5:20 get a crt monitor and a set a camera up to snap pictures in quick succession. Clone the monitor and use the UFO tester so you can have a constant point of reference. You can then have a solid reference on how far behind the monitor is.
Tek Syndicate Your right it was just the sentences didn't make any sense around the part you talked about it. But I was right then, you didn't know it was IPS to start with?
4k resolution packed into a 24" monitor? Dang! Not to be a peasant or anything, but can you even tell the difference between 1440p and 2160p on a 24" screen? I'm sure somebody can, but perhaps not me.
Why helo it is I Jimbles Notronbo Yeah with your nose touching the screen... (OK, that's maybe a little exaggerated but you get the point I'm trying to make here...)
The P2415Q gets 60Hz on a single stream while the UP2414Q uses a tiled panel workaround because the tcon used in it can't handle 4K 60Hz on a single stream.
Sharp 32" PNK321 vs ASUS ProArt PA328Q I am video editor and I am editing 6k 5k and 4k daily on a Windows workstation. Looking for a dual monitor setup. Which one is better in my case?
Great video! Just have a question..When your monitor goes on sleep, does the power button's blink not smooth? It seems like it's a jagged blink...if you see it hopefully you know what I mean.
god knows when i would have a pc capable running games at 4k but one thing i wanted to know running games at 1080p on 4k monitors are there any issues with that ?. I plan to wait till the adaptive sync/free sync monitors come out at the end of the year though
This is what you could build to test latency: --- you just need at least 1 optical sensor and the keyboard or the mouse library for arduino. --- For the real world latency testing: Basically when you're in a game the USB-connected arduino sends a command like to press "left arrow key" and the arduino starts logging data from an optical sensor that's taped to the monitor. Make sure that stepping aside in that game does significantly change the color for the pixel you're measuring. And if you put the logged into a graph or so you could see how long it takes and what kind of other things (like pwm pulses) are happening. By connecting multiple sensors you could see differences between the top and bottom of the screen. --- For a more synthetic latency testing: Make a really small and completely white image in paint hold your mouse above something like an invert-colour button or so and again let the Arduino click and log. --- optical sensor+oscilloscope could give you and idea about refresh rates and possibly unevenness of refresh rates, because of cheap hardware or g-sync. you can keep is simple
I have a question: since it's a 24" 4K display, when it comes to gaming, are features like anti-aliasing really still required to get sharp textures? Pushing fluid frames on any 4K display would take some serious horsepower, but if you don't need anti-aliasing, it would make it that much better.
I have a 24 inch TV and I use a laptop for EXTREMELY light gaming and when I change the resolution to 1080p all the fonts look small and icons and such look washed out or I can see individual pixels. Why is this when I bought it it advertised 1080p?
It really is though Tom. If text is too small to read, the desktop is unusable. I spend 90% of my time on the desktop. 4K is more ready in gaming than it is on the desktop. Even then though, you lose a lot of support from legacy titles by going to 4K and those are titles I like to play. The value is still at 1440p.
***** I do not actually, by choice. I bought a 1440p monitor as I said. As Linus has said, it is perfect PPI to real estate. You get much better panel quality right now at 1440p too. It's a mature technology. Yup, OSX in particular is amazing at scaling. It's a really good OS, but of course only likes Apple hardware and has a tiny selection of games. Linux varies widely depending on distro, but yes, it's pretty good at scaling too.
Take a look at Korean monitors as well. TN vs IPS though I'd take the 1440p IPS any day. This 24" monitor is too small to be useful at 4K realistically. Useful sizes for 4K start at 27 inches in my eyes. Personally, I want a 32 inch 4K IPS monitor when I do go there. And you know how expensive that is right now and even THEN the panels still aren't as good as 1440p ones.
Could you try to film the game like a part in the campaign like a cinematic and film it at like 1000fps if you have that technology and then test it on various monitors
I use a 24" ProArt Asus for my pro photo editing, would you consider Dell UP2414Q as a 2nd screen for my work? Color currency needed, i don't game. Thanks
guys i want a 4k monitor but with a really slim outline because i want to make a 4k surround setup and i hate that freaking stinky large outline it drives me crazy..
I got the Asus PB287Q and I haven't looked beck. totally love this monitor, was just a little miffed it didn't come with a cable to connect to the display port 1.2.
I just now realize how much I appreciate that tek syndicate doesn't do the "please like fav and sub" or "dollar shave club is great" type of stuff like folks such as linus do... when Ill have an easy way to give my money through the internets Ill throw a few bucks to support them.
Kingdom Of Mog Well Tek Syndicate does sponsor ads from time to time as well, but they are not as obnoxious as others. Eli the computer guys is another example of understandable commercials.
I loved the stand on the 2713HM I had for about a week, shame it was a terrible monitor plagued with problems. My LG 27EA83-D doesn't have nearly as nice a stand but the panel quality difference is night and day. No horrible cross hatched matte coating, no yellowing, some noticeable IPS glow and backlight bleed in darkness but nothing too bad.
Oh a 4K IPS monitor at 60 Hz .... nice! Unfortunately for me I can't afford this monitor or the hardware to run it but nice to see better 4K stuff coming out.
