The best review at the moment about this vehicle. I loved how you guys went in detail about the features of the XLE Premium and shows how the other trims features looks like. Very complete review!! I'm looking to get the XLE AWD Hybrid but I love the rims of the XLE Premium.
Two of my relatives have the 2019 XLE Premium model, I drove both of them, and the engine noise was the only complaint I said about both cars. I’m glad Toyota added a hood blanket to reduce the engine noise.
Warning: Battery issue. Own a 2020 Rav4 XLE (not a hybrid). After driving it for just under 2200 miles, the car wouldn’t start after sitting in the driveway for 3 days. Toyota road side service had to come to jumpstart it. Toyota dealer couldn’t find any problem. Some people suggested to turn off the automatic parking break since it worked and there was no more battery issue with their cars. Toyota needs to find this problem and recall all RAV4 to fix this issue. There is no need to turn off any features that come with the car. If the features come with the car, they need to work properly period.
Great review yall! I heard that Toyota corrected the loud engine noise by adding a hood blanket this year, the 2019 for some odd reason was missing it.
Excellent review! I can see why the RAV4 is such a fantastic crossover SUV, and the new Android Auto feature definitely makes it even better. In fact, I think the 2020 changes are hopefully going to boost sales of this vehicle, which is already a hot seller. You guys are the best and I love you and your videos. As always, keep up the great work, continue to push the envelope, and always do your best. 💗💗👍👍
I used to want a v6 but seeing how the hybrid is going to have 300 hp pushing with an electric motor while getting great gas mileage the V-6 is a thing of the past for me.
Why won't the windshield defogger button come on my 2020 rave4 LE after its set to come on when I start the engine to warm up and melt snow of the windshield the next day by using my remote key fob but it defaults to a slower fan speed instead of the full on defogger fan speed to melt ice an snow? All 2020 rav4s do this. Thanks. I'd very much appreciate your help. ✌
Thanks for another great review. On the loud Toyota engines, I agree with you. It feels like Toyota intentionally did this in many models, for reasons unknown. When I owned Toyotas, the engines always seemed too quiet. Perhaps the loudness is to make it seem more sporty. Not really sure. But the new RAV looks great in general.
@Brian My 2.5 Turbo Mazda is way quieter, and it has super high compression. You tend to hear the most noise out of the exhaust at idle on mine. It has a bass tone not heard in a lot of vehicles, which I attribute to the high compression.
Great video. You did a nice job covering most of the interior but I was hoping that you would have talked more about the safety systems. In particular, when you approached cross traffic in the video did the brakes automatically hold for two seconds? I appreciate you pointing out some of the shortcomings, one of which is the loud engine.
By far the best compact SUV currently available. The RAV4 looks rugged, handsome and classic that will never aged. More importantly, Toyota quality and legendary name will keep owners happy for years. Toyota dealers network and parts logistics is a unparalleled combination.
When you test drive one, there’s a lot of engine noise into the cabin. Those eight gears don’t shift smoothly. The gears stick and it was very noticeable to me.

Does this ones dynamic torque vectoring system make the clank clank clank noise when coming to a stop (noise can be heard around 18-20 mph while in the process of slowing down, and car’s windows must be down as you can’t hear the noise with the windows up). Thinking about leasing a car and it's been the RAV4 and the Honda CRV. The 2 major cons of the CRV...i'm hearing the infotainment system is dated...and that oil dilusion problem sounds like a major issue to me.
I bought a 2019 Rav4 the day after thanksgiving. The engine is loud. 8 speed transmission? If you even THINK of accelerating, it will downshift. It does ride nice and gets good gas mileage. And for me...NO turbo and NO CVT=winner! And it has dual injection..which will keep carbon from building up on the intake valves. I also considered the Hyundai Santa Fe, but was shocked at their poor gas mileage.

Corkfish1 As I said, I have RAV4 with AWD included convenience packaging in it. RAV4 AWD cost around 1500 dollars more than FWD. Convenient Packaging cost you around 1250 dollars extra that gives you power lift-gate and moonroof. You can save money by not buying convenience package. I had not choice because it was already there. If you want to save around 3000 dollars , you may want to buy RAV4 XLE FWD.
Sulav Sharma Engine noise is noticeable while accelerating from zero to 30-40 . The fan noise is significantly reduced from 2018 xle model. With music on, the noise is little less noticeable. But all this noise is an issue only while trying to accelerate from low speeds. After that it’s not noisy.
