actor was JOHN WAYNE.
My by far favourite Western to every be made. The cast and cinematography are absolutely top notch.
From what I heard, "huckle'' is an Irish or Scottish word for a handle on a coffin, and ''berry'' was a perversion of ''bearer''. So what Doc meant was "I'm your coffin-bearer'', and he was right.
One of the most popular movies ever in the USA. Val Kilmer (Iceman in Top Gun) as Doc Holiday was incredible as well as Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp. In one of his earlier screen appearances, Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade, Bad Santa, Monster's Ball)had a small role as the guy Wyatt Earp slaps around in the Saloon early in the film. Great reaction by both Lia and Viki. They do distract from the movie by being so pretty, however.😎
Wyatt and Josephine moved to San Francisco and lived out their days.
They spent a lot of time in Los Angles. Earp was a marshal in Goldfield NV for a while and both traveled to Alaska during the gold rush.
Josephine Marcus was originally from San Francisco where her father owned a bakery shop.

This is based on real people. Wyatt Earp was married to Mattie Blaylock who overdosed on Laudanum which is basically opium and distilled alcohol. He then married Josephine Earp. They stayed together until Wyatt died in 1929 and she died in 1944 in Los Angeles.👍🏼
Wyatt and Maddie were never legally married, just shacking up.

Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp and John Henry "Doc" Holliday were the best shots at the time, which is why they were feared. They really were friends. Amazing.
I know it didn't make it in the UA-cam cut, but if you were, at all, confused about when Doc are dying and looked down at his feet and said, "I'll be damned", it was a reference to the old saying, "Dying with your boots on" Someone who said they would die with their boots on was saying that they wouldn't die in bed. Likely out on the trail, or working, or in a fight. Doc never expected to die in bed.

Both Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday were spot on casting. Interesting note: Goldie (Kurt's common law wife) and Kurt named their youngest kid, son as Wyatt Russell.
That scene with Kurt Russell slapping Billy Bob Thornton is maybe the most brutal tough guy scene ever. “I said throw down boy”……and that look on his face is deadly serious.
Cowboy is a term for a ranch hand who works with cattle "The Cowboys" was a gang of outlaws. This film is somewhat fictionalized but in large part historically accurate. Every character mentioned by name was a real person in history.
In the Final scene with Doc Holliday, Those were the actual last words the Real Doc said before passing away.
Also for the Scene, Val Kilmer requested that the mattress he was laying on was covered in Ice, so that he was really shivering under the blankets.
Great reaction ladies. Tombstone is considered not just a great movie but one of the best Westerns of all time; up there with The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Young Guns (1988), and Unforgiven (1992).
Behan was a crooked cop, remained in control of Tombstone. Love triangle between him and Wyatt over Ms Marcus. Behan is county sheriff, not mayor or town marshal. The Earps are the town marshals. They also represented opposite political parties.
Exactly, there was a lot of factors in play beyond just "the Earps vs the Clantons".
The Earps were Republicans with two brothers fighting for the Union while the Clantons (and Behan were Democrats. Old Man Clanton fought with the Confederacy.
Ringo and one of the Clantons were arrested for voter fraud and ballot stuffing but the charges were dismissed when the witnesses suddenly decided that they couldn't remember anything.
There was two major newspapers in town operating when the Earps were put on trial for the Gunfight at the OK Corral. The Tombstone Epitaph , took a pro-Earp editorial stance. The owner John Clum was a Republican and personal friend if the Earps.
The Tombstone Daily Nugget was a Democrat paper and took a pro Clanton stance.

KIlmer should've got an Oscar..Holiday really was like that.. Sweaty-looking and stoned always on something to help him deal with the pain of TB, usually a freindly drunk but was cat-quick when it came to gunplay Most of the guys he killed were sore losers at the card tables like in the intro scene. About 10 years before Tombstone he was facing a hanging without a trial for doing so. Wyatt "Convinced" the mob that wasn't going to happen, Hence Doc's loyalty to him.

You are correct. Curly Bill killing Fred White was an accident. Fred White was much younger in real life and actually well liked by everyone in town, including curly bill. He evidently felt extremely guilty about what happened and before white died and Wyatt Earp himself testified in curly bills defense saying that it was an accidental discharge.
That wasn't the mayor hanging out with the Cowboys, it was Sheriff Biehn, the same guy who tried to arrest the Earps after the gunfight at the OK Corral.

For the longest time I always thought when whaytt tells curly Bill "it's over" was him saying he had enough. And that's what curly bill thinks to. But, I finally realized that he's actually tell him he's over and he is gonna burn everything. That there's no turning back.

Tombstone is based on the real life of Wyatt Earp, his brothers and Doc Holiday and the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona
Doc Holliday was literally on borrowed time for alot of his life. He was the definition of a gangster. He always thought he was going to die in the street in a gunfight and tried to go out like that for many years. Great movie. Great reaction. Surprisingly enough, this movie is fairly accurate.

This is based on real history, but some creative liberties were taken. Just to clear up any confusion
- The gang called themselves "The Cowboys". It doesn't mean that all cowboys were a part of their gang.
To address your confusion thre were two factions in Tombstone. The cowboys and the Earps. The cowboys were crooks and they operated under the authority of the county Sheriif, Behan who got a share of their corruption. The Earps however represented the law abiding citizens of the town in the capacity of town marshalls and they fought against the cowboys and the corrupt county sherrif.

