@Brett Mitchell news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6444207.stm Short of a full alliance/mutual defense treaty like both have with the US, but in any case it's quite clear that both Japan and Australia regard the others as important partners and friends, even if there isn't a piece of paper saying "we're allies".
@Brett Mitchell Words have meanings. Sometimes words have different meanings to different people :-) The term "ally" isn't too precisely defined. I quote one definition (from Wikipedia): "An alliance is a relationship among people, groups, or states that have joined together for mutual benefit or to achieve some common purpose, whether or not explicit agreement has been worked out among them." In this sense, Australia and Japan are definitely allies. FWIW, Wikipedia also considers the RAA between Australia and Japan a military alliance. If Wikipedia isn't authoritative enough for you, the US government defines a number of countries as "major non-NATO allies" without necessarily having mutual defence treaties. You're using a very narrow definition and one that isn't generally accepted.
Japan would be able to push back the Australian navy due to Japans navy being much larger but being a defense nation means they would not have enough manpower to invade Australia. This is my guess before watching the video.
There should be a video on USA, Japan,ROK, Australia, Taiwan,ASEAN, India UK, European union vs Russia,China,Iran, Mongolia, North Korea and all the countries having stan at the end of their names.
Yes, every time I see a video I think, but how would things play out in 10 years and 20 years? In this video for example. Both Australia and Japan are in the middle of massively upgrading their military due to China's looming threat. The new proposed Australian Frigates are bigger than our destroyers and in theory sound quite capable. Likewise Australia is trying to upgrade it's submarine fleet from the 9 mediocre Collins class to 12 of the new bigger French Subs, which they went with because they wanted regional superiority over japan (Sub Briefs Channel has a really good run down of this). I can't remember off the top of my head Japans orders, but I'm sure it's a shot in the arm too. So I'd like to know, even if it was at the end of the video if much would change in 15 years or so. Even if it was a rough guess.
@Bobo Mbutu you realise that many more would have died if the atomic bomb's weren't dropped, what about the ughyer genocide, what about the independence of hong kong? why don't you question the propaganda you are force fed?
Australia's biggest advantage is its size. Japan could easily destroy Australia's navy, but the logistics of conquering and holding the mainland would be downright impossible.
It is also a huge hinderance, Australia is essentially 12 or 13 city states strung out along the coast of an entire content. Cut the string at a few points, it would likely cause mass starvation. Hungry people capitulate pretty quickly.
@GN MFirst of all, this section was comedic. Secondly the Australia and Japan of 1942 aren't there anymore, they're allies now. They both have US support. They won't fight without a coalition. Their main enemy is China, who I don't think would be able to bomb Australia against all coalition like the old Japan of 1942. You seem more from an enemy country of Australia xD
Our indomitable emu legions vs the impeccable running and maintenance of the shinkansen (bullet trains) should have been explored more in this scenario :)
Dont forget the reason we dont have satellites for surveillance - Its because we comprise one arm of the 5 eyes club and have access to the entire American and UK satellite network. Plus if it came to dire straights and we were losing the country - A couple of B-52's would take off from Nevada and deliver some Hydrogen bombs to our shores (thats why we allow US troops at pine gap - Its part of the agreement). We also have the capability of obtaining our own nuclear weapons in 90 days (using the Lucas heights reactor) and our abundant Uranium as a source for the bombs. Hell, give me 90 days, a few lathes, some explosives and a heap of refined Uranium and i could build a bomb based on the 'gun type' nuclear bomb designs. All we need is 43kg's of Uranium, which we could get easily from one of the many mines up up north.
australia would use the same tactics they used in kokoda, russia used the same against germany..... retreat till your enemy cant handle supply pressure

