I thank the good Lord of music that I was alive during the Tom Petty era.
From what I understand he was a better human being than a musician and he was a hell of a musician. RIP .
Amen
Beautiful man, beautiful soul. He's beloved not only for all this incredible music but for the down to earth sweet caring man he was.
@@oceanview5545 fair. And true.
I can't imagine my life not having Tom's music in it. R.I.P Tom
Yes agree
Me neither!!!
Golden Rose. Beautiful.
great post...Though he was a real sharp guy, there's no way that TP knew how much he meant to hundreds of thousands of fans around the world. He made the world a better place and still does, and likely always will. Not bad for a kid from Gainesville. Godspeed, Charlie T.
indeed
Now he knows how beloved he is. Such a beautiful soul.
The one and only Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Genuine article.
I love the way he tells a story!! FRom the first time i heard him back in 1978 his music has helped me celebrate lifes special moments as well as heal from the moments when life knocked me down !! I miss him still!
simply put greatest lyrical poet to have ever lived! rip old friend!
Agree
Listening to this playing live a lot of good things stand out. One of them is Scott’s backing vocals delivered perfectly!
I AGREE
Really awesome how they play this, if u close your eyes, you hear the CD tracks
“The Golden Rose” another song first time I heard was further convinced of Tom Petty’s legacy and fortunate he was able to share his gift with us for so many years.
Tom Petty’s music will live on forever.....
Tom Petty will live in our hearts forever..Been over 1 year, I still cry , losing Tom.

this was playing in the background and I had no idea it was live.
One of my favorite TP songs. Wish he had toured S Africa. Would love to have seen him and the Heartbreakers.
Love TP! Rocking until the end. Irreplaceable. True musician. Rare talent. Forever missed...So many songs that really so simply and beautifully express all aspects of life and emotion. He is my all time favorite musician.
Yep...I absolutely love Guns N Roses and Metallica...but Tom and the Heartbreakers are alone at the top
His voice sounds great- I ❤ Love this album, God I love them all. Great songs 🎵, great songwriter, singer, musician, band leader. Tom did exactly what he was supposed to do with his Life, and we are all eternally grateful. RIP Tom❤
Just a great musician that I will truly miss RIP tom
God bless Tom Petty. ❤️

It took a long time to get back here! Rock on Miss You Tom!
So nice..awwww❤
He seemed so sad......pure emotion.....touching.
As always, typically TP & Co. All I need.
TOM PETTY FAMOSO JUNTO A GEORGE HARRISON, ROY ORBISON, BOB DILAN, MUY BUENA MÚSICA NOS DEJÓ.
3:35: Tom sez "Genius. That was just genius." He nailed it. Tight as a drum John Lee Hooker rhythm with great melody and lyrics. Age 56 and kickin butt like they were just opening up a can of beer. Genius.
Mike's slide guitar work is amazing too! That man is genius with that thing...
thought he was talking to Mike, looking in his direction - well deserved praise
@@nicstunes yeah, could be, would certainly fit.
Flirting with Time was my #1 favorite for a while. Freaking love it. I wish we had a clip of him playing it.
Just pure Beauty. So comforting to the soul. Thank you so much for sharing. Deep from within Toms soul. Pure poetry from pure emotion.
Best Ever...Luv You Tom Petty
Ty for all of your awsome music...R.I.P 😇😇😇
This is so beautiful it takes my breath away.
SO glad I found this. I was the LD for these videos. Tom and his entire band & crew were great to work with. This was shot at Malibu PAC (no longer there) for AOL Sessions. Have been a huge fan of TP for decades....and I deeply miss him knowing he went way before he was done playing music.
And we all know abbv. specific to particular lines of work...Lame Dude
@@ameerordimly1449that was kind of funny, but more mean, really. But I too was wondering what 'LD' means.

