What about the horse riding a Gundam? Imagine if more animal riding their own Gundam 😁. This show has great potential to attract kids with it's imagination, which is almost laughable, but beautiful in it's own. Personally I like G Gundam too. I was waiting for more 'out of the box" Gundam. Like what will "United Nations" Gundam will be?🤔😏😁
@@breakingbasha thanks a lot for you. Now I know there is a hope. A Gundam for every animal there is. Praise God Gundam (Sorry, dude, it's kami, a different kind of God with your Monotheistic God), may it's fingers forever shining.
I think its important to mention that G Gundam came out when Street Fighter II was at its peak of influence and popularity. Hence the Gundams were all from different caricatured countries and engaged in one on one martial arts battles. Just goes to show how popular Street Fighter II was that Gundam had to get in on it too!
G Gundam did so well in America in my opinion because it didn’t try to hard. The story line was in your face, very easy to understand, and the unique design and detail of the characters, their Gundams, and the locations made every episode a joy to watch. The gundams weren’t merely tools of war in the future century. They’re expressions of culture and extensions of the pilot. Shit like that is timeless to me. G Gundam lowkey is the best in the series. 08th MS team is fire too though 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've never seen gundam before and my dad is obsessed with it, so we decided to watch g gundam together since its his favorite and i freaking love it, were on ep 30 and I get excited going into every ep, its so great I love the over the top stuff and it just makes me laugh, I cant wait to watch the other gundam series. And now that were watching it wherever we go I yell out to him SHININH FINGERS!!!!
I think the thing I appreciate the most about G Gundam is how well it nailed the motifs Hong Kong style action films while still mostly being about a bunch of dudes in giant robots trashing recognizable landmarks and each other. Plus, some of the story beats are so earnestly goofy that it's hard not to smile even while your brain's yelling "this is *so* stupid". Easily my favorite Gundam series.
G Gundam is also noteworthy for the STUNNING quality of its background and environmental art. This and environmentalist themes in general are pretty common in works by Yasuhiro Imagawa, and if you like the general motif of 'outlandish kung fu nonsense played completely deadpan serious,' definitely check out his other famous mecha project, Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still. Also it's one of my favorite Gundam shows and favorite super robot shows of all times, it's just an absolute hoot start to finish.
Imagawa is great, it's a goddamn shame he doesn't get more writer+director work, though I imagine some of that stems from his complete inability to not go completely extra with the production.
@@ZorakGoesOn Yeah, 'colossal budget overrun' is sort of an... Issue that Imagawa tends to have. He made all of G Gundam inbetween chunks of the Giant Robo OVA simply because he completely ran out of funding, and IIRC took on G Gundam partially to secure more. Still took years to finish, too.
God G-Gundam is so good. I really need to watch it with my friends who kinda want to get into mecha anime, since they'd all love it. No spoilers of course, but the way it ends is... basically perfect for it's themes.
As a Hongkonger G Gundam is very special to me It contains a lot of our cultural elements, and Sunrise even created a cantonese soundtrack in this anime. In the darkest hours of HK, it reminds me of the golden age of my home city
G Gundam and Gundam Wing were my first introductions to the Gundam franchise. I adored both, but Gundam Wing has an edge for so many reasons. I'm so pumped to see your video on it. It's not only my favorite Gundam series, but my family series in general.
You nailed what made it work. G Gundam was campy, ridiculous and downright absurd at times. But it never shied away from it. You never had the characters making light of it or giving a sideways look to the camera. For THEM, this was just how their world worked, and they were all in on it. The voice work was a key component on this factor, as the VAs gave it their all, despite how ridiculously silly the very premise of the show was. This allowed you to still tell deep and meaningful stories that revolve around a guy who can destroy building sized mechs with a piece of cloth! The characters accept it, and so it's just another piece of what makes the world so incredible. Kicking a skyscraper out of the ground? OK, I guess we're doing this now!
G Gundam has the single best executed romance plot in any fiction I've consumed. No, not 'any anime' or 'any novel', any fiction, in any format. Yeah, it's that good. That plot is also the B-plot of the entire series. It's bloody amazing how well done that show really is.

G Gundam is what got me into the series way back when. I remember watching it on Toonami every Saturday night and loving it. It's absolutely ridiculous and the furthest thing from what Gundam generally is but I still love it as much as any other Gundam series and it will always be one of the most nostalgic things to me. Also the first opening has firmly burned itself into my brain because it was so damn good.
