i agree that in meetings - there is a lot of small talk at the start - in fact - that small talk usually starts before the meeting does - it starts when the first people arrive - and will last past the arrival of the last person - but in retail stores - asking something like where an item is - it is not required to make small talk - i don't think i've ever engaged in small talk with staff at a store

Just don't think about anything when you speak English in front of anyone........i think u always think about "what people are thinking about ur English "......just don't care what they think..... We all make mistakes when we talk , the grammars it's normal.....

I would add that calling a person by his name, it has the most wonderful sound for him. Eg: if I say "How are you Marina?", hearing her name would be very exciting for her.
I confirm this. I've just moved to the US and I was at the gym and I met a guy one day and I tried to remember his name and the next time I called him by his name and he was excited and happy about it and now we are friends
