Scotty honestly how’s the ride? Bumpy?
Did Scotty mention it’s the second fastest Toyota but the first fastest has a BMW engine so as far as straight Toyota this is the fastest one they make and it’s a small SUV, the future is now
Ya and instead they should be pushing out hydrogen engines because they can do 70mpg.
"They know what side of the bread is buttered" lol dying
@@John-209 the 2004 gen rav 4 V6 was the same way
Prius Prime owner here. They’re amazing cars and remarkably trouble free. This is my second Prius and the warranty is better than my last 2013. Toyota makes the best hybrids. Period.
Told by toyota they were the first one to make hybrid.
If only the prius wasn't so unappealing to my eyes :(
@@imdba3685 Honda made the first hybrid I beleive. Toyota just makes the best ones these days.
@@alexdoan273 If only? Toyota offers several sedan hybrids that all get similar mpg as the priuses. They even use the same drivetrain technology.
@@tardonator yeah but there are only 2 plug-in versions. And the rav4 is prohibitly expensive for me
Plug-in hybrids are really the best of both worlds. You have a little electric range and also power combined with the gas engine. You also don't have to worry about the battery running down.
This is one of the hardest vehicles to get the demand is so high.
Supply is also very low. Toyota cannot source enough batteries to meet demand.
Most of the batteries are being directed to the Prius Prime, since it is the much better compliance vehicle to meet emissions and fuel economy standards.
I like my gas hog !
Sucker's are born every second. Scotty already completely tore apart the alleged green aspects to these vehicles. Far more wasteful of rare earth minerals than any gas engine car. Heavier which means more tax on it and higher registration fees and insurance.
@@Sunset4Semaphores Prius is so much better value. Low 20k range.
There are a ton of Prius Prime vehicles to buy right now; no one wants them since they are not SUVs. You can buy a 2018 Prius Prime for only $15,000 which is way less than the $60,000 that the RAV4 Prime is now selling for (they are selling for a minimum of $15,000 over list price).
What a national treasure Scotty is. Never change, Scotty.
Id say he should run for president. But we don't deserve it
I guess you can upgrade the tires and when they wear out, put the original tires back on and calm down.
I have my 2007 Camry hybrid for 9 years now and all I’ve had to do is replace brakes and calipers. It’s incredible. 230k miles and runs like a champ still. I’m running my Camry till it takes a dump. I like no car payment and I like my Toyota
How is your battery holding up after 7 years of driving?
@@oldmilk3269 I'm not a fan of hybrids, but I do know that many Toyota hybrids have batteries that last a lot longer than I would have thought possible. It seems how they are treated makes a difference.
If I wanted a hybrid, Toyota seems to have batteries than perform better than expected.
@@eg4449 It not just the batteries it's ALSO the TECH that take CARE of the batteries
@@oldmilk3269 the battery has been on the dash at certain points low. But it always goes back up to 3/4. I think maybe the life of the car I’ve had it it’s been at 3/4 still. Just sometimes maybe like 5 or 6 times I’ve noticed the battery gauge on the dash low. And yes that threw some red flags temporarily. But then it went back up to 3/4 later in the day. To me I’m just riding it until the battery shits and then I may look for a slightly newer Toyota used. To be honest I haven’t replaced the spark plugs since I bought it. I’m replacing them today after watching the spark plug episode yesterday. I got the premium plugs cause that’s what was in the car. My mechanic couldn’t believe it. He’s like u haven’t replaced any spark plugs ? Idk to me if it’s running fine don’t mess with it. But now I have to start being proactive cause the car is in higher mile range and so this past week I made appointment for my mechanic to take a peak and see how things are.
@@Castellanocreep cool ... I had a 2018 Ford Fusion hybrid that I bought with 28k miles on it... was averaging 42 mpg until 2 people caused a accident and they hit each other and slid into my car... totaled it. I just bought a 2021 Ford Escape hybrid. Hopefully I can get the same mileage as the fusion. If I can avg 38 mpg being it’s a SUV vs a car I’ll be fine with that.
