I have 64tb lying around from an scprime rig that I stupidly never set up. Should I repurpose it for chia or go ahead and use it for what it was intended?
use a separate SSD to plot to and even with low ram, you can make plot in about 30 min. DO NOT use your boot drive to plot to. if you have even an old GPU like a 1070 or 1660, those will plot C18 GH plots in just a few minutes. Higher compression = faster and smaller plots. If you dont mind even a small investment, you can get an old ddr3 workstation with 256gb ram for like $300 and it will plot C18 GigaHorse plots in less than 3 minutes, Bladebit C7 plots in about 7 minutes. DDR3 memory for plotting is super fast. You do not need DDR4 ram. Use an old workstation, they are super cheap. The guy you are talking to is very misinformed, no one is spending $20k on plotting lol. Old ddr3 workstations are more than enough.
Awesome job with this video, Brynn! Loved all your edits, especially with the action shots and b-roll and huge shout out to Paul for giving us his insight! We love hearing from our community.
Is that SSD SC550 2TB temperature always 40 Celsius and NAND writes stuck on 3 GB? I have two or three of those and it seems temp sensor is fake/broken stuck on 40 and NAND writes stuck on 3 GB...
Excellent starter walk thru, really enjoyed and in fact, have just pulled out a pc from under the stairs to set up for Chia farming,,er,,plotting er...you know what I mean he he. Coupla comments below to help you with loadshedding ( or power theft as I know it) come from Cape Town now in the UK so I know what you are going thru. Also just ordered Tails Chia kit, should get to me here in the UK in about 4 weeks, hang in there boetie!!
Nice intro to basic Chia farmer setup. Unfortunate that you need so much disk to make any serious coin (pun intended) your next video might want to touch on plot file compression
I built a hpz620 w/256 gb ram and a 3060 all used for $500 C7 plots take 9-15 min in windows im told it could im told would be faster in lynix. DDR3 is way cheaper than DDR4
I haven't completely plotted - I am still downloading the remote plots. Once all HDDs are plotted, it estimates around 0.72 XCH per month - definitely not 0.1
Man I used to have about 1/4 PB of uncompressed plots I made with madmax a few years back. I recently redid my NAS with RAID6 and have about 100TB free and I'm just looking at the best way to do this now that GPUs and compressed plots are a thing and I can tell you this guy has no clue what he's talking about. This is not at all what I expect from Vosk's channel which I've been following since 2017. I guess I'll do research elsewhere😢
I mean I don't know if it's completed but I got things up and running even with the syncing going on in the background and I did the plot so it is plotting
@@VoskCoin Seems arduous and overtly time consuming while not being profitable kwh/asset distribution. The evergreen solutions seem slightly more viable than higher power consumption of a loaded-up PC and plotting your own drives. That said, I don't see the evergreen solutions being profitable without a major move in the unproven Coin asset. Laying-off 1/2 of staff isn't a good look either. Lots of downsides adding up against asset appreciation hope.

it is more profittable being a beggar rather than mining chia 😅

Are our old CHIA plots that were made when solo farming was a thing, still any good?
Yea still good.
@@Leafy_k Cool, thx.
you can only solo mine with those if you want pool mining then you need to replot
@@AtySUS I see. Thanks, man.
Dammit, Vosk! Giving me the itch to get back to my Chia farm! lol

You would think a nas would be good for a decentralized storage network but it’s not is it?

Thanks Mr Badger! Lol

What pool is Evergreen going to use after Flexpool shuts down in November?
Spacefarmers
Juseyminers use spacefarmers as well
Plain and Simple Walk through Good Job
Loved the video great idea on cloud plotting gets things up faster thanks man
Great vid vosk. This is a mining channel; look beyond the haters
So what benefit does chia bring to the table besides wasting valuable HDD space and energy?
What's the selling point here?
It was made because the other miners are speeding up the global warming chia wanted to make something that doesn't
Supposed to be a greener mining algo with scalable blockchain tech but up to you to decide if you find it interesting
You can set bios to restart after power failure. Setup Chia to autoload at boot.
Appreciate this tip! I'll take a look into it and probably update on it in the next update vid 👌
Or get a decent UPS that will kick in for the loadshedding ?? Mooiman!@@ItsBrynnB
Can I run this while simultaneously mining on nicehash with my other PC components?

Thank you. It’s something to play with.
you don't have to wait a few days for synchronization and just download a ready-made large file and paste it
I tried this and it didn't work
Learned this the hard way lol!
I been waiting over 2 weeks for the chia node to sync to the blockchain
I was waiting months before I gave up
you need ssd

do a little reasearch on chia, good luck on not loosing money

Glad you enjoyed it
.1 chia per month? Thats $2. Im sure the electrical costs are more than that
All he is paying for is 10 watts. 5WATTS per HD. His computer was on and already being used the whole time.
