David Draiman has been truly blessed. He was actually trained by his grandfather to become a Jewish Cantor. Grandpa disowned him for years when he pursued his dream of being a metal singer. Every song that they do has meaning. Absolutely love them. As I said earlier, check out A Reason To Fight. Hold Onto Memories is a tear jearker, The Light is powerful. But any song they do is AMAZING.

David Draiman..... a powerful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back , which goes straight through you to your very soul! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful. Loved your reaction and your take on the video Travis......David can make you cry or give you goosebumps or BOTH! His voice goes right through you! Thanks! again Travis.

The shocked look on your face when the strong vocal fry came in....that was priceless. I'm sure all of your fans who have seen the music video were waiting for the same. Great reaction as always Travis. Keep them coming. Their version of Land of Confusion by Genesis is also brilliant!

A lot of people miss the images and message. I think both S&G and Disturbed are saying music censorship (by the music industry's timid concern for the dollar) is keeping important words and music from the people and it must stop. The sun rising at the end offers hope.

Disturbed completely owned this. Paul Simon complimented them himself for their cover. David Draiman is a phenomenal singer. I'm a big Disturbed fan. Depends on if you like harder sounding music or ballad types they do it all "hold on to memories" "indestructible" "the night" ask for more if ya want I can keep naming them lol have a great day

I can't begin to say how many times I've seen this video, both by itself and watching bunches of reactors ... reacting. I am one of the apparently few who prefer it over the live Conan performance. Reason one, David was sick when he did the Conan take, and while he was still wonderful, I could hear it. Reason two, I figure when someone puts this much creativity and effort into producing a music video this meaningful, it needs to be seen.
At the start of verse two, you hear the first guitar chord, and it's a beautiful but oddly discordant collection of notes. It grabs me by the ears Every. Single. Time. I don't know why - it's just ... so beautiful and in keeping with the meaning of the song.
I grew up when this song was new, and loved the Simon & Garfunkle version. I still believe it's one of the finest pieces of poetry Simon ever wrote, and most of his stuff from those days is just packed with deep meaning. (Try "Patterns" for some deep thinking) Disturbed ramped up the intensity by a thousand. Then PTX came along and gave us another version to love. If you listen to all three, you might agree with me that PTX actually covered the Disturbed version, not the original. There's several note progressions that convince me of that.
I literally can't choose between them, Disturbed vs. Pentatonix. Both are incredible. I've been a Pentaholic since I found them, and this is the only thing Disturbed has done that I've heard, as I've never been much into Metal. I can't say enough good things about this video - it's just gorgeous. Happily, I don't actually have to choose. :)

The tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released this classic song of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today, actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing the many channels and each of their reactions and 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation. Thank you so much for your reaction, that was wonderful! Another poster to a reactor once said, there are three versions of this song. The original, S&G, was a warning of what would happen. Disturbed's version is because we didn't listen to the warning. Pentatonix's version gives hope that we can still heed the warning.

Love this! Disturbed captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any version I've heard, cover or original. The raw power and deep emotion in David Draiman's voice is amazing. I loved this song when it first came out from Simon & Garfunkel, and I love both the Disturbed and Pentatonix covers for very different reasons. I do give Disturbed the slight edge, though, because of the aforementioned darkness of the presentation.

It's not just that he was sick during the live performance. Because of his illness the show's producers made the decision to put auto-tune on his mic, further diluting his sound. What's worse is that they did it without his knowledge or permission, probably knowing that he would refuse it if they had asked since he famously hates auto-tune and NEVER uses it in the studio.

Thank you for your comments, I loved your reaction to this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul (okay so I'm 74). This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones.

