Why we are moving to using PC's, personal servers and now PD's
Yep, that is right, we and now feeling the hard push for everyone to buy only PD devices. What PD's Personal devices that only really do one thing, access the internet. You having a personal PC mean no profit for those company's that want you top depend on them for everything like Apple does with its product. This is becoming more more as we see less and less real powerful PC like hardware out there to use or buy. Yes, this is a war between those that wish to stay independent and those that want us to not be so independent for there is no profit in it for them, as in they taking your funds for their profit. It is sad... We can have both and over time it will re balance out but still, what a pain in my eyes. Enjoy!

    My personal opinion as IT-Professional: Personal Devices are a godsend for corporate IT. You can force your users to use ONLY specified Services and connections with their devices. And we all know, your general User is very much too uneducated and simple minded to handle a whole operating system. The Money on the other hand is quickly fixed , if you consider manufacturing large quantities for your corporate directly from factories. As this is of course only possible for bigger companies, smaller ones need to rely on vendors. I remember Apple offering a specific version of their SE2 to us, because we had a limit of 450,- for a singular device. Anything above that would've needed special approval. So we got the most barebones packaged SE2's without charger and any kind of booklet.

But when I install sg3 into centos and then use the sudo sg_scan command, only the drive where centos is installed appears, the sas drive is not recognized. Therefore I cannot use the command sg_format --format --size=512 /dev/drivename. Can you help me see where I'm wrong? Or do I have to use untubu?

      Setup the drive as a HBA or raid 0 as a single drive and then you should be able do it. Remember you need a true SAS controller (PCI or PCI-E) to see the drive for a motherboard will not see it.

      I depends on two things, the OS, (if you are going to use a server OS software vs. desktop OS.) and the way the 2-U rack mounted SMP system is configure. This is normally loaded with a base server OS and does a special task like encoding or some task MMX functions or off site ADS-DC server / controller but rarely is it used as a personal PC but don't use Window 11 on a system like this for your Desktop OS, Use Ubuntu desktop 22.04 instead for it will let you use all the features this system offers.

      @@leadiususa7394 I should elaborate a little. I have the 8200 2 node controllers, which provide both the fiber channel and iscsi capabilities, but I don't know what the 2 node controllers are for if the enclosures can be connected to a SAS HBA card directly. TL; DR: Most pc motherboards only support SATA storage and do not support SAS storage. This is a terrible video: You say confusing things such as "because the edge connector it is not detectable with a motherboard". Huh? Say it straight: SAS drives are not directly supported by desktop pc motherboards that only have SATA interfaces. You need an interface card and related cables and connectors. This stuff is not difficult to understand if you can just get to the actual point.

    Just ordered this system to upgrade my wainsview cameras I bought back in 2029. The ones I had were nice but they were cloud based so you couldn’t go back farther than two days without paying a subscription. This system also allows for remote viewing from an app and also has a subscription option in the app but if you have the main DVR you should be set. This was an extremely easy system to setup and while my dvr had a bad hard drive out of the box I messaged the company and they are sending me a new drive. Thankfully I had a spare laptop 1TB drive I threw in and formatted until the new drive arrives. Only negatives I had were the included mouse was almost worse than useless but I had an extra wireless mouse I threw on it, the only other downside is with my old cameras anytime I got a alert I could delete the clip but from the app and the actual dvr I don’t see that option but notice it’s the same dvr interface I have at my job and I’m thinking it’s probably a security feature that you can’t delete clips without wiping the whole HDD and that makes sense for businesses and stuff

    Those are still SSDs, just using the NVMe protocol instead of Sata, it's not some infinity speed magic, there is no such thing as infinity, they are not as fast as you make them sound. That 4x NVMe Card does not lower the performance of the drives, it just gives you the ability to plug 4 PCIe x4 devices into an x16 slot. RAID 5 or 6 is always gonna be slower than a RAID 10 or sometimes even RAID 1 because of the Parity calculations, this has nothing to do with the NVMe Protocol. It definitely makes sense to put more than 2 NVMe Drives in a RAID array, it still enhances the speed and storage capacity of the pool just like it does with any other device. And really, talking about fiber channel in 2024? Why do i even spend my time on this....

    • @leadiususa7394
      @leadiususa7394 Місяць тому

      I agree, it is the bus that get divided and the bus for PCI-E is limited so I am recommending (Like the old days of infinaband days and why II used that term for it is kind of funny.) to work with creating many buses so the data pipe road can handle 10, 20 or 80 NVMe drives in a true Disk array model. That is the real goal and also stop using SATA or SAS as the disk protocol plus better SMART handling. It is just a wish list mostly... Everything today is not there.

    You could kind of do that with directly connected PCIe lanes. Some HPC vendors are doing that at the rack level.

      Yep. But we need a new standard like PCI=E or USB so that we can have this on normal motherboard like PCI-E and other standards and isolate the bandwidth correctly so a new very high speed for doing NVMe in volume correctly just like we can do today with spinning disks. This will remove this bottleneck in the future relating to better using NVMe storage pools,

    Great video I wished I discovered a year earlier. Brought a big box of bulk SSD drives and got a few SAS drives that I didn't know what they were. Looks like SATA but could not connect them. I just put them into a little box and into a garage. Just earlier this week I found out that they are SAS. Unless I want to go through the hassle of getting a controller card and install into one of my computers, I might have to fork over $100 for one of the external SAS enclosures to test out the SAS.

    That setup really does look slick, been toying with doing the same. It's hard to find server stuff here in Canada since Tigerdirect and NCIX are gone and these mini PCs are so cheap on ebay it feels like a no brainer to go that route. I'm also toying with building a custom blade system that is hardware agnostic. The blades would basically house the mini PC, the power adapter, and maybe even have room for a couple hard drives. Basically a self contained unit that only needs AC power and network. This would allow me to easily mix models and grow the cluster over time and not worry that they might be different sizes. I don't really have any tools or knowledge of metal fab so I'd probably use wood, which is not really ideal... but I think it would be fine. The chassis would also handle the cooling, I'd have big fans on the back that suck air through the front of each blade.

      This great to hear. Can you use Ebay up there? 90% of my stuff is off of Ebay...

      @@leadiususa7394 Yeah problem is for big stuff like servers the shipping is usually completely ridiculous like hundreds, even seen thousands. But since these mini PCs are so small the shipping is usually more reasonable.