Been waiting for Scotty to make this video since late 2019.....was not disappointed as he gave his seal of approval.
Currently have a Prius Prime and loves it!! Would not mind to upgrade to Rav4 Prime based on Scotty's review!! Great review BTW!!
I bought my first ever Toyota recently. I love it. I can't believe I waited this long to get one. LOL Scotty wasn't joking
Afternoon Scotty! Rav up your engines!
afternoon!
I think I might get one of these. Seems smart if it covers your daily commute. You're driving cheap and clean and you don't have to worry about a whole new infrastructure and waiting to charge on road trips.
I have an 8 mile commute one way. This seems to be the perfect vehicle to finally replace our venerable and super reliable 03 RX300, that has 195k miles. Plan on driving the RX to at least 210k miles, then will be looking to get the RAV4 Prime. Was thinking about the new Venza, but it doesn't have a plug in hybrid.
That RX powertrain is barely broken in.
My 2002 RX300 has 206,000 miles on it. I am thinking about doing the timing belt again because I want to keep my car as long as possible. The RAV4 Prime will be a serious candidate for my next car. I’ve had my 2002 Lexus RX since Feb 2002. I feel so blessed.
"Rev up your electric motors" should have been the intro of this video
Just turning the volume down during the intro should suffice. Haha
Yes, I was waiting to see your take on this SUV!
No similarity as it is a Toyota.
FYI Southern California dealers are factoring in the $7500 rebate into the price of the prime. Sticker price is $45000. If you could pay 38k plus tax then get the rebate this would be worth it.
We just ordered a Rav4 XSE. 2 months to come in! Damn. Can't wait.
Yup, I just ordered one and dealer said it should arrive in July!
I bought one. Its fast, efficient, great ride, power, comfort.
Makes a lot of sense as a transitional vehicle to electric. In Chicago I'd never use the gas, even if I lived up to about 20 miles out in the burbs instead of the city itself. Run on gas for out of town trips where the still-slow pace of charging gets in your way. Enjoy the towing which is much better on this than a standard RAV4. And Scotty notes the traction issue on this; it probably needs bigger brakes and definitely better tires.
We really like our Rav4 Prime. A great car in general (this is our 3rd Rav4) and you get some of the benefits of an EV (quiet, torque, fuel efficiency) without any concerns with having to plan when, where and how to charge. You can drive on gas, drive on electric, charge while running on gas or charge at home. There is no way I would by an EV given the current situation with charging times and charging stations. When those issues are solved in ten years I'll rethink the situation if I'm still around.
interesting, does it automatically close side mirrors? and have powerlift gate without using hand?
@@MaryPAULINElove No but I can live without those features knowing there is the ability to fuel the vehicle off every exit on I-95 or within a mile of any hotel I happen to be staying at in five minutes. I’m currently staying at an Airbnb with no access to charging. No problem. I drive on gas and while driving charge the EV battery. I don’t have to be concerned with finding a charging station and sitting there for an hour or more charging a battery.
@@pmh1nic awesome 👌
@@pmh1nic hi does the Aircon work when the engine is turned off?
@@sko1beer Yes. The battery will run the A/C
My Rav 4 hybrid will be delivered to my job tomorrow Morning I am so excited
Hoping they'll bring the Corolla Cross SUV to the US from Asia. Suppose to be available either all gas or hybrid. Don't need something as big as RAV4 but the Cross looks just right.
with dealers charging $3-8 grand mark up , I'll wait till they make more
I have a 2021 engine operated rav4 and there's nothing I miss from other vehicles , it's comfortable ride. I've wanted to upgrade to the Prime but there's no manufacturer incentive because of the demand...😰.
Maybe next year ...
SAME. im thinking prime or i might just settle with the hybrid
Still can't hold of a Rav4 Prime...dealers that do have them wants $10,000 over asking price.
Should be against the law or at least against Toyota dealership standards to put that much of a mark up on any vehicle 🚗.. any dealership doing that should lose their Toyota dealership..
I, too, refuse to pay over MSRP!
