Treasure Hunting on a Beautiful English Beach & an Unknown Soldier's Dog Tag - (May 2021)

- Well this week Im doing something different and I am not on the Thames! Join me as I head off to Folkestone to search for treasures on the beach. Treasure being anything exciting we can find in the mud and on the beach! I've been collecting glass at Folkestone for years but I have never searched for fossils there - so this was a real adventure for me, made all the more special as this time I was with my family (Angelo, Grace, Lauren and Faith). We had great fun getting totally absorbed in the search - finding fossils galore!
Whilst there I met a gentleman who gave me a very special gift of an Army Dog Tag. As many of my regular viewers will know, I do love searching for the history behind such objects and this one is marked with D. Kennett - and the service number 22817806.
After the search, Angelo and I ran into the freezing cold sea for a dip. I haven't been in the sea for an age and it was so invigorating!
I have had a lot of help with fossil ID by Sam who has an amazing instagram site all about fossils called @megasteg. It's well worth giving her a follow if you enjoy fossiling and also she is a Mudlark too. Sam suggested some good resources for Folkestone fossils.

We had some help from Alison who we met on the beach too. Thank you Alison! And we also enjoyed meeting @fifty_shades_of_shell so for all things shell, he is the man to follow.
And lastly, if you would like to follow something rock related but in a different way, please follow Angelo and his rock band at @CollateralUK on youtube and @collateralrocks on instagram! You can also follow Lauren at DarkSkye Photography on facebook.
If you would like to treat me to nice earl grey cup of tea - then you can do so via my KOFI account:-

Most of all, enjoy the video and comments and feedback are welcome. Do subscribe if you would like to see more!
Thank you for watching. Have a beautiful week.
See you soon.

Nicola, a Family that larks together stays together, cheers.
ha ha I like that saying :) xx
It's fantastic that they all like to spend time together! ❤️
I smiled all the way through this video. What a lovely family of artists. It was great watching a newbie go from having found no fossils to finding all the fossils including the fossil still stuck in its mother clay. Just amazing! And the brave ones challenging the surf, I salute you! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your watching us! And for your lovely comment xx
I have a new wedding ring for you. Lol.
Nobody can say your not a brave women , after seeing you go in that cold water. You have got a great lo family. Thanks for sharing

She surely is :) x
A day treasure hunting on the shore with family equals bliss.
Lovely to see Angelo and Grace, along with Faith and Lauren .Such a precious day out to enjoy together. 💕
Thank you Charlotte x
@@nicolawhitemudlark I absolutely agree! How does it feel being a "Granny"? ;-) We´ve five children and they let me wait to be a Grandpa (little sigh).
Wish you all the best!
What a fun day for everyone! Lauren's jewelry is beautiful!
Thank you! I'll let Lauren know x
the time in peace we spend with family is unpayable, outstanding video my historian amazing friend. 😘😘😘💖💝
Thank you Franciso xx
What a wonderful Mother's Day gift for you Nicola.Your favorite pastime with your favorite people.
Thanks Kelvin! Yes, Im very fortunate x
@@nicolawhitemudlark Hello Nicola. I don't know how much "credibility" I have with you. I realize you have no reason to believe anything
I post to your comments page.
Regardless, I feel compelled to tell you something about your daughter; Faith.
She is a "special" individual...quite different from most other children.
With the greatest respect, I need to make these statements to you; her mother.
Continuing your watchful, guardian observance & the guiding assistance of your
firm, parental hands, Faith will certainly make her mark on the world.
In my perception as an empath, I'll tell you it'll be most likely in one of two fields;
Education or Medicine. Quite possibly a combination of both. Even the field of Science is a strong possibility for her.
Faith is a rare person. She will become a "noteworthy & well respected" woman.
Of course...as parents...it's not unusual for us to see "special" traits in our children. Never-the less, I believe you've noticed a different type of "specialness" in Faith. Respectfully,
Ben
@@nicolawhitemudlark P.S. Just reread the comments I posted
about you & your daughter Faith. Honestly Nic...I can't understand ??WHY??
the body of what I wrote is so broken & separated.
Also, the word "Remove" was deleted...BUT...it's now strangely been reinserted.
Please ignore the word "Remove".
That sentence should read: Possibly a combination of both.
THANKS, Ben
@@duygukayhanisaskank4915 hi Ben, my daughter is Grace, the older girl. Faith is my step grand daughter. Thank you for your comments!
@@nicolawhitemudlark Yes, I sent you a follow-up comment about her relationship with you. Because I felt Faith was "a bit" removed from you.
So, THANKS for confirming this.
Remember, I'm doing this from a video tape; never having met either of you. Regardless, what I stated about her is true & you will play a "necessary" role in
shaping what is to become her "noteworthy" future.
Kind regards, Ben
Reminds me of Summer vacations in S. Carolina as a child, looking for shells and fossil shark teeth with my family.
oh, now that sounds like fun. And I would love to find a shark's tooth! x
Same off Topsail Island, NC. Find fossil shark teeth all the time.
@@nicolawhitemudlark Yep! The Carolinas, to Northern Florida! They find them in the rivers!
My Angustadens tooth I bought is like 20-30 million years old, I got it from a North Carolina hunter.
Plus, in that region, Civil War, Rev War, and Colonial history too!
In the gulf beaches, its not uncommon to find sand dollars of various sizes along the beaches.
Well who'd have thought it...a Nicola White mudlarking video without even a sniff of a pipe stem! Lovely portrayal of a family day out...with fossils a huge bonus - thoroughly enjoyable!
Thank you. yes, no pipes. They will return soon :) x
Angelo, "Fossil stuff", he is lovely. Faith is a cutie. Fossils are awesome. Great finds. Lauren's jewellery is gorgeous.
They were taught well ❤
You have a beautiful family ,and are so blessed to be able to have fun together.

