I agree with skylar on the straws; I hate that disabled people now have ANOTHER thing to worry about before leaving the house. A reusable straw doesn’t seem like a big deal to able bodied people like us, but think of disabled people who may take a long time preparing to leave their house, and now God forbid they forget their reusable straw.
I'm sympathetic, but I'm having a little trouble understanding this. I know that able-bodied people have it much easier, but why exactly is it so much more effort to remember to bring a reusable cup? In my opinion, the effort matters here for everyone. If you forget every once in a while, that's okay, but cutting down on the plastic use is important. Especially if you need a straw because of a disability, I don't see the issue with having a reusable one on you. Would you mind explaining further or proving me wrong haha? Not a hater, I just want to be educated!
Also some people need the plastic ones!!
sip most abled people don’t need a straw to drink most drinks, while some disabled people need them to be able to drink. When people bash disabled people for not having a reusable straw and using a plastic straw so they are able to drink it is so not ok. I understand that no one should bash people for not using a reusable straw but most abled people don’t have to use a straw to drink and they have the option to not use one to be able to drink.
sip also some disabled people already have lots of things they absolutely need to function so a reusable straw isn’t their main priority
@@meredithdickinson6958 Ah, I understand that point of view. I completely agree that judging or bashing others isn't okay. Disabled or not, I think it's wrong to judge others just trying to make it through the day. I try not to judge, but I do think making the effort is important. Is it possible for me to urge people to make an effort without being insensitive to people's abilities or issues?
I also agree with Skylar that people are really selective as to the changes they make for the environment or even their political stances. If you judge people for using plastic straws while constantly buying things with plastic packaging yourself, you aren't really one to talk.
Anyway, I think I slightly misunderstood what the op was saying, but thanks for clearing it up!
Skyler calling out ableism surrounding straw bans just made my day!!! It’s exhausting to fight for my daughters ability to drink.
FYI Sierra-disabled is more widely accepted & generally preferred over handicapped-no shade just giving the info. Language is something that I was very wrong about and ableist myself even after having a disabled child until I started following disabled activists so I don’t want to shame just share what I’ve learned.

ABSOLUTELY agree on the opinion of women not being treated like princesses! Relationships are partnerships. Everyone should be treated WELL, but not better than the other partner. It should be balanced!

From someone who is just graduating with their bachelors degree and still isn’t sure what they want to do next, that college advice is the best I’ve heard. I wish I had of explored more careers before going into college.

My biggest issue with the straw law in California is that fast food establishments are exempt. When they are the places that use & go through the most straws.
I liked the discussion of the nontraditional life path. I finished my bachelors degree at 24. I dropped out for a semester and came back. I just moved out of my parents house a year ago. Finally in a committed relationship. My boyfriend is 30 and doesnt have a degree. He repairs arcade equipment. Nothing is set. Like do what makes you happy and dont compare to others.

Topic for a future podcast... your experiences switching to Charter Schools.. what led to you both changing to Charter Schools.. do you feel like you missed out on things (examples: running for student council, prom, sports, clubs, etc) what do you think you gained from the experience.. how exactly they worked.. etc. Would be very interesting! Thanks!
As someone with a small channel as well as whoever called in, I really appreciated the advice and reminder especially about the experimenting with different content (which I never even really considered that larger channels are kind of stuck in one place). That like if one week I want to do a reaction video or a Magic Kingdom vlog or painting a jean jacket, that I can kind of do whatever they want.
I also completely agree with Skylar, that while it's a small step in the right direction, cutting out straws is all someone does while doing worse things is kind of ineffective. Like there was a quote I saw that was like we don't need 10 people saving the environment perfectly but rather 100,000 doing it imperfectly. Like while trying to reduce plastic consumption is great there are bigger more dense single-use plastic that is worse than a straw and we should focus as much energy into that as the whole straw "movement.":
With the whole straw thing, I think that restaurants should not automatically put them in the cups or put them on the table and instead offer them per request. This would help at least reduce plastic straw usage. But I think that if it’s just there, more people would use it and if it’s not, less people would ask for it.

I really appreciated the discussion on relationships and college. What bothers me personally is when people imply that bc a certain path worked for them, it should work for everyone. As someone who received a bachelors and could not work in my career field without it, it bothers me when people (especially UA-camrs) imply that bc college wasn’t the right decision for them that it’s the wrong decision for everyone and is never necessary. I appreciate that this was not implied! Love you both 🧡

I loved the ending with the UA-cam-motivation. I posted videos before too but felt never really happy because I couldn´t find a way to feel comfortable with myself. I made the mistake to make videos about beauty and fashion even though this aren´t topics I loved. But it was popular so I started with this to get more viewers.
But the opposite happened. I got rarely audience and the ones I get "hated" me because I sound bored and not so into it. That´s why I stopped the videos and deleted them.
I had a huge break after this and now I´m thinking about to make videos again. But this time I want to do something what I love. I think if you love the topic you are doing, then it´s the best for you and everyone who is watching you ♥
I relate to Skylar so much on being sensitive/caring for others. I find the people in my life being more like Sierra because we balance each other out. This podcast is great, love you both!

I know this doesn’t really relate to anything said here, but I think you should reupload your “You are NOT a number on a scale” it was the first video I watched from you, but it changed my perspective on my body and I have been able to be more grateful and happy with it. I believe many more could be touched like how I was

i completely agree with skylar. a lot of the people need straws, and JUST using reusable straws but still using plastic bags and other things, using reusable straws doesn't do much at all. i think those people need to do more if they can if they're going to "promote" being enviormentaly friendly.
I agree so much with the straws! I get it not using straws will make a difference but you need to do more than that! It's hard for me to be super environmentally friendly because I'm still a teenager and I don't do my own shopping or make my own food. But if you are able to, you need to do more than not use a straw because it's not all about the turtles. It's about all of us, animals included!