Mountain States Toyota (Colorado) does not up- charge (“buyer’s premium”). They put you on a waiting list and let you know when a vehicle is available. You don’t put any money down until you say “yes” to a particular RAV4 Prime.
I got mine in June and am so happy with it! (And I’m not a “car freak”).
Good luck finding one! It’s next to impossible to find this thing!!
I just bought one. Paid 5 k over sticker though.
The last time i was here this early, my sister bought a 2021 RAV4 and i was still driving my 94' Celica with no car payment.
This is the car that can't do the moose test
What?

Interesting... Of all the different make and model cars I’ve driven, I’ve never driven a hybrid or electric. Your rave review for the RAV4, just might entice me to drive one.
Go try one out. I drove ‘97 for years then a ‘2010 V6. I tried out a ‘16 XLE and loved it. It is very comfortable, drives well, and gets about 32 mpg consistently. FYI I have never had a repair other than brakes on any of the three. Love you Toyota! You keep stress out of my life.
I thought he was against hybrids and electric?!
I love Toyota's conservative ways. I've owned 3 Prius cars over the years and still have 2 Prius v wagons. We love the Prius v for size and ease of entry and exit for an old man, like me.
Here in Alberta Canada. We dont get the high rebate although Quebec does so most Primes go to Quebec. They are difficult to get here. A three year wait. Lots can change in 3 years. The dealerships also have them marked way up because they are so rare and high in demand. I have a friend that showed us his. It is a remarkable car ahead of its time. Thanks for the review. Another good one. I am quite addicted to the Scotty channel.
Got a rav 4 adventure. As much as I would love the extra horsepower on the regular road, I still prefer having a sport mode as it drives far better and different off road traction features. And as he said, the car has more horsepower but it is basically a front wheel drive car. The rav 4 adventure has a little less than 2000 more pounds of towing capacity which comes in handy for me. Prime only has about 1700 pounds of towing which is really nothing different than the 2018 rav 4 le. So one thing I like is the different options that Toyota provides with the models people already love. I absolutely love the rav 4 line up and when I had the money, I traded my rav 4 le 2018 for the 2021 adventure. Very happy with it too. It has about 30-40 more horsepower than my LE and far more towing capacity. I know it sounds dumb to toe with a rav 4 but the rav 4 is my daily driver and once in a while I do have to tow something like a tool box or even a small camper.
I was extremely fortunate to find a 2015 Limited 4 months ago with 20k miles in fantastic condition
I own the Rav4 Prime LE here in Canada, and I have to say it is an amazing small truck.
I love it!
Please give a review of the 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid.
Basically a big, FWD-only Prius with worse gas mileage, sliding rear doors, and a lot of cupholders..
Did some more research. AWD is available.
@@EMichaelBall 36mpg
More technology > more that can break down > more cost to fix. But if one is "well to do" doesn't matter.
I've got a Rav4 hybrid XSE on order and it will arrive some time next year. It will replace my 2008 audi a4. I have a love/hate relationship with that Audi it drives nice. But most components on that model is of crap quality and I will never ever by another audi again.
I agree Scotty I own a 2013 Prius base model and waas a foreign car mechanic for 20 years and the Prius is by far the best engineered car out there mine has well over 150,000 mile with just normal maintenance.
I have the white Rav4 Prime SE in the white version and I love it. Some dealers mark up the price by a few hundred dollars but well worth it if you can find one.
Hello Mr Scotty, Nice to see you 🤟
hello!
I bought my Toyo HiAce van in 1643, only needed to change the candle oil and flux capacitor. Need to book in with Doc Emmett Brown. Toyo can last 300+ years if you change oil 👍
I LOVE my XSE RAV4 Prime! Literally the best vehicle on the market IMO.
Did you pay a premium over the sticker?
@@imdba3685 Sticker price was just under 60k but I got it down to 52k.
PHEVs make good sense. I commuted with a C-Max Energi fir eight years. Lifetime MPG +97 MPG. Now that I’m retired, I buy gasoline about every 6-8 weeks.
Scotty your truly the best!..REVIEWS NEVER MADE ME SMILE SO MUCH.
