You would not believe how difficult I find scrappy. After a professional life of precision and my sewing life too. Not pressing each square my toes were curling😫LOL Thankyou for showing me how liberating it can be. Now I know I just have to let go and jump in👏👏👏🤞🤞🤞🤣🤣
You can do it! ☀️☀️☀️ Let go with scraps for sure, if you want to. Keep the precision in your wheelhouse for projects like an heirloom quilt pattern or such.... 🌸✂️🧵.
I know the feeling ... and, I have days when that is exactly what I try to do .... however, we have to save something of our stash for backings - - thankfully, I realize that fact before I actually burn through my stash, and get back to the business of actually using my scraps ... LOL ... Annette really knows what do with scraps.
@maryseaman some of my pieced backings have turned out pretty nice! I usually have a leftover block or 6 that I’ll use on the back. We are fabulous, aren’t we?!! 🤗
@@lesa6399 I remember one of Elenor Burns sewists that took all of her leftovers from which ever pattern she was making and put the scraps into her backing. I am planning a wedding quilt that I have plans for doing just that. My sister-in-law sent me some western themed fabric that she was done using, so I am going to incorporate all of those pieces into the back also. I know what the wedding colors are (and, they are out of my wheel house) so I purchased fabric from the front. I would rather sew scraps than anything else, but for the wedding I am going to use three fabrics in the 54-40 or fight pattern. a three colored, one pattern quilt is not my idea of fun, but .... my sister-in-law's addition on the back with any leftovers will make my scrappy heart SING!
I have been watching some of your previous videos and because of that i spent several days on my scraps. I have a large bin of crumbs, a bin of bricks 4 1/2 × 2 1/2 and a bin of various strips. After seeing this video i know what i will be making first. Thank you so much for all your awesome videos. Have learned so much
Once again, another beautiful, colourful, scrappy quilt top. A fantastic way to use up your scrappy stash. That sashing was perfect. Thanks for this idea 🥰
Great way to use up scraps! Making a full size quilt top is a bit intimidating to me, I like to do smaller projects. I love the process of making the scrap material, but following a project through to finishing is something I need to work on...lol.
Your result is really beautiful!! From second-round scraps, too, thanks to your beautiful blue sashing. Your production skills and your creativity are outstanding. Great job!
Hi Annette. You are MY kind of quilter!!! Each project is a breath of fresh air and I thank you for having the joys of colour and sewing as the main focus rather than persnickety perfection. Like you said, it's about making someone warm... Hugs from Canada.
For me quilting is all about using leftovers from everything. For hundreds of years women have been making quilts without all these fancy tools and they still turn out great
I'm loving this scrappy quilt top! I also take the unusable pieces AND the cutoff thread pieces, set them aside and use them for pillow stuffing. I just completed 41 pillows for the homeless, using these, along with quilt batting that was too small and cut up clothing, soft fabric. Nothing in the landfill. Happy sewing everyone!
Your projects are always amazing! I loved that scrap fabric roll you made, very interesting and the things you made from it where fabulous. I just started watching your channel so I'm binge watching the older videos. Happy Quilting!
Thank you! I have sooo many scraps and extra strips! I’m certain that they will produce the 400+ pieces that will make a quilt about the size you made! You are an inspiration! I am also retired and quilting almost every day!!
W h e w!!! Glad you had enough of the sashing strips! Another example of finished is better than "perfect!" What a lovely quilt! Balancing the colors the way you did between lights and darks and the sashing really made the difference! It tied the quilt together beautifully!
Hi Annette! When I first started quilting ages ago I tried to do patterns where you had to match seams and corners and all that. I quickly abandoned those restrictive methods....just wan't for me! Something about just being able to sew and not worry about all that is more fun for me. Beautiful quilt, beautiful sashing brings it all together!
Aww Paula! ⭐️ It's so true! I just love sewing for FUN and absolutely not perfection! I guess that is why I am just now getting around to doing blocks 8, 9 and 10 of that wedding dress quilt! It's so much more fun to play with my scraps! HA. But I am getting it done finally! Have a wonderful weekend! ☀️❤️🤣✂️🌸
Always a joy to watch your channel! Your approach l/d/l and d/l/d was really informative. I don't know if I could pull it off, as your choice of fabrics were so beautiful & harmonious ... Thanks for all your tips. If I could also ask in your filming, can you slow down the sewing part particularly when putting things together... so I can 'ponder' on what you've said, as your commentary is great. (I hope that makes sense?)... Again thanks for sharing your sewing journey! 😁
This was an interesting quilt and my daughter even liked it .... she thinks too many scrappy quilts end up looking like " clown vomit" .... The sashing definitely controlled and contained your scrappy blocks.... This is definitely doable .... Hope mine turns out as nice.
Thanks so much! ☀️❤️. Your daughter might like this type of project! The colors being in tune with each other makes it a wow, instead of a miss.. ua-cam.com/video/8uCB10D1CIo/v-deo.html

I have found that having your channel playing as I sew keeps me on track for getting my rooms full of scraps and fabric into my favorite kind of quilt! I brought home a small baggie of scraps from church on Wednesday (gifted to me by a friend), grabbed one of my piles of scraps ( I may never see the end of them, but it won't be for lack of trying) ... and began sewing the new baggie into my stash ... I mean - - the next scrap quilt ... LOL The difference in what I am doing is that I am not putting what I have received at the back of the stash ... I am also curious about how big the stack of cutoffs you had from trimming these blocks from the finished quilt. I REALLY liked that you showed how much of the sashing you had left. I will be waiting to see what you do with the trimmings and where the blue shows up next - - you make progress so fun!!!
You did a great job!!! I was kind of freaking out a little when I realized you weren't pressing and matching / nesting your blocks... 😂. my own OCD, I guess. I love how this turned out! Awesome!!! ❤

I love the finished product and the concept but I was finding it a little difficult to wrap my head around. Your video went a little too fast in some spots. I've tried a few blocks but squaring them up is a challenge for me. I think it's me and not you. I've had brain aneurysms and I'm still recovering. I've binge watched so many of your videos. Keep up the fantastic work.
My favorite kind of sewing... I'm spending my retirement years doing just this!
That’s awesome!!! 😎 ☀️
I think I have enough scraps to keep sew for the rest of my life 😂
"Barely enough" is soooo much better than "Not quite enough"...YAY!!!
