Great. I thought you must have detuned the E string from watching the video. Now I know. Thanks.
I bought the sheet music, but is there a mistake at bar 21/22? The music reads C natural on the 3rd string fingered with the thumb but AFAICS in the YT video you are thumbing the 4th string (detuned to D, at what would be the 10th fret on a bass guitar)
In fact looking at the video many times, I think you've detuned the 4th string to C. It looks like you play the Cnat and A in bar 21 with your thumb at the octave harmonic posn. Am I right??
im a young bass player and watching your videos makes me happy since i don't know of many female musicians(especially bassists) that are so great like yourself!!
Thank you! Keep up the good work on bass and let me know if I can help with anything :)
Coffee (etc), which is greater...the painting or the artist?
Time for illumination honestly
@@LaurenPierceBass you are fantastic and I am trying to learn cello but lessons are to expensive and online too but idk if my ADHD affects me but do you know any free online teachers that teach specifically? If you do that would be awesome
Same I'm a female bassist and I find it REALLY inspiring when I see people like you on UA-cam.
That's some pain in the ass instrument to lug around but when played like this it is out of this world beautiful. There is something so emotional about the sound that words can't describe. It reaches directly to the soul and is hauntingly stunning, sad and happy at the same time. I play guitar only but if I took up another instrument it would have to be the cello:)
Yesssss
Plot twist: This is a double bass 😊
Это контробас.
its not a cello
This so brilliant! I'm hearing whole different parts of this piece that I've never even realised before. You are so inspiring!!!
Your hand at 1:59! How is that possible! Amazing
Amazing, really amazing Lauren. You can see all the effort you put into that piece of music.
I love your tone and the natural reverb this room has. Really fantastic performance
Thank you Lauren for having brought the magic of Bach on our beloved instrument in such a wonderful soul playing mode
The sigh and look to heaven at the end made it for me. I have had that same feeling so many times (after playing Mary Had a Little Lamb) - it just made me feel better. Thx for working so hard at something we get to share with you.
You make it look easy! Great intonation!
You are playing wonderful. Awesome finger technique. This piece is so soothing for the sould.
Never knew this piece was possible on the Bass...😱😱😱 that was awesome! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Many thanks & many thumbs for sharing & showing ur wonder-filled talent
A nice, well meaning comment. But actually, I don't buy the "talent" explanation. Rather, I'd be inclined to compliment Lauren's dedication and love of the instrument - that gorgeous sound comes from practice, practice and practice.
I've had this argument with many people, especially in the field of Jazz. So many people say Charlie Parker was an amazing talent. But I don't think anyone would have heard of him - if he hadn't practised THIRTEEN HOURS A DAY! (..that was what was amazing about him).
Oh my! That was FANTASTIQUE! Bravo Lauren!
It's so nice to have a bass player finally show up on youtube. Very beautiful song!
As always, fantastic! I loved it, very fascinating interpretation!
FANTASTIC!
Fantastic to see that caliber of virtuosity, especially on a double bass!
Thank you for you’re a great contribution to us !
Your bass work is so cello-escent - if that is a word....❤️❤️❤️
Brava, very nicely done Lauren! God, you must have strong hands! I started on the String Bass and Cello as a boy, being trained by the principal bassist of the Cleveland Orchestra. When I switched to electric bass at 13, it was like playing a toy...Ha! Though then I ended up earning my BA as a guitarist, and back to school for my MA as a pianist in my 40's. I just had to learn them all...Ha! It's great to see a good channel for bassists. After all, they are often the "foundation" of the orchestra and chordal movement...Peace!
OMG You are so fluffing amazing! Props to you Lauren :)
Beautifully played, Lauren! and impressive upright chops!
That was freaking amazing!!!
Lovely. Really love your dynamics and phrasing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful, Lauren.
Beautiful!
I could listen to you talk all day
Compliments! A work of art!
Congratulations, that sounds awesome!!
Wonderful!
Awesome! Sounds even better on bass.
freaking incredible
incredible!!
Excellent intonation
So inspired. Thanks for sharing.
such a beautiful sounding instrument. nothing resonates like a low E
Yeah, Lauren! ❤️❤️❤️
That shredded. Awesome job :)
You are just incredible.
the bow work was magical
Haven’t touched my bass in like 4 years. Seeing such awesome skill makes me sad I’m out of practice.
I really enjoy exhale at the end..... Tension and release.. What it's all about
Linda performance !!
Brava, Lauren!
You make beautiful sound. The piece is nice on its own, but the color and emotion trully comes from the player. And that was awesome 😉
this music is for cello and you played on an upright, you're awesome!
killing it once again Lauren! would love to meet you someday! :)
¡Increíble!