It’s currently tough enough to find an affordable Rav4 let alone a Prime version, but this sounds amazing!
They are going for 10k over MSRP insane
Well in Houston it’s a lot cheaper as I just purchased 2021 rav 4 xle premium
Love mine !! First Toyota
Hey Scotty. I had an alarm on my Camaro. I disabled the alarm. Now, no alarm driving over 80mph 😎
I can't wait to get mine! I plan on selling the stock tires right out of the gate and going with a dedicated set of summer wheels/tires and then using quality winter tires on the stock wheels. Performance is quite good right out of the gate but being a tuner at heart I plan on doing some basic upgrades that will improve on what is there for reasonable cost in both the handling and power department. Granted it will never be as fast as my Mitsubishi Evolution but for a year round daily driver that can do it all it's hard to beat.
I've got a 2017 BMW i3 range extender model. Not very good for a road trip but it's a perfect city car
The BMW i3 is a good buy used, and really fun to drive. Kind of small though.
I had 2000 Rave 4
It was best car.
I lost it in a crash 2009.
Now I have 2007 Carry.
Still A Great Car.
Each auto strut deck hatch pump went bad on the first one, $1400 a side. Just for the liftgate struts. $2800 plus labor charges. Warranty was applied, but the same happened on the 2017 within 3 years. Got rid of it because the rear deck lid struts failed on that too.
Tesla people must love Scotty's videos
My stage 1 Unitronic tune on my 2014 VW GLI gives me about 40 mpg on the highway after a carbon clean at 180K miles. Aftermarket tunes make your dumbed-down engineered engine for regular people to ride more efficiently and get better gas mileage.
Scotty, if that were my car I would’ve let you drive.
I have a 2006 (and a 2015 RAV4) and I LOVE IT! Real 4 wheel drive! And… a 6 cyl, 268 hp engine! All my friends are SHOCKED after their first ride in it! I will never give it up! 15 yrs old, I’m the second owner (paid $8000 in 2013! Canadian!) it only has 150,000kms. I’m on my way to 64 yrs old and this 2006 RAV4 may be my last car!
Peace
Imagine how fast the RAV4 Prime would be if it had a twin turbo V6 Hybrid from the new Tundra
I just came to listen Scotty man has more Horse Power that this RAV4 or any other Vehicle
I have the same car it is incredibly fast he’s right about the tires
I've rented quite a few cars, specifically Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Chevy, and Ford. I would put Chevy and Kia on the bottom tier, Hyundai and Ford at mid tier, and the Toyotas have been the best, specifically the Camry and Prius. I'm looking at buying a hybrid because I drive 30k+ miles a year on questionable roads and the RAV4 Hybrid seems like the best option for me. I've been driving a 90s Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 which is great except for getting 17MPG highway and riding like a 90s Nissan lol. I know the RAV4 would get totally stuck in some of the conditions I've driven the pathfinder out of, but I don't mind loss of capability for the gain in range and comfort.
It’s actually the fastest. The one Scotty mentions is faster is basically a BMW.
Toyota Supra is the quicker car that Toyota makes. Rav4 Prime second.
I believe Dylan is correct. The Rav4 Prime is the quickest that Toyota "makes". It's not the quickest one they "sell". The Supra is the quickest they "sell" and is made by BMW and re-badged by Toyota.
I wish I have that car someday. Worth watching video.
Fanitic fan from philippines here
I would murder to get one of these. Hopefully one day they will be more plentiful and cheaper. I feel like a plug-in hybrid is a great compromise. 50 miles will encompass the overwhelming majority of my drives, but I have the option to use the gas engine when I need more range.
ya,,, but if you murder you won't get to drive it... better to save up for one
@@D45VR: that's assuming I get caught.
