  • Prepping for a new Chia Storage Hard Dive Crypto mining setup. Today I am building out the needed hardware for me to begin setting up a CHIA Storage Crypto storage mining rig. Unlike Bitcoin other crypto currencies can do functions like act an token or in the case of CHIA, use unused hard drive storage on your PC as a rig to store data as a service.
    In this video I am covering the key reconfiguration needs in detail for setting up the server / and SAS disk groups so I can get the most for my hard drive functions. Once done I will then setup the CHIA node software and test this out. I may be rebuilding the server configuration to better meet the CHIA requirements over time for the best results but it is fun do it so no issues.

      Well, I am mining other coin so costs this time is not key and the CHIA network teams will tell you at the beginning it is not about profit... (Yet) it about learning the process and building to fit the mining requirements. I got a Dell R720xd (hold 26 drives by itself.) with some disks for about $450.00 I am storage architect as my day job so I already owned two NetApp DS-2246 arrays, (I love these arrays) with the 4 GB of require RAM for plot you need a lot of RAM so I am working with 112 GB for now. Xeon normal rated CPU are good for the management of the plots. so just under $1k counting my SAS and SSD disks I am using. I am using the Oracle F40 400GB SSD PCI-e cards (2 of them) for my SSD needs. They are the on the motherboard bus so the work better then SATA SSD drives. You only need a up to 1TB for your temp SSD drive needs. If not it will take up to 12 hours to make a single plot. with the SSD drive it take less time to make them an if you have 700GB or better you can built two plot at once using the dual parl. mode. Hope this helps...
      You can do it on the cost level but I would invest a little more so you can scale out over time...

    good video, what cable to connect a NETAPP DS2246 (IOM6) to a poweredge R610 (perc H800) to use Truenas and manage the disks...?

    • @leadiususa7394
      @leadiususa7394  Рік тому

      It depends on your HBA or RAID controller. First check to see if you have a mini SAS connector or a SAS connector on the controller side of things. The DS-2246 should have a SAS connector. Then get the correct external cable set that you need. Just use one cable for now to have a single path. It gets weird when you use dual pathway fail-over.

      @@dad2979 Oh yes, you can use SATA and SAS drives in the same array but pay to what I was saying about mixing these drives. Look at the DS 2246 and you will see four groups of disk bays (These are four channels). Keep each type of drive with it its on group and you will get a good response / performance. Group them together and not so much... I would just make each drive a stand alone drive (RAID0) and use them that way. Don't forget your SSD for temp building but don't use SSD drives to farm. Hello I am very interested in mining this...I know nothing about mining .. I have a 6- 8k budget I want to try to mine 100 plots... can you send me a link of all the equipment I need to achieve this...and how to run it?

    • @leadiususa7394
      @leadiususa7394  3 роки тому

      Well start with CHIA.NET to know the specs. Look in the forum. Next get a reuse Dell R720xd or R720. (They can do up to 726GB of RAM.) It can hold a lot of SAS function plus with the XD series, you start off with 26 2.5 SAS disks. 24 in the front and two in the back.. Next get a LSI external dual or quad port controller. A dual will work fine. Next you some SAS NetApp DS 2246 disk arrays with SAS back end controllers. Next buy some 600GB or higher SAS disks. 1TB work well. You can have three plots on a single 1TB drive. Lastly you need a 1TB SSD drive to act as your temp drive to build out plots. You don't boot off the SSD but build with it. I used two a Oracle F40 400GB SSD PCI-E cards to be me what I needed. Each disk array will hold 24 2.5 drives. Build as you go. It will take about 20 days to do 100 plots. So for RAM it is 4gb a plot (I am working with 112 GB of Ram so I can only do 25 plots. and for CPU, go with med. levels CPUs to run everything. You can get the Dell server for around $400. RAM and disks will be most of your cost. SO maybe shot for 50 plots then grow from there. I will send you some links...

      What OS & RAID config are you running on the R720xd? RAID 1? and RAID 0 across all disks on the R720xd? or have you setup just plotting to individual disk? as some misconceptions out there saying RAID 0 config is weaker and best to farm in parallel per disk individual disk. Much appreciated.

    Chia is proof of space-time, not proof of replication. There are no useful data in those plot files, and the network doesn't even know about them. It's just math inside. The plot requires 256GB (260GB to be safe) of temp space to generate. Happy farming!

    • @leadiususa7394
      @leadiususa7394  3 роки тому

      Agreed, the data that comes over is temp only but does replicate (Not so valuable) files to stage the plot. For now I am only doing one plot but this system can do up 40 plots if I follow the 256GB model but I was thinking something later that would be bigger. I am playing...