Something to point out here is Tomino himself was the one who encouraged Imagawa to go in and completely challenge what Gundam had been up to that point. Tomino's experiences working on Victory had left him dealing with severe depression and he was disillusioned towards the franchise as a whole, calling it a curse on Sunrise's animators and creators that they'd never escape. When Imagawa got the job he told him to make the show something that spoke to his own passions, like Imagawa's love for professional wrestling and martial arts.
While G Gundam wasn't my first Gundam series, it is definitely my favorite. Something about its nature just pulls me towards it and never lets me go. I just love it so much.
I love G Gundam, like I like tournament arcs in Dragon Ball. They are fun to watch and they visually are awesome. But I do love me the UC lore and drama. I like the rivalries more in UC then I like the rivalries in G Gundam or DBZ.
G Gundam was my all time favorite series 2nd was wing. but when i watched Unicorn gundam, i started the UC series (and also the side stories) from the start up until the recent continuation of UC series.. (narrative, hathaway)
I have this show to thank getting my dad into Gundam. I had been trying to get him into it for awhile but we wasn’t interested. However, I had just gotten the old Bandai dvds for cheep back before RightStuf got the rights to the franchise and we just randomly decided to watch it together. He’s been a fan ever since.
G Gundam dominated my pre teen years and now that I'm older I'm getting that nostalgic bug to reconnect with that, finding this whole world of gundam again in an age of streaming. So yea I'm going down a rabbit whole.
I liked G gundam as a Kid watching the fights and screams. About 20 years later I have even more appreciation for the series and am glad a faithful blu ray release was made.
For me its the best gundam series not only from the power of nostalgia but it’s one of the few animes I could watch again and again. It has such heart and sure the story is simple and linear but the emotions are complex enough and driving change you can see through the cheesy dialogue and goofy story a genuine personal growth through challenges. For as crazy as this might sound watching this as an adult changed my perspective on challenges, especially when it comes to emotions. I know putting this out on the internet has plenty of opportunities for criticism or someone saying I’m lesser because of how or that it took so long to learn but being neurodivergent (a fancy way of saying I have adhd in a society that doesn’t fully understand the challenges) I found myself expecting others to think and feel in a specific way when everyone might communicate their emotions in a different way. You would think that having the difficulties with fitting into society in that way would be obvious but this show taught me real empathy and understanding that just because they don’t say something doesn’t mean they don’t feel a way. Anyways long story short an amazing anime that stands out so much among the rest
G Gundam is unironically my favourite Gundam series. It's so earnest about its over-the-top action, stereotypes so ludicrous they loop back into being cool (Chibodee Crocket makes me proud to be an American, dammit!), and homages to the general tone of martial arts flicks. I'll never forget that time that Domon and Master Asia kicked a skyscraper into orbit (while one of them had a broken leg) as Cantonese pop music played in the background and they were being attacked by Gundam snakes.
G Gundam was what I looked forward to for a while coming home from school. However, back then I didn't realize the difference between Super Robots and Real Robots and why I preferred 08th MS Team to it and also why I enjoyed Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann for other reasons. Now, the only thing about G Gundam I appreciate is the unique style of cockpit it presented: The Mobile Trace System, which took away specialized military pilot training to be replaced by martial artists/veteran soldiers. Think about it. That style of interactive cockpit would mean you could take any high-performing soldier off of infantry duty and put them in a Mobile Suit. The wasted potential spin-offs haunts me.
“Absurd but Serious.” Sounds like how I would describe Jojo. ^_^ In all honesty I loved this show as a kid. I grew up watching it on Saturdays, and I would get so frustrated for having missed an episode.
I love G Gundam because it’s different from other Gundam series. I wish they could’ve made a 2nd season to G Gundam. I have been a fan of Gundam franchise since it started coming on Toonami when I was younger.