He wasn't the mayor, he was the county sheriff. Virgel was the town Marshall. And by the way, this was based on a true story.
This is without a doubt one my favorite movies of all time.
My oldest friend is Charles Earp , and my Last name is Otero as in Otero New Mexico. We are descendents of those in this story. It's Historically close.
So, ladies, this is, actually, a true-ish story. Each of these characters really existed. The beef between Ike Clanton and Wyatt Earp apparently began as a scheme to get Wyatt elected sheriff, or some such.
The scheme involved Ike ratting out a wanted Cowboy, Wyatt making a citizen’s arrest, receiving the reward, passing the reward to Ike and riding the fame Wyatt got by bringing a wanted criminal to justice.
The beef came from Ike’s, I guess, guilty conscience and fear that the Cowboys would find out Ike had betrayed one of their own, though the historical record seems clear that Wyatt never said a word.
For the shootout at the OK Corral, Wyatt was tried in a State court, I believe. The fact that Ike ran at Wyatt, screaming “I’m not armed, don’t shoot!” and Wyatt let him go was a key element in his defense.
Among other fine westerns I can recommend ''Open Range'', ''Quigley Down Under'' and ''Silverado''.

Everything you want an American Old West movie to be. I remember seeing it Christmas Day in theaters when it was released. Great movie! Another great Western you two should react to is "Unforgiven" (1992).

Actually masterly directed by Kurt Russell. Constantos is credited as director but he was actually fired early in the film's production and Russell took over the directing duties though he was not credited as such. (Something to do with the regulations of the Directors Guild which they kind of fudged.)

True fact: I’m actually related to Wyatt Earp. I’m related to his mother, Virginia Ann Earp or Virginia Ann Cooksey which is actually my grandmother’s last name on my mother’s side. Therefore, I am Wyatt’s 4 generation cousin.
I actually plan to visit Tombstone. Just on my bucket list to walk the very streets where my relative Wyatt did. Like history kinda repeating itself. 🤠🔫
Ike Clanton was shot by a lawman in 1887, 6 years after the events in Tombstone.

Great movie and great cast. Val Kilmer’s Doc is one of the best characters ever written and acted. If you haven’t seen it, also check out the western Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.

This movie is more or less a true story. I live less than an hour away from Tombstone, the town in Arizona, and they still have the saloon where the shootouts happened, and a few other historic sites.

You should check out "Gunfight at the O K Corral" from 1957 with Burt Lancaster which this movie is remade from. Enjoy your watch.

For a really funny take on life on the frontier, watch ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West.’ The main character goes on and on about all the risks that waited for anyone living there and then.
Sometimes you just need Wyatt Earp and his Immortals to ride in and (delete) everyone wearing a red sash...
My tag has been Doc Holliday since I was a teen because of this movie.
These guys were all real people in the U.S. Doc Holiday was a dentist earlier in his life.
It's not easy to find someone who says that doc is not their favorite character in the movie .
Since it came out this has one of my favorite movies. The only part that I don’t love is at the end where Wyatt is telling Josephine how much he loves her. I said almost the exact same thing when I proposed to my wife. We were married for 18 glorious years before I lost her. That scene is always bittersweet.
This is my favorite Western. Love Doc Holiday and Wyatt🎉

The Mayor, like all politicians, plays both sides against the middle.
The movies rarely talk about it but the politics surrounding the OK Corral fight were quite complicated. Factions were vying for control of Tombstone and the Arizona Territory and multiple people were trying to play both sides. Wyatt wanted to get elected Sheriff so he allegedly cut a deal with Ike Clanton that backfired and turned the groups into enemies.

😂😂😂😂 After so many reactions I think it's safe to say Viki's a very sweet and loving woman...but she will also stab you in your sleep if you do her wrong.
Doc was called Doc because before he went oit west he had been a dentist in Georgia.
He had to give it up when he got sick because no one wants be treated by a dentist who is coughing up blood.
You question whether or not the film was about real happenings. Actually it was. Obviously we can't know precisely everything that was and etc. But a lot is true. For example when Wyatt goes up against Curly Bill in the middle of the river that actually did occur and Wyatt did end Curly Bill at that moment. At the end of film you hear the narration about Wyatt and his lady. That was factual also.
This is one of my favorite Western films although there are many great ones. I just, on my own, re-watched El Dorado. Another great one and of course ALL of the Clint Eastwood westerns are insanely good especially, "The Good The Bad, and The Ugly"

This storyline is based on actual events at Tombstone, Arizona.
Doc Holliday was suffering Tuberculous or TB. Doc started out as a Dentist. He had a practice out East before moving to Arizona because of dry heat helps his breathing. TB affects the Lungs especially lining of the lungs. Doc gave up his practice and started working as a poker player and gunslinger/lawman.
Its actually based on real people and real events and its pretty historically accurate
You might enjoy the movie Wyatt Earp which covers young Wyatt's life up through the time captured in at the end of this movie.

Term Cowboy was created when Black Cowhands (Help) would attend the Cows. Black Men were called Boys thus the term Cowboy was created. later on it became the term generally used for those who ride horses, wear Cowboy Boots, Cowboy Hats and so on. My Step Father was a Cowboy.
Also Val Kilmer did a great Doc Holliday, the two of them together was good casting.
The heroic cowboy/western lifestyle still lives on but is slowly dying out here in the US states especially the western states since the theme is western hehe and glad you both got to react to another American classic 🇺🇸🤗

Doc Holiday was really that fast. Vals acting of the part was amazing, no other pair could have done it.