His voice is so incredible. Classically trained! Since Disturbed is a metal band, he didn’t show this much color very often in their early music, so this video clotheslined me the first time I saw it. I didn’t expect such a nuanced story from his voice, but damn if he doesn’t bring it! The mix of that restrained gentleness ramping up to his signature rasp and belt is breathtaking.
And the video!!! On one side of the water, the wandering, compositionless musicians - on the other, the writers with no voices, no instruments. They board a boat and bridge the gap so the silence can be broken and music can be brought forth. A different message than the original Simon & Garfunkel sentiment, but no less striking.
As for their music in general, I don’t know if metal is your thing, but some of my favorites from their older stuff are Ten Thousand Fists, Enough, The Night, and Inside the Fire. The album this song is from (“Immortalized”) is newer and features a slightly different sound, generally softer and more nuanced, seasoned, and optimistic. That whole album is excellent, honestly, (standouts for me are The Light and You’re Mine) but that’s just my taste! ✌🏼

Disturbed is one of the best bands out there, and David Draiman is one of the best vocalists in existence. It's been mentioned by others, but I really think you would love their ballad, Hold On To Memories. It's a beautiful and powerful video as well. The Light is another wonderful ballad. Some of their heavier stuff, which is what they're more known for, that I would suggest: The Vengeful One (my favorite!), Stricken, Down With the Sickness, Land of Confusion (a Genesis cover), heck...the entire Ten Thousand Fists album. Also, an ABSOLUTE MUST, A Reason to Fight (official live video); specifically that version (have your tissues ready and let the words sink in).
I got distracted before I could comment on your video where you talked about making some changes. Just wanted to say that we're all on a journey. Every journey has bumps, dips and valleys, and it's difficult to find our way out of them sometimes. But realizing that changes need to be made is the first step in you improving your journey on higher ground. I hope you know that you have a TON of people who support you in your journey, no matter where it takes you. You bring a ray of sunshine into our lives every day, so we are here for you every step of the way. I wish you the best of luck and every bit of happiness. Looking forward to an update. Take care of yourself, Travis, and just know that if you're doing and being your best, then that's good enough. Much love!

Other than being trained by his grandfather to become a Jewish cantor, he was also trained classically. I grew up listening to this by Simon and Garfunkel. Then it was my favorite song. This version as far as I'm concerned is the best ever. Even better than the original. Disturbed is a metal band as you know and I'm sure somewhere in the comments someone suggested this but you should listen to Down with the sickness to hear what they really sound like. You should react to it as you are watching it for the first time.

This is a departure from their normal style, which is much harder. However, due to his technique and tone, even the harder stuff is melodic and understandable under the distortion. The lyrics are usually meaningful, as well, if you're paying attention. A few more that are closer to this style:
"If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" - a cover of Sting's song with a gorgeous, artistic video done in a similar style to this one.
"A Reason To Fight" - another gorgeous video and something you might appreciate at this time of your life while you're struggling a bit.
"Hold Onto Memories" - either of the two official videos or there's an exclusive live performance that's very moving.
Maybe start with one of those. You'll be hooked and back for more, finding yourself drawn to the harder style, as well, because of the tremendous musicianship of the band and David Draiman.

You should also check out "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" which is a cover of Sting's 1994 Grammy winning song for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. It was released in 2020 after they had to cancel their tour, but it's almost like a commentary of the pandemic even though the lyrics are from 1993. Please PLEASE give it a listen, you'll get the best of both worlds: metal Disturbed and ballad Disturbed.

Like others comments, I will also recommend their song/mv The Light. Would love to see your reaction to Super Junior's Burn the Floor performance video (it was pre-release to their The Renaissance album and features two teaser audio clips before the actual Burn the Floor performance begins).

I get chills every time I watch this video and listen to their version of this song. One of the top 3 covers of all time, I'd say. (My other two are Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt and Pentatonix's cover of The Prayer.) Such a magnificent arrangement and melding of lyrics, music, and David Draiman's voice. And I really love the use of the drum in this arrangement. Absolutely fantastic.

Been a fan of this band since 2008, they've gotten me through rough times. ALOT of their stuff is incredible. Sometimes unsettling, usually dark. But some favs are The Night, The Animal, You're Mine... I could go on about their discography.

David Draiman has an amazing voice! I’m a big Disturbed fan and always loved the heavy metal side (Down with the Sickness is probably their most popular) but I love this side of his voice. I recommend their song Hold On to Memories. It’s an incredible song, the original video is beautiful and the LIVE version is great too. Another song, The Light…so so good.