Thank you Allyn. Some I've heard and some not but all great songs by Petty. Miss him always. Have to buy the Highway Companion for sure!!
Playing like Lyndsey.... only other person I've seen do that.... such a beautiful song
Thanks for sharing unbelievable band.
My mother, not musical at all, asked me one time (only) how people could remember the lyrics and the music to songs. And I looked at her absolutely incredulously. I said, "well when you write a song and you also write the music with your group, you don't forget it." And she still looked at me like I was speaking Greek... either you get it or you don't.
Love this
Thank you Allyn. This man, this band, have provided the soundtrack for my life.

Hey thanks as always, Allyn, for yet another great video. How do you find these things?! I'm grateful as can be that you do, but it always amazes me how some people just have a way of constantly unearthing these buried chestnuts. Highway Companion is one of my favorite TP albums, in the top six, I think, and it's nice to hear a handful of the songs performed live. Good God, I miss him. Bowie and Petty - I still can't fully fathom that they're both gone. They both meant so much to me; they were so integral to not only my youth but my entire LIFE! Makes me feel so mortal, so vulnerable, so... impermanent.
Hey Allyn, Tricia mentioned that there's a documentary on the making of Mojo. Do you know anything about it? Might you be able to do that voodoo you do so well and conjure up that video? That would be fantastic. I'm jonesing to see it now that I know of it.
Thanks again, Allyn! We all appreciate SO MUCH!!!!
It's up on Tom Petty's UA-cam channel. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/FOJeUhUz70E/v-deo.html
Thank you for this great video. Love him so much!
Thank you again, Allyn!
Rockstars! Yeah! But sooo much more than that! Elite Musicians Songwriters , poets and performers! Everyone else should just give up. The bar has been set so far above your head. You will need a Rocket!
Sorry I meant 5 great tracks !
Uno de los mejores músicos del mundo terraquio por siempre
Why is Tom shaking maracas so funny to me 😂😂 I'm littarally in hysterics what?!
god bless tom petty!!!!
Ah Saving Grace! One of those songs that sounds as though it’s always been there. Really suits the slightly lower timbre of Tom’s mature voice. Great selection of songs Allyn..were they all broadcast together for something? Confused as Tom wears different clothes but Mike is in the same shirt.
"One of those songs that sounds as though it's always been there." I completely agree, Tricia. Good call. Spoken like a true music/Tom Petty aficionado. For me, Highway Companion was the last album that had that classic jangly Byrdsian twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar sound.
I thought Mojo was fairly decent but it didn't sound much like TP&THB, more like TP&THB doing The Allman Brothers, and frankly, if I want to listen to The Allman Brothers, I'll play The Allman Brothers (and I don't have any of their albums, if that tells you anything about how much I like them.) Hypnotic Eye had better songs (and some of the fiercest playing of their lives) was a step back towards their more classic TP&THB sound, but it still had a goodly size dollop of Mojo's sound. I wonder what their next album would have sounded like had Tom not passed on.... All in all, though, Tom passed away on a high note. His creative juices had been flowing pretty darn well those last ten or so years.
TVC15ohoh S’funny because I’m struggling with some of the same feelings. Having watched a lot of video footage of TPATH lately I certainly appreciate the raw energy and purity of the earlier albums and the younger TP especially in performance. BUT there’s no doubt that the musicianship and depth of the band improved out of the court and TPs vocals and melodies also became more polished despite the smoking! He always said that he was out to improve and he certainly carried on doing that. Another BUT I loved Mojo and play it often. Yes it could be another band but it’s relaxed and flows. Have you seen the documentary on making it? I have Allmann Bros vinyl and went to see them in 1970 something at Knebworth. Didn’t keep up with their later output tho, but loved them then. I think I share some of their root influences being the same age and in the U.K. the younger band was more about sharp, short classic rock tracks. Later it had to expand the hold the musicianship of Mike and Ben. I think that’s why TP carried on doing covers to keep in touch with the early emotions. I think we’d be getting studio albums and solo output That might have been genius but possibly not so much rock n roll in the true sense. Loved Hypnotic Eye but that was some years ago even before Toms death. Thanks for your reply x
No, I haven't seen the documentary about the making of Mojo. I did, however, meet Greg Allman (and a couple of other members of the band) when I videotaped him (and the others) at a deposition in L.A. back in the early '00's. He was very pleasant if not a bit plain and worn around the edges. I remember nothing about the lawsuit and whether he (and the band) were the plaintiffs or defendants, but during a break I asked him if he had seen the episode of The Simpsons where the band was mentioned. He said he hadn't so I explained that the Simpsons had gone to Africa for some reason and at one point they were dancing to the music of some tribe and Marge said, "Gee, Homie, this music just goes on and on forever!" and Homer replied excitedly, "Yeah Marge, they're just like The Allman Brothers!!!" He and everyone else laughed (and yeah, I told the joke doing Marge and Homer's voices.) That was a neat moment.
Hypnotic Eye came out in July 2014 and Tom passed in October 2017.
Weird thing about that day: it was the day after the Las Vegas massacre and my abdomen was racked with tension. I just had this horrible, terrible, icky feeling that something bad had happened but initially attributed it to hearing about the shooting earlier that morning. But the feeling persisted and I said to my husband, "This is one of those days when you find out some bit of really bad news and you remember where you were when you found out." And no more than 45 minutes later, as I was looking at some news reports on my cell phone, there it was, a headline about Tom Petty being found unconscious and not breathing. "Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no this is not good this is not good" I said out loud, panicking. I knew right away he'd suffered from cardiac arrest and that even if he survived, he'd be a vegetable. Fuck, it makes me emotional retelling this; I'm blinking back tears, or trying to.
But it was weird how I knew something was up and whatever that something was, it was NOT good. I just knew. I ascertained that George Harrison had died while I was sleeping, too. I was dreaming and all of the sudden I just KNEW that he had passed. "Oh my God, George Harrison just died!" I heard myself think to myself as I slept. The realization startled me so much, the dream turned into a lucid dream, meaning I "woke up" within the dream but continued to dream and I wondered how I knew that he had died. It wasn't a hunch or a feeling - I KNEW, period, as if I'd seen it on TV. So I went back to sleep and when I woke up the next morning, I turned on the TV and lo and behold, there it was, George Harrison had died. How I sometimes know these things I can't explain, but I am a very intuitive person and others have told me I'm probably an Empath.
Weird, huh? That ever happen to you?
TVC15ohoh .. thank you for your reply. How awful for you. I have had some small experience of these things but not in this case. My daughter phoned me and told me to sit down. I was so upset I had to hang up. Eight months later and I am still in mourning. I feel emotional about George too especially when watching In A Material World which is the doc about GH. There are fantastic bits of interview from Tom in that. It is actually a better film than Running Down A Dream sadly but I am grateful to Peter Bogdanovich for such a comprehensive collection of material. X
Thanks, Tricia, but I'm not really sure what it is you're referring to when you said, "How awful for you." What's awful for me? Being able to sometimes sense stuff that logically I shouldn't be aware of?