Bravo 👏👏👏 ♪
Beautiful
Excellent Lauren, unbelievable, female Casals on the bass!
Very fluid.
Damn your so talented and you have such good sound im jealous
*you're *I'm
Love this... the timbre is so nice with the double bass... I love the string crossings.. a lot of stretching.. I am guessing coz the bass is tuned to forths rather than fifths. Really Awesome :)
amazing!!!
no way. I'm actually performing this piece for an audition and I was checking a couple of days ago to see if you played it. Great job, btw.
Awesome intonation
Very cool. 😀 i play that on my cello once in a while.
very #cool Good luck with your playing Lauren!
Powerful!
the 66 dislikes are from cello players upset she’s playing it better on a bass than they can with cellos😂
I think people just have a really high expectation of this song after yo yo ma killed it so hard with his rendition.
@@rumplefourskin6775 why did i read that as yo mama
@Jason Sypher oh for sure, I was just joking haha. Personally, when I played this piece for conservatory auditions, I too played it at a much slower tempo. I think that’s the beauty of the piece, however. It can be played slow, and almost sappy, but can also be performed at a higher tempo, which can show off the technical skills of the player. Lots of variety, what’s not to love
@@samuelthompson2192 Yes, and I thought for a few moments, do I want to leave what appears to be a slightly negative comment on a fellow bassist. But, we musicians are used to some critique! I, for myself, hate the sappy versions! I lean more towards Edgars rather plaintive reading (although my wife hates it). I'm also in a heavy Joel Quarrington phase and I am awed by his sonority, again totally different in fifths tuning. LP is very smooth. Her bowing is very cellistic here. I am so appreciative of this reading as it is a great resource for bassist who did not go to the conservatory to see it played up close. She is also not in the best acoustic space. As we speed up the tempo we lose some sonority. There simple isn't time for the bass to vibrate fully. We all deal with this. She is fantastic. I'd love to hear her play it five clicks down on the metronome!
Perfect!
Seriously ...wtf! This is so good! You play VERY VERY well... please never stop. ever.
Impresionante!!!!You are so really good!!!!
Marvellous
Excellent
Bravo!
Masterly. Superb 👏👏👏👏👏
Ha, I am a violinist who sometimes plays Bach cello pieces on the viola to try to capture some tiny part of the thrill of a deeper toned instrument. So much more heroic on the cello and even more so on the double bass!
Wish I had UA-cam growing up as a musician. Kids of today are really spoiled to have a bassist like this play in front of u.
I love it
Your register changes and left hand thumb work are terrifying. Intonation fabulous as usual. But above all, I love the liberties you take with the tempo and phrasing, and your dynamics are so enjoyable. I love Bach, but this is not my favorite piece of music. At the same time, though, what a marvelous solo piece, and a great vehicle for demonstrating a well proportioned combination of technique and lyricism. Brava!
Happy to be the 1000th like for this video. Excellent music.
really good !
Cool and ultra-classy.
Lovely. ..
lindo....simplesmente. ...lindo
Nice bass!!! nice sound!!!
Impressionante
Incredible and articulation with the bow you really imitate which is the whole point of performing Bach on the double bass but I’d rather listen to this than a cello this is a baroque piece and you satisfy me with ur incredible sound perfect imitation of a cello and more sounds better than a cello
No idea why this came up when searching guitar amps... but wow, very impressive and you are very beautiful.
You're amazing
wow,just wow.....
Great! Best! Awesome! Wonderful! Maravilhoso! Lindo! Perfeito! Perfecto!
You are amazing! ;)
Exceptionnel !!!
My dear Jesus! BRAVO! BRAVO!
Bravo.. congrats
Bravo! Amazing finger strength, bow control, and tone! What string height do you recommend and what is your height in this recording ?
BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I agree 100% with Samuel Thompson, because I used to play cello for a couple years but never so fast and uninterrupted, I do play the Bach solos on clarinet, flute and sax and it is easier. Maybe it is easier on Double Bass or she is crazy talented. Also you can see all the hours of practice come thru. Being a musician all the hours we put in for a 15 seconds applause. My friend said in his performances after he finished "The applause is the food of a musician, thank you for that sandwich that you have given me!"
please, up the complete suite
I wish I would be this good in about few years
Now that’s a workout !!
killing!
Very good.
Bravo
Very nice
I wish I had better headphones to experience this, you're totally awesome.
Omg that tone wow
Aw thank you!
@@LaurenPierceBass In your tutorial videos you were in E Standard tuning, but here in this one you're in F-sharp Standard tuning. Aren't those dots on the fingerboard a guide to find the harmonics?
Why is the string not vibrateing
Mabe it vibrate so fast i cant see it. Yeah
Major hand cramp at the finale.