Thanks for your video, Scott. I picked up my Prime XSE with tech package in April. I have a few questions and hopefully you or other owners can provide some details. I read other car magazines and they mentioned not to charge the battery to 100% all the time. I asked a tech when I brought my car for service. I was told there is no difference to charge it up to 80% or 100% as it will not affect the battery life. My another question is about gasoline in the tank. The owner's manual mentions not to leave the gasoline for too long. How long is too long? Now I stopped charging on the 4th month so I can get some fresh gasoline in the tank. My last question is about range. In the summer, when it's 100% charged, it showed 83km. Now it's end of Dec and it only shows 73km. Sure, it's winter now. But I am surprised it could lose 10km between summer and winter, and that's before I turn on the A/C or heat.
Called around the Toyota dealerships in Rhode Island a week ago and Toyota + Rhode Island are giving a whopping 0$ incentive to purchase one of these bad Larry's.

With gas prices the way they are now, this is the best SUV on the planet at it's price.
I've had two Toyotas: a Toyota Crown made in 1964, with 3sp column shift, and a Toyota Corolla made in 1989 with automatic transmission. Both were excellent cars, and I wish I still had that Corolla- I used it as a rural mail delivery car, and it got hammered daily, but never missed a beat. Went through brake pads every 3 months tho!
The electric vehicles don't float my boat. Even though I'm far from being an eco-nut, they just produce too much toxic garbage for my taste. Those batteries have a finite lifespan, and when they're worn out they can't be recycled, and the heavy metals & other toxic crap in them is gonna be a hazard to humanity for hundreds of years. Plus, they need to get the electricity from somewhere, and those bird-choppers won't cut it (sure do cut the birds, tho.) "Green" energy is an oxymoron!
5-10k markup in Cali though.. eats your rebate and makes it not worth it
Just ordered one. That was what I thought initially. Changed my mind after test driving other cars in 50k range.
@@imdba3685 from a performance/capability perspective its still a good option, not so much from a fuel savings perspective
That Black ⚫ Tundra looked pretty sharp in the driveway
I own the 2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD OFF Road n it’s literally the best thing
I think instead of people focusing go all electric I feel like hybrids and plug in hybrids are the way to go because a lot of people can benefit from the electric power in the city but you have the gas motor as a great back up or for when you want to take king road trips and don’t have to worry about charging a vehicle
A range of 1,000km (600 miles), that’s excellent, the Toyota Rav 4 is a superb car.

I have had several issues with the brake system on our 2009 Highlander Hybrid, the DC motor failed resulting in zero brake boost and wife ate a subaru at a stop light. $900 later got a new DC motor and had to purchace Tech stream to install it. 6 months after that the actuator failed. $1200 later its back on the road after another subscribtion to tech stream. Not impressed at all and I have a youtube video of the failed actuator tilted "highlander brake failure"
The only thing I've found with the rav4s, trying to sit in them the top of the door jam hits me middle of the ear, same with 4runner/ Tacoma . The only toyotas that my head clears the door are highlander, sienna or tundra
So what's the average cost to fully charge this? 🤔 Is it cheaper than what gas would cost for the 42 miles of EV?
Do you have any videos on the best cars to flat tow behind an RV? If not, there are a huge number of RV owners always looking into that.
Your the best scotty we need honest people like you in the car world. Oh by the your crazy as hell but love it
The piece everyone misses with electric cars is for the average person 97% or more of your charging will occur at home, not a pubic charger. People that drive for work, drive cross country, live in a place where they don't have access to charge at home then yes it's a problem. Based on electric vehicle range, even the ones with low range I can exclusively charge at home 100% of the time.
So these are still back ordered for some time...anyone out there going to buy the new Tucson PHEV when it comes out instead?
Nice and honest review

Smart choice. Outstanding amazing car with great fuel consumption and horsepower
I bought a Rav4 Prime this week and am trying to figure out how to break it in. I live 20 miles from work, so the gas engine started for the first time over the weekend. I expect to use it as an electric car daily and a hybrid car occasionally. How can I tell when the engine has run 300 to 500 miles for break in? Same question for oil changes. Should I change the oil every 6 months?
I thought the rav4 prime only got like 45miles on electric only. If you have a 20mile one way commute, wouldn’t you have to charge the car every night? How much does that cost?
Scotty, would you consider buying a