Hi thanks for all the great videos. But your latest one live in Hammersmith message pops up video unavailable?
That's due to copyright issues. Should be fixed now.
Allyn Kessler Thanks! It's ok now!
Thanks a Bunch, rhymes with Mudcrunge, kinda. I can't get any volume on my stupid Computer. Perhaps I may need a weed bit of help. How do you like the new Band Mike is playing with? Mic and the group are coming to Toronto later in the year and it would cost me over 2K for my Wife and 2 kids to go see the Show. Mr. Petty wrote songs about that kinda shit.
Yeah, The Last DJ (an often overlooked album in Petty's canon) addresses how the "business" part of the "music business" has sadly and frustratingly overtaken the "music" part. And yeah, Mike Campbell is now part of Fleetwood Mac. Almost sorta makes sense, seeing that Stevie Nicks told Tom that she was willing to leave FM in order to join TP&THB. What goes around comes around, eh?
I Love this Live stuff. Looks like the Boys are in Tom's own studio. I better tune up and play along. Great tempo. Love Saving Grace😎
Always liked mudcruch farmparties
Did you ever think Tom & Co would get so big Robert? What rare awesome memories you’re blessed with. Always looking for posts from you guys from back in the day- old friends, fans, classmates, etc from the ole Gainesville days.
Does he have a tracheotomy scar?
