    Paul Simon always looked like a literary type. He studied English at college. That's why his lyrics are so rich.

    "what were you doing in England, going to school?'
    Paul Simon ' I was hearing the drizzle of the rain, gazing from my window to the streets below, writing songs that voices never heard', that kind of thing, you know.

    Hello I've been a Simon Garfunkel fan for 20 years. I liked it since high school, but I still like it now. But every time I listen to the Simon Garfunkel song, I am really surprised. The reason is so great. People around me have seen a lot of people who don't understand what they like Simon Garfunkel to me. Still, I love Simon Garfunkel. As a musician, I've also heard all of Paul Simon Art's Garfunkel solo albums. My English is weak, so I turn it up with Google Translate. hope you understand. Korean youth Song Ho-wook

    It's very touching how S & G can lay a tribute to Dylan like that with no ego except to lift him high and deliver the song like they are less than him ...

    Quite good things were made in 1966. Not just me, born May 1st at my parent's home. Even if Labour Day finally became April 30th, because my parents discovered that they would receive child support for the whole month of April, even if a child was born the last day of the month. And since my father didn't earn that much, May 1st around 2 in the morning became April 30th, almost midnight.... Creativity is a thing that comes in many shapes !

    They performed on the Mike Douglas Show at KYW-TV's studio in Philadelphia. I know that studio as my dad worked at the station for many years and would take me there sometimes. It was a small set in the basement of an office building, 1719 Walnut Street to be exact. I was about 5 at the time of this performance - too young to appreciate S&G then though in another few years I surely did!

      You Can Tell The World was one of the folk songs they recorded for the first album which was mentioned. "Wednesday Morning 3AM" with the original version of Sounds of Silence has always been a favorite of mine - with some early songs of Paul's that show you how great a writer he was early on.

    • @jonnnyl9567

      You Can Tell The World was really an old Gibson & Camp song. Along with the Everly Brothers, Gibson & Camp were the biggest harmony influencers of S&G (in my view). S&G copied a lot of Gibson & Camp's song. Have a listen to Gibson & Camp live at the Gate of Horn and you'll see why many consider it one of the most influential folk albums of all time

    Notice they chose to perform the original acoustic version of "Sound Of Silence" even though there is a drummer and bass player behind them who could have performed the added instrumentation like the hit single. Also note almost all the Mike Douglas performances are usually live, not lip synced. Or a singer will perform "live to track" (sing live to the instrumental mix of their hit song). Done when it's not feasible to fly in an entire band or backing musicians.

    • @stepno
      @stepno 28 днів тому

      Since the other instruments on the hit single were added by producer Tom Wilson without their knowledge, maybe they didn't even have arrangements to give the show's studio band... or maybe they just preferred it that way. Sounds great here!

I am equally amazed at them doing Dylan as part of their set. By 1966 Paul Simon had written a number of songs so you'd think they'd have featured his brilliant songwriting. An engineer gave Sounds of Silence The Byrds treatment by adding an electric guitar. Wonder if Simon had heard the new version on the radio instead of seeing at the top of the charts he would have thrown a fit about artistic integrity not wanting to sell out folk?

    • @mikeaudette2823
      @mikeaudette2823 4 роки тому +3

      It was producer Tom Wilson who overdubbed a whole band (the guys who were recording with Bob Dylan on Like A Rolling Stone). Simon and Garfunkel never sold out their artistic integrity, as evidenced by the fact that they never toured with a band (despite repeated pressures from the record company) until 1969 in support of their last studio album.