If Finland, Sweden, and Norway remain neutral Canada will probably win due to our larger population and economy (can put more funds towards building an army).
@@JollyOldCanuck true, if it turns into a multi-year war it would be pretty one sided. So let's add some Binkov-style restrictions and say it's only a one year conflict, no outside help, thus limiting it to currently available equipment. The Canadian and Danish airforces have a rough parity and while the Canadian Navy is larger and has subs (kinda), the Danish navy remains debatably newer and more potent (while the RCN waits for the Type 26). The question would be which is better suited for an Arctic role. The Canadian army is a lot bigger, but it wouldn't really be as big a factor in the conflict over the island. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but I think it would be interesting to see a Binkov deep dive into!
Australia almost bought the latest Japanese submarines, but went for the French design instead (due to lobbying). That would be a awkward scenerio if Australia was getting delivery of Japanese subs just before this hypothetical war. Of course Japanese subs have been in Sydney Harbour - historically.
I did all the sums a couple of weeks ago. For the same price as we're paying for these subs (AUD90 billion), we could have bought 3 Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, and a dozen off-the-shelf USN Virginia-class nukesubs...and have more than enough money left over to outfit everything, including F-35B's for the carriers. I'm probably too old to be here for whenever the next war kicks off (and it will), but just like in the 1930's...our successive complacent and myopic governments will end up costing us dearly.
Australia's defence policies over the last half century have been criminally stupid. The Collins Submarines have been a waste of untold billions. The F-35 is an extremely overpriced underperformer. @GN M I guess the punchline is china is taking over businesses? Can't see a 20 min video now .... But business is upto a limit dude. They still are part of the Anglosphere and will support the NATO during a conflict. Everyone wants money, but during war, this business will not be there
Commonwealth countries are known more for their mechanized infantry rather than their navy or Air Force (excluding the UK which has a sizeable navy and Air Force).
Australia’s defence strategy for the defence of the mainland is clearly to defend the air-sea gap with the air force and navy first. For example if China wanted to invade Australia we would not have to fight 2 million Chinese soldiers. We would only have to fight the number that managed to get to Australia via the air sea gap. However once they got a foothold in Australia then we would have to fight up to 2 million. That is what he meant about the army being an afterthought (which was perhaps a poor choice of words). Priority in strategy is to stop the enemy getting here in the first place. We have not yet fought a land campaign on our own soil and we don’t want to have to do that because we would only be doing that if we had lost control of our air and sea approaches, in which case the invader with essentially unlimited numbers and resources would be able to resupply indefinitely until they obtained victory.
@@robman2095 Yea I know I did watch the video too. Its still not an afterthought. It is really an advanced, capable, and historically-proven army ready to fight on, or off, our own soil
For the vast majority of nations fighting an attacking war one on one across a large distance means losing. The US, UK, France, China and Russia are the only real exceptions to that rule in order of force projection capability.
Even Russia doesn't really have the same capability that the USSR did, it's not a major focus for them. E.g. 1 outdated aircraft carrier. They should still have enough to beat Australia though.
A China and Russian alliance would be disaster for the world. Russian pushing west would force the US to commit vast resources. The EU is not prepared to deal with the Russians. The Chinese would make quick work of Taiwan and focus on Japan. The N.K would unleashed on the South and more US could lose our footing their too. Arab nations would likely seize the opportunity to attack Israel. A real world war would break out.

Could you make a video talking about a fictionnal war between France and Algeria in their current army situation, in which France would try to "take back", sort of speak, it's former territory. Which nation would prevail? Would France succeed in it's second invasion of Algeria, or would Algeria triumph and perhaps even invade France itself?
Australia had no satellites in this scenario because they get most of what they need through the US alliance. While we will increasingly launch our own satellites for our specific needs we also get far more information from the US then we could ever afford to provide for ourselves. Binkov does not make allowance for that because assistance from third parties is not allowed. But that just makes his analysis even more flawed and unrealistic as this satellite information would play a vital role in the outcome.
Its not though, Honestly i stopped watching after he said Australia has no satellite capabilities Its called Pine Gap - Its a satellite surveillance base smackdab in the middle of Australia, Its operated by the US and AUS governments and its been operational for over 50 years, I has multiple Orion Satellites connected to it that are synced and cover slightly over half the entire planet including the entirety of the European continent/Asian continent/African continent, I would agree to not include if it was solely a US base on lease but its not, Year late but i had to vent, Sorry :/

