I like how after the song kicks up again the crowd doesn’t even move or cheer or anything. They continue to watch dead eyed. The noise has taken them fully. Shields controls them now
I was at this concert, in the third row. I'm surprised I'm not deaf... I met Bilinda afterward and my ears were still ringing, I couldn't even fully understand what she was saying (although maybe that's just because she's so damn adorable and I was distracted...)
I bought inner earplugs that reduce the sound by 20 to 30 decibels, _while preserving the full sonic spectrum perfectly,_ taking super loud stuff to safe levels. I had tinnitus for a year that was so loud in my right ear the first months that I couldn't hear people over it. Some people might think it's "wimpy" or not how you're supposed to experience this live show, but I don't care: I'd never wish that trauma on my worst enemy, and either way, I don't want to go there again. It seems likely it was medication induced, which can be reversed - sound damage can't be.
dude, if you listened to them - especially this part - with no earplugs, you definitely had some hearing damage, who are you kidding. its like standing in an airplane hangar with a massive jet engine in front of you for 20 mins. i wore industrial-strength ear plugs for the show i went to and it was still loud (and amazing). i agree with what you say about this being a full-body experience, tho... incredible.
Yep. I have inner earplugs that reduce really loud stuff to save levels, while preserving the full audio spectrum. They weren't even that expensive, and I know how to clean them. I had tinnitus I was lucky enough to have go away and I'm not risking it again, lol. I know Kevin himself said he learned to live with it eventually as his "friend", but that has more than a tinge of sounding like an eventually learned coping mechanism. Many musicians from before the 2000s have serious hearing loss and tinnitus from not protecting their hearing, and a kind arms race to be louder than the last band - the 80s were notorious for insanely loud shows, including theirs.
I was there. The video gives a little bit of a hint of the overwhelming sonic assault, but nothing compares to how it felt standing there letting it wash over you. I'm 36 and this was easily the loudest thing I've ever heard in my life.
The video here doesn't do it justice although it is a cool reminder. You literally felt the sound hit you with air for the entire time. It was like a rocket taking off or explosion over and over. I felt like I was being shot with an air machine gun in addition to the sound. My skin was crawling. The floor shook. It was unreal.
I was there last night standing a little to the left of where this was shot. Total sonic assault that made me trip out a little. It was a unique experience. It went on forever (or 20 minutes I lost count lol) then the song kicked back in. It was transcendent. Just an amazing show. Loudest show ever. Best show ever. Best thing fucking ever. Best band ever. They are on another level. They are from Mars or something. Just out of this world. Cool video thanks
saw them in SF on this tour, they did the same thing, it was amazing.

10 years after you wrote that comment - are you experiencing any kind of hearing loss symptoms now? I'm very curious if you have any information or comment about it. Thanks! :)
They weren't really playing a song here. It was just super loud noise. I doubt many pocket camera microphones will be able to handle that decibel level well, which is why you won't hear a clear recording.
I saw them in the early 90's and it was painfully loud. A friend coming out of the first show tipped us off and handed me a pair of earplugs when he came out and saw us standing in line for the second show.
The front sound cut off twice during that part at the Zenith Paris concert. The third time it cut off they left the stage with Shields putting down his guitar pretty angrily. Then I went to their sound guy who was saying "I'll never play in this shithole again. I'm scared to go backstage right now". Tough night :)
Anybody else who saw this show having hearing issues. Stood on the floor up front off to the left. Wore earplugs the whole show and stayed for this part too. Ears not the same, not pleased with myself or the experience. I mean why would a band play so loud that they would alter peoples hearing when they wore earplugs. I am not a kid and that is what makes it unfortunate, I am upset with myself. I wish I had left early.
I also went to see Sunn O))) but they had free cheap plugs outside and also a warning about the loudness in the door. At that point not getting plugs can only be considered naiveness or pure masochism.
@@gab_gallard is it common to use earplugs in Germany when in a show? I mean, this was almost 15 years ago. Were you fine after the show? Man, I'm scared as shit, this is too loud and it sounds like pure shit, but there are a bunch of people staying still there
I think the band do recommend that people wear earplugs/protection to their shows. or at least they did in the past. used to have some pretty intense and strung out/extended live versions of I think either "feed me with your kiss" or "you made me realise" where they would go for broke.
@KozmoJ68 It was recorded on a digital camera. Without professional equipment, any consumer-grade microphone will be clipped out with those sound levels.
Saw this tour in Dallas. I didn't wear the free earplugs. I was audibly assaulted and it was incredible. I left the gig and drove back to Oklahoma City floating in my car.
Insanity. I saw them on the Rollercoaster tour. I ducked out at this point of the song and hid in the gents and the pipes rattled so much I thought they were going to burst! Now Im partially deaf in my left ear. I think they wanted to out-noise the Mary Chain... They succeeded, but the JAMC were a 10000 times better imo...
i thought they sounded great, ... and then the 20 minutes of the apocalypse came around and that was just ridiculous. I was on the side watching the people in the front row, I thought they're heads were about to explode, they looked like zombies. I can appreciate noise, but that was pointless.
They wear in ear monitors, basically they just hear the return of the sound of the other instruments (at a low volume to avoid hearing damage). Only the public don't use anything and get permanent hearing loss