If you play any twitch multi-player games then forget any 4K monitors, you'll pull your hair out or you'll constantly be yelling at your monitor regretting ever penny you just spent. My personal experiences with any Dell monitor is that there's way too much input lag issues. Also a *4K 24"* IMHO is crazy; I have a Dell 27" 2560x1440 and everything is almost too small. At some point I'll purchase a 4K but I seriously doubt anything smaller than 32" and probably more like 36" or larger computer monitor.
maybe not on 24" 1080p, but on big screen tvs, having 4k running 1080p is still much nicer simple due to denser pixels. I just want better contrast, if this gives me better contrast, i'm in.
Guys, buy the new Benq GW2765HT WQHD 1440p gaming monitor, got it on amazon for 440 bucks and it's an ips monitor with 4ms gtg. Just bought it today, monitor will come tomorrow. It probably will only run at 60hz, but an ips monitor at 1440p, and only 400 bucks.... worth it anyway everyday
I bought the Acer K242HQK. Had to send it back, it was flickering and random graphics errors. I know it was not my computer because I tested it with another source. The same thing. So I'm buying this Dell monitor instead.
Why ? I myself hate to look at 1080p 24 inch monitors , and nearly want to throw up when looking at 27 inch 1080p monitors (ppi is lower than 100 on 27 inch 1080p !) 1440p is standard right now and 2160p is high end.
I think I'll wait until graphics cards can actually drive a game at 4K, would just seem like a waste of money until that can happen. Maybe VFX people would like this though. Could you guys do a couple game demos with your best rig to see how it works?
No? So I can run games at windowed 1080p and have plenty of extra screen space. I don't see much point in having a small 4k monitor, you end up having to upscale everything
People thinking of using this on a retina Macbook pro: it's great. Just get the P2415Q (cheaper) and be sure your macbook is a late 2013 model. I run this monitor in "best for retina" resolution, so 1920x1020. but with retina sharpness and it's amazing. Runs perfectly at 60hz.
What an odd review, note for future use...don't shoot a video where the majority of your face is hidden behind a stack of monitors. It's not very professional and it just looks ridiculous.
I think I will skip 1440 and 1600p and wait for 4k 60hz IPS to go down in price. I think I would pay $400 for one, it'll be awhile probably. For now my 23" IPS 1080 is fine.
If you're willing, the Korean 1440p displays are a nice step up. I have the X-Star and have nothing but good things to say about it. I think it was about $350 shipped. Sick profile pic by the way.
Yeah but I still enjoy 1080 and I think that 4k will come down in price before too long. When I shell out that much for a monitor I would like to be able to play 4k when I am ready. Plus I only have a single 7970ghz a the moment so 4k is slightly out of reach for me. Ditto on the pic haha.
5:04 Did Wendell say that he had a silph scope?! We need to get to the lavender town pokemon tower like now!
Those backgrounds you were browsing through... Where did you get them??
Dat crazy pixel density.
5:20 get a crt monitor and a set a camera up to snap pictures in quick succession. Clone the monitor and use the UFO tester so you can have a constant point of reference. You can then have a solid reference on how far behind the monitor is.
Dell says this is a IPS panel tho? you talk about it like its not IPS? Did I miss something?
I thought we edited that out?! link to the time. The manual for this monitor said it was TN... but it is actually IPS.
Tek Syndicate 9:29
Tek Syndicate Your right it was just the sentences didn't make any sense around the part you talked about it. But I was right then, you didn't know it was IPS to start with?
Random cut to Opeth's Famine at 2:21. Best song on Heritage!
4k resolution packed into a 24" monitor? Dang!
Not to be a peasant or anything, but can you even tell the difference between 1440p and 2160p on a 24" screen? I'm sure somebody can, but perhaps not me.
Not somebody. Everyone can. You too. It's a much higher resolution than 1440p even on a 24" monitor.
Why helo it is I Jimbles Notronbo Yeah with your nose touching the screen...
(OK, that's maybe a little exaggerated but you get the point I'm trying to make here...)
I'm fine with my 27" 1440p X-Star for now. It's a nice balance between looks and usability with games.
Aunt Jemima
I second that. Mine is beautiful.
Aunt Jemima I third that! and that price!
Did I miss the MSI GS60 review or something ??? 00:01
Doesn't Linus have a device to measure the input lag?
We don't speak about Linux over here, outlander.
Zooty The Duck
I mean Linus Sebastian from Linustechtipps
Zooty The Duck What do you mean we don't talk about Linux? We have a dedicated board for it.
I meant Linus. Not Linux.
yearofthelinuxdesktop
Zooty The Duck quite sure we talk about linus here too :P
But I mean, Wendell might be able to build something better.
what is the difference between this (up2414q) and p2415q monitors?
The P2415Q gets 60Hz on a single stream while the UP2414Q uses a tiled panel workaround because the tcon used in it can't handle 4K 60Hz on a single stream.
The UP2414Q is also a wide-gamut monitor, the P2415Q isn't.
GlenwingKyros
so for everyday use, it doesn't matter which i get, because 2414 is about $400 more expensive than 2415
***** Yeah not really. Just get the P2415Q, it's an improved model unless you need the wide gamut.
GlenwingKyros What does wide gamut give you? Sharper colour contrast for graphics work?
With anti-aliasing turned off, can you notice the jaggies on this monitor sitting 2 feet away? I think AA would be overkill for 4k at this size.
2:21 Opeth - Heritage album cover. Obviously Logan has an excellent taste in music. :)
What no nose touch panel? What good is it at that distance then?

