Awesome! Thank you!
Good stuff!
As an electric bassist who wishes he had come to the double bass decades ago, when the band director in high school was recruiting trombone players to play string bass for the orchestra, I am learning so much from you and your uploads! Thx.
That’s great to hear! Best wishes on your double bass playing-it’s a fun instrument for sure.

Thanks! You have certainly helped me navigate the journey. Indeed, it has been fun and very rewarding thus far. It will only go up from here; I'm betting the cycle of "fourths" on it! 🤣 👍🏿
Good luck
👅 drop ftw!
I'm amazed with Joel Braun's playing 👏👏👏👏
He’s great!
Great video! Was skeptical about the tongue but it's real!
tone depends on many parameters ! Firstly, it is a solo, or an orchestra. second: it's the foundation bass, or the theme, there's a lot of options! location + pressure + bow speed and quantity ,whether vibration is needed or not, a warm tone, or a little brighter..
pizz also has many tone options: you need to thoroughly - do not use G string if these are arias, or pizz needs to be taken denser, D string is better, A string, positions higher, the string is thicker, will give a thicker and softer sound. use two fingers in the game, if extremely sharp - vice versa.
For sure-good advice!
Super cool seeing Joel Braun in action- I'm gonna be at Eastern Music Festival this summer where he'll be teaching, so it'd be great to get to study with him.
Joel is the best-you’ll learn so much from him!
Thankyou, very helpful!!
You're welcome!
Maravilha!!!
What an odd fingering for the Bottesini concerto at 2:50. I’ll have to try it.
if you found use in the tongue trick, you may love learning some alexander technique, it works wonders!
I did a little Alexander technique back in the 90s-it was really helpful.
I'm enjoying your videos and picking up some good tips. As an aside, do you have a link where I can buy one of the t-shirts you're wearing?
Thanks for the kind words! You bet-we’ve got T-shirts and more here: shop.doublebasshq.com/collections/merch
Does anyone know where can I find the Prokofiev quintet recording that Alex Hanna did? Thanks 🙂
during the tongue drop portion what is that song being played by you and alex hanna?
It's the first movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 39--great piece!
The tongue out comes from Michael Jordan. That is why he was so good and loose.
