Just did spark plug, air filter, oil, oil filter, new grips and lubed cables. Feels like a new bike after being neglected for a few years. Engine seems a lot happier and more responsive. Not sure if it was the blogged air filter or spark plug, but it's definitely running a lot better now.

I wouldn't tighten chain on stand, I did this once and luckily i stopped a few hundred meters down the road for another issue, and saw my chain was tight AF, I think having no weight on the bikes suspension/swaybar makes more slack in the chain, so when you take it off the stand it stretches out and gets even tighter. Happened to me anyway haha.
Hey man, I appreciate the comment! I wanna give you what the manual says rather than just tell you to take my word for it lol Every Dirtbike I have ever worked on has the same procedure, involving elevating the rear wheel off the ground and allow the suspension to be unsprung and unloaded. Here is what Yamaha actually recommends as an example, straight from the manual. 1. Elevate the rear wheel by placing a suitable stand under the engine. 2. Check: Drive chain slack above the seal guard installation bolt. Out of specification: Adjust Drive chain slack: 48-58mm (1.9 a 2.3in) Hope this helps, and always refer to your manual for specs!
@@DanMX2112 Yeah right! I understand that completely. Just odd that I just tightened a little bit like you did and it went totally stiff! I figured it was looser when on a stand, I stand corrected, thanks! :)

Hey so is yamalube 10w40w going to be alright I just did a rebuild and not sure if I should get something different an save for a future oil change . I’m goin to be sending you photos hopefully by this weekend

Just picked up a 2003 YZ450F Last night on a good deal, haven’t really looked into it but I think it’s overheating a little. What do you recommend I check the water pump housing? Also I’m curious what spark plug do you recommend and what radiator cap is the one you have
Hey, so in the manuals it says 1l oil with Filter. So do you Fill up the cup with 1l oil and put the Filter in to soak it and than pull it out with like a fork or something? Or do you use more oil than 1 l cause the Filter soaked some oil? Hope ypu understand what im trying to say
Correct it does, and for this reason is why we change oil so regularly on MX bikes compared to ride bikes or anything else with a wet clutch, is due to the abuse. Also the reason I run Rotella T4 15-40, it’s cheap, more than adequate, and always available. It also doesn’t contain friction modifiers so it’s perfect for wet clutch’s! Thanks for watching!

@@DanMX2112 I lived in Colorado for 8 years and the 450 ate up the same terrain you are now riding in Utah. Now back home in Florida and it’s tight wooded trails and sugar sand. Still a great machine but a lot more work to ride slow, I miss the high desert and hill climbing. Mine would be very hard to let go for sure.
I understand! And that’s why I have the 125 project so I can ride the tight mountain trails and not lug the 450. I honestly hate riding that 450 on anything slow speed.
Yes you do, one is for the sump and the other for the clutch side case. Oil gets trapped in both. Commonly missed item, then leads to overfilling of not done correctly.

Question i have a yamaha yz450f 2009 the right filter is kn 141 or kn140 i know you said kn 141 but Amazon saying kn 140
Double check on KN website, I’m
Not sure 🤔
Looks like a 141 is what I’ve been using.
What about valve clearance? How often it’s done ??
Safe bet on the Yamahas is about 20 hrs after new, then 30 after that. I went 50 with no issues. Yamahas are great at holding valves.
Got rid of my 07 yz450f and got me a yz125
That’s awesome! How do you like the 125? Ring it out a bit more lol
so the clutch shares oil with the engine? You would think that would compromise the oil from clutch particulate.
Correct it does, and for this reason is why we change oil so regularly on MX bikes compared to ride bikes or anything else with a wet clutch, is due to the abuse.