The intro alone earned this video a "like" from me.

This still a good monitor? Is on amazon for less than $450. Just wondering?
Do I see Star Citizen videos in the background/glam shots?
Are there any 4K monitors out there with good refresh rates for gaming?
I have a question: since it's a 24" 4K display, when it comes to gaming, are features like anti-aliasing really still required to get sharp textures? Pushing fluid frames on any 4K display would take some serious horsepower, but if you don't need anti-aliasing, it would make it that much better.
Two websites, portrait mode, reading spreadsheets??? Bet it would have to be as close as an Oculas to read that.
Watching a video about a 4K monitor, UA-cam auto sets the resolution to 360p.
Why isn't there any VGA input on that? We all need some VGA.
How much it all cost?
I have a 24 inch TV and I use a laptop for EXTREMELY light gaming and when I change the resolution to 1080p all the fonts look small and icons and such look washed out or I can see individual pixels. Why is this when I bought it it advertised 1080p?
it's too early for 4k, people should wait two or three years.
Only to early for gaming on 4k really, but for productivity as ***** says 'It's never to early for higher resolutions'
OCGameR No, on Windows it really is. As they're saying, scaling is horrible.
It really is though Tom. If text is too small to read, the desktop is unusable. I spend 90% of my time on the desktop. 4K is more ready in gaming than it is on the desktop. Even then though, you lose a lot of support from legacy titles by going to 4K and those are titles I like to play.

On screens that small the difference between 1080p and 4K is hardly noticeable. You need a huge screen to really see the difference.
Finally! thank you been waiting for a good reviewer to check this out! all the other youtube ones are pretty bad.
Is that a corsair k70. If it is, how are the leds blue?
Ok, Thankyou
i want there to be more options for 24" 4k i wanna get one to add to my setup but 28" is too big :(
Could you try to film the game like a part in the campaign like a cinematic and film it at like 1000fps if you have that technology and then test it on various monitors
I use a 24" ProArt Asus for my pro photo editing, would you consider Dell UP2414Q as a 2nd screen for my work? Color currency needed, i don't game.

guys i want a 4k monitor but with a really slim outline because i want to make a 4k surround setup and i hate that freaking stinky large outline it drives me crazy..
PPI is too high unless you'll be sitting 2 inches from the screen. I have 27" 2160x1440 and I can't see individual pixels.
you need a gtx 780 up to play games at any decent fps or graphics being turned up way to early for 4k when gpu's cant really keep up
Listening to Opeth's Heritage?
24" 4K is insane, way too small. I would consider 32" the absolute minimum for 4K.
Ideally I would want a 42 or 47" monitor for 4K.
you can get them brand new on ebay for 450. i just sold one earlier today. the monitor is nice but it really is overkill for me.
Display Port Display POINT! Great review!
A few months later and I've got a p2715q 60Hz 4k for about $650 AUD...
2:20 OPETH baby!!
So any reason in particular why that other guy hides behind his computer
I got the Asus PB287Q and I haven't looked beck. totally love this monitor, was just a little miffed it didn't come with a cable to connect to the display port 1.2.
Talk to Jayz2cents about borrowing his new camera. Get all the monitors you want to test on Wendell's monitor arms in super slow-mo
I just now realize how much I appreciate that tek syndicate doesn't do the "please like fav and sub" or "dollar shave club is great" type of stuff like folks such as linus do...
when Ill have an easy way to give my money through the internets Ill throw a few bucks to support them.
thats the way Linus makes his living, for him and his company. Advertisement is what companies like him have to do
***** I meant I have trouble putting money online right now. As soon as i get to figure it out imma throw some dollars in that jar.
Kingdom Of Mog Well Tek Syndicate does sponsor ads from time to time as well, but they are not as obnoxious as others. Eli the computer guys is another example of understandable commercials.
MrRayne911
they are paying for 2 people to live, linus has a whole company going
Kingdom Of Mog I know that, so what? I understand the reason, it doesn't mean I dont appreciate Tek Syndicate more for not going the same route.
Yeah I sore that Opeth album cover, visited many orchards lately???
I loved the stand on the 2713HM I had for about a week, shame it was a terrible monitor plagued with problems.
My LG 27EA83-D doesn't have nearly as nice a stand but the panel quality difference is night and day. No horrible cross hatched matte coating, no yellowing, some noticeable IPS glow and backlight bleed in darkness but nothing too bad.
Wendell's face is back to normal :o
Might upgrade one of my current Ultrasharps for the 4K version then, lovely for graphic design :)
this baby is what I've been waiting for as it seems! 24" oh yeah
Heritage by Opeth is an amazing album.
Make this a 28" and I'm sold!
yeah tipical ips with low contrast. it should be under 600$
Oh a 4K IPS monitor at 60 Hz .... nice!
Unfortunately for me I can't afford this monitor or the hardware to run it but nice to see better 4K stuff coming out.
Yes, that density. Goddamn.

