I’ve been getting back into these models after a long time away. I really wish they would scale these all the same size

This is my absolute favorite model! I have built 3 versions of the Enterprise, as well as all the other Constitution Class ships. This is the perfect size for someone who wants good detail, but still wants enough room to display multiple versions (or the entire fleet!) in a book case.

I just completed this model. It's a really nice kit, but - as you suggest - it takes a LOT of putty work and sanding to fill all the gaps, especially the pylon connection point. A couple tips for anyone building this kit:
I recommend sanding the bottom surface of the "base" holding the two pylons together, so it is slightly recessed below the slot in the Engineering hull. Only sand off as much as necessary, checking the fit often during sanding. The slight recess can then be filled with putty and sanded smooth to completely hide the joint. If you don't sand that pylon "base" first, it will stand "proud" above the Engineering hull, which puttying cannot hide. I recommend puttying by carefully applying Squadron Putty diluted with acetone. Apply it in multiple thin layers (like thick paint), then sand with 600/1200 grit sandpaper once it cures. This minimizes the amount of sanding necessary. BTW, I also used some Tamiya White putty applied the same way, but found it cured a little too hard, making it difficult to sand. Squadron Putty sanded a lot easier.
Warning: I found the decals in my kit to be EXTREMELY fragile and brittle (maybe it was just old). I recommend letting the decals soak a LONG time (5+ minutes) before even ATTEMPTING removal from the backing sheet. Slide them off the backing very slowly; if they fight you, soak even longer. Otherwise you may find yourself forced to piece together decal "shrapnel", especially with the long/thin (engine insignia) or complex (Engineering hull) decals. I thankfully had two copies of this kit lying around, and was able to cannibalize the decals from one kit to replace those that disintegrated on me before I tried the long-soak trick.

Currently building the 1/350 K'Tinga, and have the TOS Enterprise in that scale as well. However, I have the Excelsior and Enterprise B in 1/1000 and wanted the others as well since 1/350 eats up room. I am glad I saw this as I didn't realize how inaccurate the smaller/older kits had been. The Botany Bay version is what I had in my ebay want list and am glad to know I picked the right one.

Great video - The Empire episode TOS was "Mirror Mirror", love that they included these decals in the set.

Another great video 🙂👍. I also picked this model up for a similar discount from a local craft store. I haven't built it yet, but good to know what's in the box. I now have the right expectation regarding the level of work and skill this kit will take. I also have the pre-decorated snap together 1,000 scale enterprise built. It has all the gaps you've identified in this video but I didn't use putty because it was pre-decorated. Now I'm thinking I could go back and use glue and putty on that kit, then prime and paint, and lastly apply some of the extra decals from this kit to that one. The end result will be two 1/1000 scale Constitution class starships 😁.

The Botany Bay isn't actually brown. That notion comes from a series of pictures from a con where the original filming miniature was featured, which were taken on a camera that hadn't been properly white balaced, resulting in the entire picture being sort of sepia toned, and the Botany Bay looking very brown. The truth of the matter is that the model makers almost certainly used the same gray paint that they used on the Enterprise, then heavily weathered it. I direct you to any number of behind the scenes pictures of the models in front of the bluescreen, where you can clearly see both ships in their battleship gray glory.

When I eventually have the time to build it,
Given the supply of additional parts,
I will build it according to astheics I like, from the various seasons.

Have to say, getting the seams tight on this model is a real challenge. It took several tries until I got it right (well, mostly right anyway).

Tip for airbrushing: if you put some alligator clips on the end of some cocktail sticks, you're able to hold the part in the air as you airbrush, and get more sides of it at once

Heavily considering picking this up just after building the Revell Enterprise (Can look fairly good with some TLC). Can you tell me/ link me to a guide saying what pieces are for what version of the ship? or are they labelled in the instructions

I'm looking for this model kit to make the U.S.S Defiant and/or it's Mirror Universe counterpart. Haven't found it yet.

To this day, probably still the best engineered Enterprise kit -- especially for the original version of the Enterprise.
They ARE getting harder to find in stores though as stores generally cut down or eliminate their modeling sections.
Honestly, it's been a while since I've seen the 1/1000 scale Enterprise in store and the last Enterprise I saw was the awful AMT/ERTL "classic kit." Yuck!
I did see the pre-painted 1/1000 scale version in store (no Botany Bay in that one!) and wish I had gotten it. With a matte/dulling coat, it would have been a decent display model for a lot less hassle than the regular edition.
I kind of would like to see the classic Enterprise updated with the Motion Picture era graphics -- the font, revised Starfleet pennant, pinstripes, etc.
The original Matt Jefferies design still looks so good with just slightly more detail on the hull and revised lighting. The best "updated" TOS Enterprises I've seen online hardly change anything. I personally think it looks better with sweptback pylons but keeping the style of the nacelles and most everything else intact. They really didn't have to go and redesign it as far as they did in STD.

They missed an opportunity to have the Botany Bay in the second-to-last Trek film as well as casting a more appropriate actor as Khan.
Seriously, I think Antonio Banderas could have been a decent Khan.
No offense to Benedict Cumberbatch but he just wasn't Khan.

Why do you always put your glue on the outside of the model, I'm an old model builder and I always put my glue on the inside of the seams and the pin marks and then clamp them together for a while with clamps and rubber bands and then also you don't have to be putting up hardly any gaps if any show up at all, and also on the snap kits I do I still glue them together giving the model a stronger hold, just thought I'd let you know that!,👌. And p.s. what happened with the solar panels that are supposed to be on the rear of your Botany Bay model all you have are the struts sticking out for them to go unto 🤔?.