Technically New Guinea was sovereign Australian territory during WW2 which is why the 39th Battalion Australian Militiamen could serve there. They have a historical nickname which I will post as a seperate response. it might ring you tube's alarm bells. historical revisionism at its finest.
The 39th Battalion "chocos" or "chocolate soldiers" were basically barely trained militia. They were NOT allowed to be deployed outside of Australia because of an act of parliament. Only the volunteer AIF could be. Therefore, Japan clearly attacked Australia when they entered Australian Territory in New Guinea. (let alone bombed Broome, Darwin etc). Australia only granted New Guinea independence in 1975. Historical facts guys.
The Australian landscape would be its greatest defence asset. Even if an invader were permitted to land troops unimpeded, surviving in many parts of Australia is a difficult and costly exercise. Just the fuel to travel the vast distances between targets of interest would be a major logistical operation. I wonder if, in the face of a land invasion, Australia would dust of the Brisbane Line defence plan?
Video idea: the best militaries in the World *by budget.* The most effective forces by budget - so while America is the most powerful in the World, it also spends more than the next few militaries combined. Compared by money spent, who had gotten the best bang for their buck? Choose a arbitrary figure… $10 billion or so, and then divide or multiply that nations forces by whatever percentage $10 billion is compared to their actual military budget.
China very likely gets the most value for its spending. The fact that the military industry is owned by the government combined with their massive industrial power and cheaper labor. Oh and you can add economies of scale to all of that. I wouldn't be surprised if china gets 1/3 more value per dollar than the US, there's a reason they're catching up to the capabilities of the US so fast
Russia would most likely win. The fact that they get only 1/10th of the funding of the US and still keep their numbers and quality comparable to the US is amazing
It depends on the doctrine, generally speaking, defending costs less than attacking. The US' large spending is largely due to the need to upkeep its power projection, and higher salary for the military personnel is also another factor.

Short of a full alliance/mutual defense treaty like both have with the US, but in any case it's quite clear that both Japan and Australia regard the others as important partners and friends, even if there isn't a piece of paper saying "we're allies".
@Brett Mitchell Words have meanings. Sometimes words have different meanings to different people :-) The term "ally" isn't too precisely defined. I quote one definition (from Wikipedia): "An alliance is a relationship among people, groups, or states that have joined together for mutual benefit or to achieve some common purpose, whether or not explicit agreement has been worked out among them."
In this sense, Australia and Japan are definitely allies.
@Brett Mitchell not yet but it's currently in negotiation.
Japan would be able to push back the Australian navy due to Japans navy being much larger but being a defense nation means they would not have enough manpower to invade Australia. This is my guess before watching the video.

Serious Question : Will Binkov one day make an hour video on a modern WW3 scenario?
This question has been in my mind since 2017 lol
Isn't the whole channel basically one huge WW3 scenario? :)

Commonwealth countries are known more for their mechanized infantry rather than their navy or Air Force (excluding the UK which has a sizeable navy and Air Force).
Yes good point

Australia had no satellites in this scenario because they get most of what they need through the US alliance. While we will increasingly launch our own satellites for our specific needs we also get far more information from the US then we could ever afford to provide for ourselves.
@@mickeyg7219 sorry but capitalism and corruption are the main factors, look up how much money the defense contractors make, and how much they pay to politicians to get the government to spend more and even to keep funding terrible failed programs long past when they should have been cut.
@@missilemans6688 Russia definitely gets some really good development, but on their newer weapons they lack the funding or industry to produce them in large quantities, and hence are stuck upgrading their old tech. Unfortunate, would love for them to mass produce some su57s and t14s
If you have anything bigger than a BB gun, you can basically walk into Australia....
You have no idea 😂😂😂
As an aussie, Australia’s entire military strategy is, hopefully if we do whatever the Americans want they will defend our country for us
Obviously you are either not an Aussie, or one one of the least informed. As a kiwi who regularly goes on defence forums online, id recommend you vist defencetalk.com at least, one of many that mentions just how massive the defence whitepaper spend Australia has done and is doing over the next ten years on all its forces, how it exceeds any regional power, and is ranked currently 12th in the world.
They are improving it, but I think the strategy is to basically make an attacker pay to much to make an attack worth while or bleed them and hold untill one of allies back us up. From what I understand we could hold for some time. Though I thought we had more Aircraft. I found that concern.
@@Hoot_hoot777 yes but that is the defence strategy of most countries. It is preferable to deter the enemy from ever attacking than to try to defeat them in battle.
Why aren't the giant robots of the JSDF and their vast experience fighting against Godzilla mentioned in this video? XD
Still, great video.
Let’s face it if this happened the British wouldn’t sit this one out nobody fucks with our boy’s
