That baby eating that meatball sandwich. I'm Italian American and that just touched my soul. I'm glad y'all loved it that sweet baby only stopped eating that meatball sub just to watch y'all eat yours. Thanks for sharing your videos. I hope you know she steals the show most the time ...
This was so much fun to watch! Cowboy Kent Rollins’ cheesy meatball sub recipe looks absolutely mouthwatering, and seeing the Brits' reactions made it even better. Thank you for sharing this tasty and entertaining taste test!
The way Elana was staring at Mrs. H's cheese pull at 2:24 and then says "me" cracked me up so hard! lol These look delicious, but of course they are if they come from Kent's repertoire.
When I worked at the sub/pizza place, we wouldn't split the sub open, we'd take a knife and hollow out the inside of the sub roll and put the sauce, meatballs and cheese inside the roll. Sometimes, if they wanted it toasted, we would put it into the pizza oven for a couple of minutes.
little meatball sub hack from a sub lifer, the index finger on the forward hand can be used to press down on the front meatball when you take a bite just to keep it from popping out of the sandwich, completely allowed. and although your finger gets a little messy, it's infinitely cleaner than having a meatball jump out and roll down your shirt.
Years ago (70's and 80"s) before the big chains ran all of the mom and pop sandwich shops out of business you could find unique and delicious sandwich like meatball subs everywhere around LA. Now it is almost impossible to find a good sandwich from a small sandwich shop.
Mrs H, if I eat a meatball hero (as we say here in New York), I cut the meatballs into pieces to make it more manageable to eat. The men in my house, hubby and adult son, get theirs made with whole meatballs. For my meatball mixture, I like to grate the onion on a box grater.
Meatball subs are the best!! I like to split the roll and take out a bit of the bread then I put provalone cheese inside then the fried onions followed by the meatballs. But Ive had them made all differant ways and the only way I dont like them is when we dont have them lol.
Those looked really good!! I remember when I was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado way back in 1986 for Illustrator / Graphic Arts school ... (wow... almost 40 years ago... now I really feel old!!) A friend of mine and I went to the mall and stopped in at a Deli / restaurant that served amazing meatball subs! The meatballs were so big, it was more of an open faced sandwich covered with freshly sliced provolone cheese melted on top. You had to eat it with a fork and a knife!! I'm dribblin' just thinking about it ... those were the days!!! I could eat stuff like that and not worry about it, we had PT ... physical training) the next day and burn off all those calories and carbs. Now I watch you all enjoy all that delicious food.... and it doesn't affect my waistline... lol!! I sure am glad you decided to start doing "Cooking with H videos"... and I'm sure Elana is enjoying it too!! ❤😊❤😊 I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas... watching Elana open her gifts was probably a lot of fun!!!
I hope my favorite british family had a wonderful christmas. Im sure Santa had his hands full with all the gifts you all deserved. There isnt much better than a meatball sub thats for sure and those look scrumptious. Take care from fla usa. ❤❤❤
That looked really good! I agree that meatball subs are difficult to eat without making a mess. Miss Elana really enjoyed it! Loved the look of concentration when she watched her mummy so closely, and then copied what you were doing. 💖
" I was afraid there was going to be too much garlic" Italian American card revoked. " I was afraid there was going to be too much cheese" ..... too much cheese on a "Cheesy" meatball sub?
Next time open up your rolls and turn them into cheesy garlic bread before you construct your sandwiches. And don't just do it for your meatball sub sandwiches either, garlic bread rolls go well with pretty much any kind of sandwich filling.
"Hey" from the Tampa Bay area of Florida, USA. Hope y'all duper super ! Looks like ya did another outstanding job Mrs. H. A good meatball sub is one of my favorites too. Glad to see y'all enjoyed the heck outta ya first attempt at a homemade version. I'm a lazy old man that requires a local sandwich shop for me to get my hands on one. I got a local place that makes killa meatball subs and philly cheese steak sandwiches that I get from time to time. Guessing ya homemade version tastes considerable better and I'm glad to hear/see that. Well done ! Have fun, be happy and best to ya for the upcoming new year ! :)
I just watched a video on UA-cam yesterday of an Italian guy showing how meatball sandwiches are served at the place where they started. Apparently, the loaf is cut at about 6 or 8 inches and then hollowed out, leaving the butt of the bread intact. They then fill the empty space with sauce and meatballs. You can eat a whole meatball sandwich with one hand, and never make a mess.
Great job, Mrs. H. Those sandwiches look delicious. I'm going to try making them. Add a little grated parm and they're fantastic. Another tip is to add french fried onions like Durkee's. They probably don't have them in England, but they must have an equivalent there. That's so cute that Elana dug right in. She's so adorable.
"Do you like my hat?" From Go Dog Go, by PD Eastman. A fab little book Elana might like. And, yes I love your hat. Great job on the Meatball sub! It's a big one! BLY!
❤A great Meatball Sub will change your life. Loved Mr H's Cowboy Kent dance🤠Elana went to work on that sub😂loved seeing y'all enjoying your sandwiches and covered in marinara....it has to be messy.
2 things, you could try next time, pull some of the inner part of the roll out, { to make a deeper trench in the roll}, or use the back of a fork to push the meatballs deeper into the roll. Then, grip it, and squeeze to compress.
Many people will probably disagree with me(and that's ok) but when I make a meatball sandwich; I just make one long meatball stuffed with cheese in the middle (grated onions and bacon in the mixture) ,a quick sear on all sides then finish cooking it in the marinara sauce! It is very moist, lots of flavor. I just prefer a sandwich I don't have to fight to eat. ❤
I drop my meatballs raw into hot tomato sauce. They cook in about a half hour or so. Cooking them in the sauce adds to the taste of the meatballs & also adds to the taste of the sauce! Do not boil; softly simmer. I don't use marinara coz I have Acid Reflux & it gives me heartburn; I use Paul Newman's Sockarooni instead. You don't have to add any seasonings to Paul Newman's Sockarooni because it comes perfect as is! Yummy 😋
Love a good meatball sub, with that said I cut my meatballs in half. Cut in half and put in roll/bread flat side facing bread lined up next to each other, only then can I get an all in one bite of everything😊
I would suggest cutting the meatballs in half and putting them in the sub. Meatball itself is very thick and then you have the bread on both side sides, making it even thicker. Streamline down and just use half of a meatball throughout the sub sandwich.
Great video and reaction! When the meatballs are this big and the sauce and cheese plentiful, i personally think a knife and fork are acceptable. I'd hate to lose any of the goodness!
I don’t know, too many great items! Those we’ve made more the once though: French dip sandwich, banana pudding, bbq, peach cobbler, pecan pie, deviled eggs!
@@BritishFamily I'm going to give you the easiest recipe there is. My mother made it when she was running low on money, but it's a favorite and my husband shovels it down every time. First 1lb of macaroni noodles, cook till done drain, while the noodles are cooking, fry 1lb of ground beef, chopping it up, add 1 medium white onion, chopped fine. Stir and cook until done. Add the ground beef to the drained noodles , then add last item. Ketchup to taste. Enjoy! It's easy, fast and not expensive. Let me know what you think
Wow, they looked awesome, and you're right, there really is no way to eat a meatball sub neatly. Bet you'll never buy those store bought meatballs anymore. I don't like them at all but I love homemade meatballs. Another sub we have that's very similar is called a pizza burger sub, and they are perfect when you don't have time to make meatballs. Just substitute the meatball with a hamburger. It's not as flavorful, but still delicious and saves you a step. If I make meatballs for spaghetti I make them the size you made them but if I know I'm making meatball subs I make the meatballs half the size and just put more of them on the sub. It makes it easier to eat.
@@BritishFamily Have you ever visited Maryland and sampled Maryland crab cakes? If not, I would love to host you and prepare some crab cakes for your lovely family. I was raised in Texas and I make a pretty good pot chili and can smoke a mean brisket. But having lived in Maryland since 1991 (due to military assignment for the US Marine Band), I've learned some tricks for making crab cakes. Everyone loves them. (Hmmmm....maybe I should start a UA-cam channel...LOL)
If your face doesn't look like Elanas' you're eating it wrong 😂 😂 !!!! If too much bread you can always pull out a little line down the middle of each side, will make the meatballs fit better too.
If you can find some good italian sausage links, cook them up with green pepper and onions and spoon that marinara sauce on top- Even a better hoagie than the meatball--- Trust me !!!
Large meatballs are stupid on a sub. I don't know why we do this in america. Smaller meatballs mean more meatballs an more manageable. This is where "the bigger the better" fails

