    I love this!! I just bought my first Louis Vuitton desk agenda and was thinking about getting a disc bound agenda to go inside it and literally had absolutely no idea what it even was when a friend suggested it. I found your youtube video and couldn't thank you enough for the information!!!! I literally will recommend your video to newcomers looking into the disc system and will forward them this link whenever I meet one! Thank you =)

    I have the arc brand punch also. It is fantastic. I will be using 3 discbound binders as my fountain pen journaling, ink swatching/testing, and one for my ink collection. I purchased a discbound 2021-2022 planner at Michael’s on clearance for 3.50. I removed all of the old planner papers and will be using the cover with my own paper insert creations.

    The disc bound system will never be beat, I found the initial investment to be so worth it. I wish they would make a punch that had a better capacity, but overall it’s so nice how it spans across various brands, I love how open you were about people going whatever route they wished.

    I noticed the covers you had were pretty thick. How would you punch those?

  • @calisongbird
    @calisongbird 5 років тому +17

    I love everything about discbound EXCEPT for one thing - if you punch a piece of lightweight paper, such as standard notebook paper, that page tends to fray and slip out when turning the binder back on itself, or when turning the page. Scotch tape or washi tape along the edge helps it stay in somewhat, but that's an extra step to take when adding a page. I think discbound works pretty well with the thicker, heavier weight pages they tend to come with. I do not overfill or underfill my discs.

    Another important point is that aluminum discs work a lot better than plastic ones. The pages turn a lot more smoothly on them. Also, a high quality company for discbound planners and accessories is Levenger (their disc system is called Circa). The size and shape of their punched holes also enable much smoother page turning. I have an Arc punch but I just bought the Circa Desk Punch to compare. I suspect that one may punch better holes, for purposes of smooth page turning and less paper edge fraying. Another company I just discovered with GORGEOUS disc planner supplies is called The Collected Planner. They have truly elegant stuff.
    I searched for Blitsy, but they appear to be out of business now.

      i have issue with page turning! it seems the page isnt turned as smooth and I have been searching for videos explaining about this but still a No. What's exactly the problem? At first I thought I put too much papers, but when I tried the smallest number of papers, still! I am using plastic ring, and a puncher from We R memory keepers.

    Love your informative videos. I actually was so excited to start a system that I could take pages in and out of. I'm brand new to the discbound world. I purchased what I thought would be great for my planner but unfortunately the discs are not allowing the pages to turn smoothly. I had read that metal ones were smoother and that is what I purchased. If you have any suggestions on this matter I would we greatly appreciate it. I did purchase probably the cheapest 1in. (they do seem the right size for the amount of pages I'm using) metal ones available as I am on a very tight budget. But unless I can get a smoother page turning disc I may not be able to use the system. Thank you so much in advance for your help.
    Love your videos and think this will be perfect for my ADHD brain.

    New to discbound system. I plan to use it for my kids History notebook because I love the idea that we can add and remove pages. My question is what or how can I use to bind the pages at the end of our school year so we can reuse the disc again? If that's even possible. With Homeschooling 6 kids I'm always on a tight budget. Thank you.

      I just learned in the last few hours how they work, having just jumped into the fray with planner terminology (working on implementing a digital planner of my design for iOS) and I’m also someone that 3D prints and I have 3D printers (plural). As shown, the obvious answer is to buy larger discs, as large as you need. How large is that? I don’t know, and you might not until the end of the year.
      However, even if huge ones are needed and they’re not for sale, with a 3D printer they can’t be too hard to make of an arbitrarily large size (within the limits of the printer, but seriously, you don’t want a book with that many pages anyway) as long as you use the correct profile of the disc. At the same time, if being able to lay it all flat when you look at it isn’t a priority, you can use the profile of a disc on a flat rectangular section as long as the thickness you need, sort of stretching out the disc, and make ends on the non-discs as stoppers. The genius/beauty of the whole system (why did nobody invent this centuries ago???) is the holes punched to where they also go through the edge of the paper, and rely on the nature of paper and other flexible materials to work when forced over the profile of the discs: that the binder discs are discs in shape is only one way of doing it.
