In the original pitch for Star Trek: The Original Series by creator Gene Roddenberry, the vessel that the series was set on was called the SS Yorktown.[2] The starship was subsequently renamed USS Enterprise before the start of the series because of the growing real world fame of the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, recently launched by the U.S. Navy as the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).[3] The name Enterprise has been linked with Star Trek since. A second Enterprise made its debut in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home(1986), suffixed NCC-1701-A.[4] The fourth version was introduced in a third season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation entitled "Yesterday's Enterprise".[5] That series was set on the fifth version of the vessel, prefixed NCC-1701-D.[6] The missing third Enterprise, prefixed NCC-1701-B, was introduced in Star Trek Generations (1994).[7]
Following the end of Star Trek: Voyager,[8] which had been used to launch UPN,[9] they were seeking a new Star Trek series. The network contacted Rick Berman during the fifth season of Star Trek: Voyager,[10] and informed him that if he didn't develop a new Star Trek show then they would find someone else who would.[11] Berman had previously been an executive producer on Voyager,[12] and other series dating back to The Next Generation.[13] Berman contacted Brannon Braga, and the two became the executive producers on the new show.[11] The new series launched after the end of Voyager, but was set some 150 years before the events seen in The Original Series. The new series was originally called Enterprise, without the Star Trek prefix. UPN president Dean Valentine said that "Paramount felt it was no longer necessary. Enterprise is synonymous with Star Trek".[14] Berman's idea was to set it in an earlier time period, with limited technology such as the ship only being able to travel up to warp 5,[15] as he felt that after three series being set in roughly the same time period it would be exciting for the fans. If that was your first time watching Enterprise, I'm jealous! I watched it when it first aired and loved it, still do.
You should pick up the Enterprise bluray sets, the wealth of behind the scenes interviews on them is amazing. I do an Enterprise bluray re-watch almost once a year.

I build mostly Tamiya, Bandai, Revell Germany ect. but when I pull orders for customers who want these plus Mobeus kits and I never knew how they are molded and how well they go together so thanks for this post.

I don't mean this as an insult, Chris, but it's astounding that you can create items of such delicate beauty with those thick digits of yours. Truth be told, with ultimate irony, I could be a hand model in comparison, yet I'm a clumsy oaf
When I was a kid, I use to buy and build plastic car model kits, and they would invariably turn out to be gluey messes. I'd be ready to throw them in the garbage when my brother, the every resourceful one trying to convince me that I wasn't utterly useless, would take my models, partially melt and crumble them to use as wrecks in his panorama of a race track
Fortunately for me, I eventually discovered that my strength is in abstract and theoretical math
A true story; nobody could make this stuff up

Beautiful job. I have this model and I'm going to light it. And after having much thought during my 3 hours of hand drilling 33 windows, (not all of them lol) I started to think about the aztec. And I've done some calculations and honestly for a 1:1000 scale, you wouldn't see the aztec. I'm an authentic type of duplicator, if you think about it, 1:1000 scale the ship in real life is 2296 feet from tip to tip, so in a sense if you roughly divide that and place your view of the ship 1143 feet away and there are clips in the show at about that distance wherein on the show you can't see the aztec panels you can see panel lines somewhat, but not the aztec. So, I'm not going to do them because no matter how close you get to a 1:1000 scale model you will always be 1143 feet away. In short it all comes down to what we enjoy doing and the thought we have as scale model builders. To each their own, if you will. Open to thoughts on this of course, but I'm not doing aztec as I don't believe you'd see them on that size model. Wish I had a 350 size then I'd do it. And it would be easier to light, but after 33 years of doing models and lighting them, I always enjoy a good challenge. I do thank you for the post Sir!