The way Elana's tucking in to that meatball sandwhich I'd be careful. You might lose a finger if you get too close to her sandwhich! 😉☝👄
The little one was so proud of herself for tearing off a piece and eating from it as she saw mommy do. "I did it!"

Baby? She's a toddler.
When the meatballs are big, I cut them in half. Makes eating the sandwich much easier. 👍
So impressed that Alana ate more of Cowboy Kent's cheese meatballs than almost anything else she has eaten in your videos. Except the ice cream !!
she was chowing down!!
@@tonygunk9810 The exact correct cowboy word !!

If you don’t want pieces of onion, try grating the onion. Julia Child’s trick from years ago.
That works so well!

Crazy idea: slice the meatballs in half and make a grilled cheese sandwich with meatballs. Use the marinara sauce as the dip.
Haaaa…..YES!!!
The meatball sub can’t go wrong with that🎉😂❤
Love your reaction. Philadelphian here. Been eating these for over 50 years. Love them. We have great sandwiches here in tne Philly area.

Meatball subs are one of the few sandwiches I eat with a knife and fork.
Mr. H said "Ladies first" not because of manners but because he wanted to see how you would figure out how to eat it 😂

Meatball sandwiches 🥪 are great ❤😊!
Make smaller meatballs, or cut them up to fit the bun.
It is okay to use a knife and fork if its too big. Elana has an idea. She's just tearing better handling size chunks apart from the main sandwich.
Great video and reaction! When the meatballs are this big and the sauce and cheese plentiful, i personally think a knife and fork are acceptable. I'd hate to lose any of the goodness!
Love a good meatball sandwich ❤
You gotta go all in,❤ from California USA

Elana will grow up to be a great cook cooking with mom
We often call these”Grinders” or meatball grinders and no I don’t know where the name comes from but maybe because the meat was ground???
Messy food is the very BEST!!!
It will make a great spaghetti and meatballs.

Dang, that looks good! But my days of eating like that are over 😢

Try candied jalapeños
Try cutting the meatballs in half before making your sub. It'll help

YES !!!!!! HAS TO HAVE TOASTED ROLLS
She is darling!
She is getting so big..
yummmmm

It's difficult to find a good meatball recipe.
Large meatballs are stupid on a sub. I don't know why we do this in america. Smaller meatballs mean more meatballs an more manageable. This is where "the bigger the better" fails
Your not doing it right if it's not messy .
It's not cheesy meatball sandwiches. It is meatball Parmigian sandwich covered in mozzarella cheese. Because cheddar does not belong on Italian food.
Too much cheese