Oh ok, I got my wife the 2019 hybrid version and we always wondered what the blank slot was for. We never thought to look at the gas version for the answer. Thank you for answering this question.
I looked closely at the RAV 4 for the last year, and I get (and see) the Forerunner inspiration; but something reminds of the Pontiac Aztek. I can't get beyond that. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a RAV4. While 2019 brought a completely new generation RAV design, there's something about it that feels so dated. Maybe it's just me. Looking at the total cost of ownership over five years, it was an easy decision to go with the Kia Telluride. Granted, it's a different class...but just a better overall value with truly bold looks.
@@cfoster6804 Ok, that's cool--not everyone likes the same thing. I mean, the Telluride did garner the vaunted Triple Crown of vehicle awards; snaring the MotorTrend SUV of the Year, Car and Drive 10Best, and NACTY Utility Vehicle of the Year. I don't think it's just me, the consensus is industry-wide: KIA hit a homerun with the Telluride.
I test drove the AWD Adventure, man that this was super slow at accelerating. Also test drove the Hybrid XLE, was way faster accelerating. Love the design but it’s over priced.
@@samsaid9170 It's bad when competitors offer better drive trains though. Many have complained about how sluggish it is. Toyota could well do with a turbo model or a diesel like in the previous generation.
A billion dollar corporation like Toyota must find a way to get rid of that horribly loud engine noise. I won't even entertain buying one until they fix that AND the slipping transmission gears.
Android Auto? Finally Toyota. Do you know the reason why it took until 2020 for Toyota to use it? If it weren't for the loud engine that was beyond annoying on the test drive, this Toyota with 2019 XLE Premium trim would be in my garage.
Have you heard about the 1.5L turbo, direction injection Honda problem of oil dilution since 2017? It is on the comments and Honda lately will not recognize the fault.
Vincent Rolfe I have heard about it but it was mainly on 2017’s and early 18’s. 2019’s and 20’s are trouble free although I know many people who own 17’s and 18’s without any issues.
@@JJustinXu people get around 30MPG on the highway in the turbo CX-5 and way more with the non turbo! But if you do a ton of city driving then get a hybrid Rav4. I don't do much driving which is why I'd get a CX-5.
Korey Mayo My friend has a 2018 CX-5 and the mpg is the worst thing about the car. They need to improve the mpg. My friend usually averages about 20-25 mpg. Non turbo.
Without a diesel this is awful. The old one came in a 2.2 d4d at least in markets outside the US. Every other engine is lethargic and slow. The infotainment could also be better. I don't see why it sells so well. There's better options. Peugeot 3008, Citroen C5 Aircross, Mazda CX5 and VW Tiguan. The Peugeot 3008 in particular makes this interior look decades old.
The TRD off-road trim is an embarrassment to the TRD branding on the RAV4 hybrid... doesn't even offer metal bash plates to protect the underbelly. Loving my RAV4 hybrid, just wish the TRD was a little more TRD offering a rear locker, v6, etc. The TRD on the RAV4 doesn't seem to be much more than accessories... would prefer more hardware performance on the chassis.

Me too! Just bought a XLE Premium...but I kinda wish I could have one with black leather interior
I am also in the market for xle premium. Do u notice engine noise while music on ? What about wind noise ?
Sulav Sharma Engine noise is noticeable while accelerating from zero to 30-40 . The fan noise is significantly reduced from 2018 xle model. With music on, the noise is little less noticeable. But all this noise is an issue only while trying to accelerate from low speeds. After that it’s not noisy.
No cd player? Is it the same for the rav4 2019? Thanks.
the 2018 XLE had a cd, the 2017 platinum didn't have one, stopped in 2019. i want my CD !!
Just get spotify premium, it's 2019 almost 2020 people...
It has five USB ports, you don't need a CD player anymore!
Sport mode?
What does the the button with the Circle and A in the middle do?
Auto stop/start. Shuts the engine off when the car is stopped to save gas. Restarts as soon as the driver lets off the brake
Oh ok, I got my wife the 2019 hybrid version and we always wondered what the blank slot was for. We never thought to look at the gas version for the answer.
Thank you for answering this question.
I’m stuck between this or the CX-5 ☹️
they’re both amazing cars, i think the cx-5 looks more luxurious
I looked closely at the RAV 4 for the last year, and I get (and see) the Forerunner inspiration; but something reminds of the Pontiac Aztek. I can't get beyond that. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a RAV4. While 2019 brought a completely new generation RAV design, there's something about it that feels so dated. Maybe it's just me. Looking at the total cost of ownership over five years, it was an easy decision to go with the Kia Telluride. Granted, it's a different class...but just a better overall value with truly bold looks.