What a glorious family, Nicola!
My heart skipped a beat when you held up the dog tag with Kennett D, since my name and middle initial is Kenneth D. ...LOL!
Finally, forgive me for hoping you'd have a swim suit that was white with dark stripes, like your trademark mudlarking shirt. You look awesome!
ha ha thanks - and gosh yes, so similar to your name! xx
What a great episode Nicola.
Ahhh I was just waiting for your Pinkwellyness to pop up on my subs!!

Thanks Jane. So glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching xx
I like to watch you. Sweetheart
Before watching this vid I need to thank you and Si Finds
I saw them dredging old abandoned canal locally. I recognised a bit of 20's marmalade jar.
I went back next day for my first bottle hunt , someone had been there first.....
, but I got a complete Codd bottle circa1900( from a town 20 miles away ),a huge preserves jar, various small turn of the 19th century bottles, and a nice green bottle marked with the name of a defunct wine merchants from the nearest market town.probably about the same age.and a little bell shaped shear lipped ink.all within about 15mins (after that I cut myself and had to go home .Tetanus up to date so no ill effects)
thanks to you both( and all the hovercraft history hunters) for the inspiration
wow that's exciting Anthony! Glad you discovered some exciting history! Im dying to know where your drained canal was xx
Nicola, you have a beautiful family!
Thanks Penny x
recognized, instantly, a transit token. These tokens died out, in Seattle, around the first half half the 60s. Each city had their own individual design. I think they were minted by one or a few companies. The Seattle tokens had the half moon cut-away. I think Folkstone and beach fossil hunting needs to go on my list. A great day away
I remember those riding the trollies to downtown.
Thanks Martha. Yes, you would enjoy Folkestone. wonderful. Glass and fossils xx
What a lovely family, you are blessed, brilliant to share your day on the beach . Thank you .
Thank you xx
@@nicolawhitemudlark Is Faith your Grand~daughter?
If so, all I sense about your influence in shaping her future is more logical to me.

