Let's Talk Discs and Punches with Judi of JLBCrafts

- In this video we'll look at various brands, sizes and styles of discs as well as comparing multiple brands of punches and I'll show you a hack for punching pages without a punch!
NOTES: The prices for the various discs I mention in the video do not include tax but do include shipping which will take 3-4 weeks to the USA. I did not mention the cost of the AliExpress punch which was $11.01 (shipping included but not tax.) I was unable to find the name or link to the small, single "D" punch. Finally, not everything is linked, just a representative sample to help you find what you need.

I bought some discs from happy planner glossy tortoise ones and they wont let my pages turn in my planner. They were final sale which tells me they KNEW the discs were bad...but the final was so little I couldnt see it.
I never purchased any of the smaller, compact punchers as I wanted something capable of punching more sheets. The two I own are the Staples Arc Adjustable and Levenger Circa Leverage. Both work well, but I find that the Levenger moves smoother, more freely across the discs, both plastic and metal. It's the one I personally recommend. Thanks so much for the video!

Have you ever tried to make your own discs, or know of anyone who has? Maybe from polymer clay or recycled materials?
I have not and I'm not aware of anyone who has but I thought tempered glass would be a great medium! Let me know if you give something a try!
Came here for the punches sorry if you have covered TUL elsewhere but if not do you have impression/opinion on that? I found it for less than $30 and seems better constructed than the pink MAMBI punch from my brief look
Grab it! TUL punches are great! I used them at work a lot, they just have the same drawback as the Levenger punch in that they don't punch quite as deep as the Happy Planner but it will punch through laminate and thin plastic without breaking unlike the Happy Planner punches. Spacing between punches is the same just like Levenger and Happy Planner.
@@JLBCrafts thanks for reply, it just arrived and I am so wishing I had learned of it before throwing $35 away on the hot pink MAMBI brick! Hoping for a much happier experience with the TUL punch going forward.

AliExpress is definitely a rabbit hole - proceed with caution!
Hi, I love this video. I downloaded the Ali express app after watching it. I love to switch out my discs for the seasons. There have been some colors that I have been wanting that are more expensive. It's awesome that these are a lot cheaper. Are the classic size discs the 35mm ones on Ali express? I notice they go by measurements.
The classic Happy Planner discs are about 1.25" which is about 32mm so 35mm will be a tiny bit bigger, but almost unnoticeable. That's the size I went with and I love them!

What do you do with all your discs? I had ordered some from Amazon and the pages don’t turn as well as with my metal expander discs. I got 24 of them and don’t know what to do with all of them or how to store them. Help!!

If you want to store them sorted the plastic washi storage boxes with the adjustable inserts work well. If you want to be more decorative glass jars are a great idea.
I keep all of my old planners archived so I can refer back to them as needed or to reminisce. I have taken apart hand writing workbooks and combined them with paper and used spare discs to make a workbook. There are many uses for extra discs, believe me you will find ways to use them!
As for getting them to turn easier I have heard of rubbing them with a dryer sheet or wax paper as well as turning each one in place a few times with your planner closed. This second method is the one I prefer. The next time I do a video which includes changing my discs I will include this tip!
I recently purchased a leather agenda cover with gold tone hardware. The discs I purchased from the same vendor look more like a very bright, rich mustard than a gold. Can you recommend a more lightly colored gold disc? I hate the idea of having to make a purchase only to discover the discs brightly colored than subtle.
If you are looking for metal the Happy Planner gold discs are lighter and not deep, brassy gold.

I love aliexpress. At any given time I have at least a couple orders in shipment from that site. I have ordered everything from a selentie crystal to Samsung ear buds on there. Such a great site and I've had very positive experiences even when needing customer service.