I love G-Gundam, Wing Gundam and G Gundam both premiered when I was a child on Toonami and because of how terrible TV was where i lived. Most often i'd catch an episode of Wing and then an episode of G Gundam sometime down the road. They might have even re-ran the show's together, i'm not sure, i was 6 at the time. What i do know is that ever since then i'd loved Giant Robot's and it wasn't until several year's later i got reintroduced into Gundam as a franchise with Gundam 00. I remember having a massive crush on Rain, i remember mimicing Domon more than once. As a kid, and as an introduction not just to a Franchise but a Genre, it definitely is one of those ones that i'd suggest, even with the Over the Top nature and lots of screaming I'd argue that Gundam has always been a little Over The Top and Dramatic. At it's core, Gundam is a Drama Show with Giant Robots and i love it.
I remember watching Gundam wing as my first time watching as kid but when I got to my teenage years I think it in my was high school year when I stumble upon G Gundam on UA-cam and watch all the episode.... I felt in love with the series so much it was so awesome and I felt that it inspired me in so many ways I couldn’t describe it in all honestly it inspired to train me in curtain martial arts but now as I’m older I still keep the series in my heart til this very day and I still wish they would make another series out of G Gundam G Gundam Forever!
I love G Gundam. I'm also a fan of how this world has all but ended war. Iron blooded orphans it's so hard wrenching that I can't bring myself to enjoy it. I much prefer the pacing as well as emotional impact that G Gundam brought
It was my first gundam series growing up on toonami. I couldn’t get enough of it! I remember seeing the regular show reference it when my youngest brother was watching it and I was surprised lol
G gundam has a special place in my heart. When I was a child this was the best thing I've ever seen.. but when I got older I kind of hated it but I still love it
G Gundam was the very first Gundam Anime series I ever saw & Was the series that introduced me to Gundam. I remember watching the series when it aired on Toonami back in 2002, I was only 7 at the time; But the line up of it at the time was quite memorable with not just G Gundam, But also the Majin Buu Saga Of DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin & Transformers Armada. I know that as of 2020 that was 18 years ago, But i Remember it Like As If It were only Yesterday. Those were simpler times back then, Good Times, Good-Good Times.
G-Gundam is unironically my favorite Gundam AU. I like the og UC series, don't get me wrong, and I totally understand why its so divisive. G-Gundam is really more or less unique compared to the other series. There is a fantastic, sometimes hilarious, creativity in the different gundams and the fights are hotblooded battles. Same reason I like Build Fighters too.
would you believe that this series was the first Gundam anything I've ever saw and I thought the whole thing was Crock-Pot nuts I kept wondering "why do people watch this?"
Love G-Gundam; great combination of goofy and sincere, and it always has new surprises in store. Very easy to recommend on its own. And yeah def check out Kuvo and co.'s companion podcast on it.
Every day I would come home from school and religiously video tape each episode of G Gundam off of Toonami, and then would watch the videos again later on. The honest absurdity of it all really showcases what anime could be, and it's so hard not to get so wrapped up in it.
I love g gundam but I can't find all the episodes I only got to see episodes 1-20 that's all I wanted more of it where can I get the rest episodes does anyone knows 😭
The irony as he was talking about Gundams business model to sell merchandise right as my friend is messaging me about the new Gunpla figures he bought and had shipped over from Japan before it was released in the US.
The first time I've heard and saw about these "Karate Gundams" was in sd gundam games. Would've never thought gundams like these exist... just like the Turn A gundam, Its so bizarre.
I never watched G Gundam nearly as much as Gundam Wing and I'm not a die hard Gundam fan. Likely bad time slot in my area but it was definitely cool watching those Gundams move faster than Transformers did.
G Gundam reminds me alot of Last Jedi in the way it went against the norm of the gundam franchise and polarized the audience. And in my the same way as Last Jedi I love G Gundam for its differences and fresh takes on a story. Its my favourite of the franchise.
I'm a chinese so... I love it damn much, especially for the horse riding part. This house even gives you second life in some srws like srwa. Those absurd names alone mean much to me like master asian 东方不败, the horse 风云再起, the silver kicking guy 天剑绝刀. They are all based on novels or movies. Very weird but in a fun way.
My favorite Gundam series is Gundam G but one of my favorites childhood anime is Gundam G back then shonen action is popular like Dragon ball, yuyu Hakusho HxH BTX etch, the unique move I ever saw in Gundam G shining finger i use to copy when I play with my friends before Back then I got a theory when I was a kid that BTX and Gundam G is same author because they look similar story, and similar move like messiah fist and shining finger, to me I love Gundam G
It’s a series that was set in the heads of kids playing action figures. Which is using kung fu mechas to have some tournament using nation representatives as their mechas. An alternative to actual conflicts. Instead of sending thousands to millions of soldiers and young people to die for the bitter old men’s interests, it’s using mechas to fight against other in fighting tournaments which allows their home nations to rule the human space government for four years.