The Telluride is ugly!
Please review the TRD Off Road!!!!! Also please review Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and 4Runner in Army Green!!!!!!!!!
We are waiting for all these to start arriving soon!
which car feel better.. Subaru Forester Sport or Rav4??
Subaru
What about a look into the engine bay ???
.
I test drove the AWD Adventure, man that this was super slow at accelerating. Also test drove the Hybrid XLE, was way faster accelerating. Love the design but it’s over priced.
Kevin H you don’t really buy a RAV 4 for the acceleration
@@samsaid9170 It's bad when competitors offer better drive trains though. Many have complained about how sluggish it is. Toyota could well do with a turbo model or a diesel like in the previous generation.
Love your videos.
Toyota has done a great job. But the CRV rides and handles better in my opinion.
Thanks! 🙂
Good to know, thanx.
Still no passing moose test???
There is a UA-cam video of a 2019 RAV4 moose test done in Sweden - the car failed.
Waiting for it's comparison with CRV 2020 , especially the hybrid models.
We will be doing that as soon as 2020 CR-Vs start rolling out!
Great truck except for the front usb port. Fails to connect Android auto with several phone types. S20 ultra connects half the time.
Wish Toyota would just let us buy online like Tesla. Prices here are 3-4K above msrp i hate the long hours of haggling over a price
A billion dollar corporation like Toyota must find a way to get rid of that horribly loud engine noise. I won't even entertain buying one until they fix that AND the slipping transmission gears.
The thing with this engine is that the power doesn't come on till about 5k RPM.... One of the reasons it's loud.
Karreil2525 U FeEl tHaT VtEcH
There’s a half eaten pretzel on the drivers side floor 😂😂😂
I just wish the Toyota RAV4 had a better sound system, but I love the car.
I like the CRV cabinet better but the trans and 1.5 eliminate it. The engine tho sounds loud for stock.
That RAV4 Prime though! "R" stands for Rocket!
What u mean rocket
I own 2019, but it seems the 2020 engine still is in the noisy loud sound.
Yes, it's really noisy
No leather seats?
Listening to the engine when the transmission shifts, it sounds like a manual for some reason.
Android Auto? Finally Toyota. Do you know the reason why it took until 2020 for Toyota to use it? If it weren't for the loud engine that was beyond annoying on the test drive, this Toyota with 2019 XLE Premium trim would be in my garage.
How about the Moose test?
Loud Engine, Doors sound hollow when he pulls the door handle and Interior materials are sub-par. I’ll take a 2020 Honda CR-V any day over this.
The one with the butt ugly body...crv
My only choice car to buy.
I'd much rather have a Mazda CX-5!
Same! Cant wait for the 2020 Mazda CX-5, then people will be saying that's the best SUV.
Korey Mayo But the mpg is horrendous, such a joke.
@@aytugdemir1323 isn't the 2020 the same as the 2019 CX-5?
@@JJustinXu people get around 30MPG on the highway in the turbo CX-5 and way more with the non turbo! But if you do a ton of city driving then get a hybrid Rav4. I don't do much driving which is why I'd get a CX-5.
Korey Mayo My friend has a 2018 CX-5 and the mpg is the worst thing about the car. They need to improve the mpg. My friend usually averages about 20-25 mpg. Non turbo.
Excellent review
Without a diesel this is awful. The old one came in a 2.2 d4d at least in markets outside the US. Every other engine is lethargic and slow. The infotainment could also be better. I don't see why it sells so well. There's better options. Peugeot 3008, Citroen C5 Aircross, Mazda CX5 and VW Tiguan. The Peugeot 3008 in particular makes this interior look decades old.
I can't wait to see the new Rav4 PHEV that will be reveal on Nov 20th at the LA auto show! It's suppose to be the most powerfull Rav4!
Toyota looking good
The TRD off-road trim is an embarrassment to the TRD branding on the RAV4 hybrid... doesn't even offer metal bash plates to protect the underbelly. Loving my RAV4 hybrid, just wish the TRD was a little more TRD offering a rear locker, v6, etc. The TRD on the RAV4 doesn't seem to be much more than accessories... would prefer more hardware performance on the chassis.
If you complain about the noisy engine pay a little extra for the hybrid
No doubt it’s a good car
But hey fluid washer of Wind chill of back mirror is not working
It getting frozen in winter
They can’t fix it 🤔
i prefer if it stayed smaller. now its as big as the highlander. not trying to drive a bus
