    I own a 2017 and 2020 L5P. I tow at a combined weight of 32k under all sorts of conditions. These truck DO NOT have a problem with compressor surge. This is my 9th Diesel truck, 7.3L has compressor surge for instance.

      Nick has more duramax knowledge in his left nut than you ever will. If he says they have a surge problem, they do.

      Yo, same here. I don’t tow that much weight but I actually have a banks ram air intake plus WCFab intake horn on my 21 L5P with NO SURGE.

    I'm having this problem on my 18 L5p. Bought the truck brand new and just started doing this at 167,000 miles. The truck is tuned, deleted running nothing more than a aftermarket air intake and exhaust system... The truck will make a hissing noise and then intermittently chirp when under load (hauling a trailer) up even a slight incline.

    I've noticed this issue with my truck since day one. Bought the truck brand new and have played with multiple things. I have full WCFab piping. I'd really like to look into this ring to possibly help as i pull equipment everyday and the surge gets old ! THANK YOU i thought i was crazy when telling people my truck was surging !

    Titan XDs with the 5.0 Cummins has this issue after tuning. Makes cruising at 75mph or more really annoying.

    My last 22 5th gen had crazy turbo surge under 0 load. And only started happening once I added tge s&b. Now, I'm not sure if this code has anything to do with the surge or if the surge was caused by the code. But fully oe truck with an intake. Surge would happen as I was coming to a stop with my engine brake on. The truck ended up having slow boost respand full emissions failure so now I have a 21 l5p denali. I just thought it was odd to see surge on stock tune with just an s&b. I thought perhaps it was the s&b

    Do you make a surge ring for the Run VSE 65mm Stage 2?

    L5P deleted.. Wcfab horn with surge ring. Not necessarily the chirping/surging problem, more like a rolling stomp on the throttle, and it coughs and falls on its face… then comes alive 🤷‍♂️

      It is the module that banks provide for the intake. That's what is making your truck surge. Remove the module and plug it directly into the MAF sensor and data log for your tuner to see the live data while you drive under load, full throttle, and normal driving.

    Is the add-on surge ring opening diameter any larger than the factory intake horn opening? I wonder what percentage higher flow it would get with the aftermarket intake but with the "restrictor" at the end?

      Our horns can be purchased to match whatever size (stock appearing) turbo you have on the truck. They’re available in stock size, STR, 64mm, and 67mm.

    My 2019 L5P (with Banks Derringer otherwise stock) with 1500lbs in the box (2 snowmobiles on a sled deck) gets what I feel is a turbo surge. Slight grade or headwind and I lean into the throttle it surges bad, maybe 5 chugs in a matter of just a second or 2. It feels pretty violent and it usually scares the shit out of me so I let off the pedal. I haven't tried unplugging the derringer but I think that's my next move. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    • @Duramaxtuner

      An intake horn and anti-sure ring may be in your future. Start with pulling the tuner and seeing if the problem persists.

    My ring didn't include instructions or any notes so I just installed it. Now it's assembled with the surge ring still in my intake horn, do I need to tear it apart and cut that ring out? Why is there no instructions/ link to a youtube install or at least a note saying to remove the horn surge ring included with the ring in the box? If someone on facebook didn't see my pics and point it out I would have never known.

    If we have a stock turbo do you recommend not cutting out the WC fab surge protector that cones with there's?
    Only cut it out if you have a upgraded turbo right?

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Рік тому

      @realroadsideservices5862 No! Even if you have a WC Fab intake horn it is worth removing and replacing the surge protector that comes in the pipe with one of our Anti-Surge Rings. The airflow into the turbo will be less turbulent and our Anti-Surge Ring protects against surge better than what comes in the pipe. You can find our stock turbo anti surge ring here on our website: duramaxtuner.com/turbo-chargers/l5p-intake-horn-anti-surge-ring.html

    I've got a 08 LMM 125k. I've got HSP bolt on's everything except egr delete, duramilage economy tune, fass 165 pump, ppe'd both pan's. Adapted oil filter to CAT, new radiator lines and mishimoto transmission cooler. My transmission can't seem to make up its mind going through the gears at slow and steady pace. I've got a shift kit, but nobody will install it, I'm thinking about purchasing your tuner that changes the transmission on demand of the tune. I seldom put my foot in it, I don't have to! 3 quarter throttle is plenty for me. Basically all I'm after is mpg, maybe little quicker boost response. I do have a 3"down pipe, it not installed yet. Seldom get out for distance on the inter state, getting 17 mpg city/local. What do you recommend?

      If you still have the emissions intact our engine tuning may work for you. Either way, our TCM tuning will likely help.

    So if I have a bone stock truck with bone stock turbo you're saying I don't need that part correct?? I will be tuning soon though. Will this be an issue with a tune or stock?? Thanks!

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  2 роки тому +1

      That is correct. This part will only be helpful if you have an aftermarket intake air horn.

    Question, how do compressor surge covers not cause the same issues as a boost leak? I understand the air recycled back into the intake, but is it still not a big leak from the high pressure side? Or is its design and placement such that it's actually not a high pressure zone under normal operation?

      The compressor wheel itself is under vacuum. Only the tips of the compressor wheel see any pressure as they eject air into the housing, anti surge housings allow that pressure to escape out of the compressor wheel and recirculate back into the intake to keep the wheel from momentarily stopping(surging) when the compressor cannot maintain the pressure ratio at the given flow rate (surge).(high pressure+low flow rate(or closed throttle valve)=surge). Hope that answers all you your questions. Lots of physics at play.

    2019 l5p, Stock turbo with after market wc fab horn, have experienced surge while towing. So I just grind out wc fab’s built in surge ring and pop dmaxtuners in its place???

    • @nickpriegnitz5895
      @nickpriegnitz5895 2 роки тому

      Yes exactly. Id suggest an update to your tune as well if applicable (assuming tuner has an anti-surge update).