what's wrong with a 24" ?
displayport point one
I hope Opeth comes back to Australia soon.
Why does Wendel even have a mic? You don't see him
I wish they refreshed such model with such resolution. 24 inch and 4k or even higher. We would finally stop seeing pixels and ugly fonts !
Which game is He playing?
K70?
maybe not on 24" 1080p, but on big screen tvs, having 4k running 1080p is still much nicer simple due to denser pixels. I just want better contrast, if this gives me better contrast, i'm in.
You can get this for £355 on Amazon UK
Guys, buy the new Benq GW2765HT WQHD 1440p gaming monitor, got it on amazon for 440 bucks and it's an ips monitor with 4ms gtg. Just bought it today, monitor will come tomorrow. It probably will only run at 60hz, but an ips monitor at 1440p, and only 400 bucks.... worth it anyway everyday
and it's 27 inch
oh god the pixel density....so good...............
Can someone explain tek syndicate to me?
Are they in different buildings, why is the other dude behind a monitor
lurk more...
I feel like 24 inches is a bit small for 4k.
I bought the Acer K242HQK. Had to send it back, it was flickering and random graphics errors. I know it was not my computer because I tested it with another source. The same thing. So I'm buying this Dell monitor instead.
I think I'm going to throw up with how dense the pixels are and how clear and sharp the image looks(my frind has one of these) 😖
Why ? I myself hate to look at 1080p 24 inch monitors , and nearly want to throw up when looking at 27 inch 1080p monitors (ppi is lower than 100 on 27 inch 1080p !) 1440p is standard right now and 2160p is high end.

i like your wallpaper in ur monitor
I'm waiting for some 4k 39" panels
You mean tv's?
Basically.
So you can play games from 20 feet away
No? So I can run games at windowed 1080p and have plenty of extra screen space. I don't see much point in having a small 4k monitor, you end up having to upscale everything

The Cinema Nut totally agreed... What's up with that?? Weird to look at...
U guys seen the new Asus ROG PCI express SSD
I really wish it had HDR
would buy...possibly if I had two R9 295x2s....
290x should be good for 4k
Joe Barbaro uh noo
Joe Barbaro No way.
I realy like the sidekick Wendall er what ever...Silly joes you fellas are!
Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti (not black) vs EVGA Geforce GTX 705 ti ftw? need your inputs before i buy my gpu.
neither. get an r9 270 for the same price and way better performance and 2 free games.
from witch manufacturer
Malcolm Woodbury cheapest non-reference cooler with a 3 year warranty
***** but you can get these two graphics card for only 120$ on NewEgg. Yes, it's the Ti version.
That's probably why he asked.
i also need one that supports sli bridge
i will def wait for 4k, probably by about time when win9 comes out
You're a genius Wendell and I love you but a 4x doubling of 1080p is 5431 x 3055 :)
You dont buy this 4k monitor for real estate but for high PPI with x2 pixel scaling. Unfortunately you can only use this with Macs.
Fuck yeah, Opeth!
was that opeth that flashed on the screen. heritage
Nice Opeth easter egg.
24inch is a silly size for 4k resolution, for normal DPI it should be 32inch really.
Teksyndicate has a monitor fetish :)
Good to see some star citizen :P
2:19 Mikael Akerfeldt
Waiting for a 24" 1440p, IPS, 120-144hz with 1ms

OPETH HERITAGE I SAW THAT
What's with the dude hiding behind the monitor?
My monitor is 16ms and clearly I don't even know what ghosting looks like