Gorgeous family.
What a great way to make memories with your family! Lauren makes gorgeous jewelry

Great hunt. Getting the. Whole family together is a special day. Can not and will not believe you are a granny, much to young and beautiful. Allison must take after you, she is very talented.
Thank you Jim x
What a nice day for the family to have a hunt by the sea. It was sweet having big brother help little sister with her finds. It seems like you have raised great kids.
Thank you Glenna x
Total enjoyment with family participation and by the sea-Things get no better than this-A great viewer experience thank you for making this it re-enforces how important family and memories can be ✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks James. Hugs, Nicola x
All these fossils remind me of the recent film ‘Ammonite’ starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. Worth a watch.
Thank you! And actually I haven't seen that yet and I really must! x
yes! that was an amazing one.
Beautiful family and fossils. That would be a dream day for me. Just amazing.
How great to be able to share your mudlarking with your family. I have never experienced the pleasure, but can understand the thrill of finding a treasure on a beach.
Not a clay pipe insight even with Nicola's eagle eye but the distinct pleasure of meeting Nicola's family and a plethora of fossils .Perhaps the dog tag with C E stamped on it, could that be his religion "Church of England". Then of course the winner of the bathing beauty competition our delightful Nicola plunging so bravely into the surf, Bravo Nicola. When the vlog opened I thought Nicola is taking us back to Carbis Bay but no she wanted to bathe at Folkstone. A lovely change of pace ,thank you so much a lovely surpriseXX
Thanks Ralph! Carbis bay again soon - I hope! x
Awesome to see the girls carry on the tradition! As I’m sure most here know, 11 yr old English amateur fossil collector Mary Anning changed paleontology forever with her finds. Good to see 200 years later her modern counterparts keep up the search!
Thank you Johan. So true
Lovely to see Angelo and Lauren , we re hoping to catch the Band at Leo’s xxx
Oh great. I hope you do! It will be lovely to see some live music again and I know they are looking forward to it! xx

Oh how funny!! I wonder however that token got there. Thank you Melissa ❤️
You found more fossils there than we did during a whole week on the Jurassic Coast beaches in Dorset! Lovely family you have! Can't believe you are a Granny though.......
Must admit my tiny nadgers would have migrated up into my pelvic cavity, plunging into the sea like that.
ha ha John! x
What a lovely family you have Nicola thankyou for sharing them with us x
What a fun day. So nice to see your family enjoying your hobby as well. I had a good laugh when you & Angelo went swimming!

The British Army Dog tag was issued between July 1951 and June 1955. So was possible a National service drafted soldier
Thank you very much Andy. Really appreciate that info. That's very helpful

Thanks for coming along Margi! xx
Beautiful place. Beautiful kids. Good music. You are gutsy as hell to go in that water! Thanks😀
What a beautiful family ,thank you xx
I enjoy all of your videos, but my favorite part of this one was when Angelo was singing "Dock of the Bay." Back in 1967 that was one of the songs that helped me keep my sanity while I was in the Air Force copying morse code for over 2 years on radios within a lot of static looking for very weak signals with a old, even at that time, manual typewriter onto 6-ply paper with carbons between. 8 hour shifts, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Brought back many memories, mostly good ones. Thank you Angelo!
Hi Lee! Im so happy that brought good memories back for you. Love Nicola xx
Nice outing with the Family there Nic. Good fun.
Thanks Steve x

A great outing with your family - mine are in the 40's & 50's - cherish the earlier years
So lovely to see your family. Awesome finds on the beach.
Thank You for sharing your time with your family. What a great day!!!! And kuudooos for your swim. Very brave of you. Love the fossils and glass.
Cheryl & I love watching your adventures. Roll on he next one. Dog tag very interesting!
Just a warning: the pyrite ammonites are likely to dry out, rust and disintegrate if left untreated. I think putting varnish on them or soaking them in resin should help.
It reminded me of my younger days with my husband and children on the Dublin beaches.
Beutiful finds,Beutiful family,. How brave of you to dive in that grey water.
Last time in Cornwall was 92.
From Queensland, Big hug .🏊♀️🏊♀️🏊♀️

I have to confess Nicola that this is more my thing. Fossil hunting and beachcombing.
Thank you for inviting us along with you and your family for a day at the beach. It was great fun and all the kids seemed to be having a good time fossil hunting. You all found some amazing ammonites, Faith's find was awesome as was your big one. Angelo's tiny but perfect specimens are also beautiful.
Lauren's sea glass collection is very impressive and her jewellery is beautiful.
It's a shame you couldn't find out anything about the owner of the dog tag.