I loved the voice actor for Domon. When he gives a speech it's great.
the only gundam that isn't really tiring to watch lol.
Something that you didn't mention is the amazing soundtrack the series has. G Gundam is by far my favorite Gundam series next to Gundam 00.
There’s something about G-Gundam that makes me keep thinking about it. I’ve been thinking for years and can’t put my finger on it.
would you believe that this series was the first Gundam anything I've ever saw and I thought the whole thing was Crock-Pot nuts I kept wondering "why do people watch this?"
It makes sense when you consider it was made as a breather after the grimdark Mobile Suit Victory Gundam a year prior.
g gundam is one of my favorites. I love all the UC stuff but G Gundam is just too good to ignore.
Love G-Gundam; great combination of goofy and sincere, and it always has new surprises in store. Very easy to recommend on its own. And yeah def check out Kuvo and co.'s companion podcast on it.
G Gundam was my first anime and I absolutely love it
man i wish they would release shows in the G gundam universe.
The gundam fights are still going after the series ends.
I love G Gundam & I wish the reboot was out.
Ahh G Gundam. The only gundam show where pilots can defeat a mobile suit with their bare hands.
The irony as he was talking about Gundams business model to sell merchandise right as my friend is messaging me about the new Gunpla figures he bought and had shipped over from Japan before it was released in the US.
My absolute favorite Gundam series (seriously)
G was my first Gundam
I have loved the franchise ever since
My favorite of all Gundam series!!
Me burning my hand while washing dishes: “THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED!”
The first time I've heard and saw about these "Karate Gundams" was in sd gundam games.
Would've never thought gundams like these exist... just like the Turn A gundam, Its so bizarre.
Actually, without G Gundam, we might not have Gundam now
I once heard G-Gundam described as "Really stupid, but in the best kind of way" and honestly, it works pretty well.
One of my favorite Gundam series of all time.
G Gundam is the best.
This is an amazing show this was the first gundam show I saw and the rest is history
What if we get a sequel to G-Gundam?
I'm a chinese so... I love it damn much, especially for the horse riding part. This house even gives you second life in some srws like srwa.
Those absurd names alone mean much to me like master asian 东方不败, the horse 风云再起, the silver kicking guy 天剑绝刀. They are all based on novels or movies. Very weird but in a fun way.
My favorite Gundam series is Gundam G but one of my favorites childhood anime is Gundam G back then shonen action is popular like Dragon ball, yuyu Hakusho HxH BTX etch, the unique move I ever saw in Gundam G shining finger i use to copy when I play with my friends before
Back then I got a theory when I was a kid that BTX and Gundam G is same author because they look similar story, and similar move like messiah fist and shining finger, to me I love Gundam G
I used to love this when I was a kid. I forget what it's about tho
G Gundam was awsome
It’s a series that was set in the heads of kids playing action figures. Which is using kung fu mechas to have some tournament using nation representatives as their mechas. An alternative to actual conflicts. Instead of sending thousands to millions of soldiers and young people to die for the bitter old men’s interests, it’s using mechas to fight against other in fighting tournaments which allows their home nations to rule the human space government for four years.
"What is G-Gundam?"
The only acceptable answer is "MY LOVE, MY ANGER, AND ALL OF MY SORROW"
I’ve only watch g gundam and I loved it I’m not really into other series
And now it's got people like me quoting it.
THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED.
From what little I've seen I love it
G Gundam is where the writers threw caution, powerscaling, dramatic atmosphere, and sense to the wind
this was my introduction to gundam...
My older brother is not a gundam fan but loves g gundam
Imagawa has always been a madman with a wuxia fetish. He really knows how to do cool martial arts shit.
I loved this Gundam series so much. I have trouble getting into another one. Does anyone recommend anything that can even come close to this?
You may prefer other works by the director, Yasuhiro Imagawa. Giant Robo, Shin Mazinger, or Tetsujin 28 (2003) are similar.
The Mobile Suit Gundam movie Compilation.
