I think it is a very fair assessment. He definitely still has the chance to prove himself but he is very quickly running out of time, and unless he quickly turns things around, instead of fighting for a Red Bull seat, he is now fighting to keep his seat anywhere on the grid.
Given his age and general trend, beating Yuki is the bare minimum, he needs to convincingly start outperforming him, or else, why would they pick a more expensive and aging driver when you could pick somebody like Yuki or Liam who will be much cheaper with much more growth potential?

I mean getting injured in only his 3rd race back must have hurt
Also things keep going wrong, ALWAYS
-Hit on lap 1 in Hungary and sustained damage for the race
-Track limits cost him in Q1 in Spa and the wet setup was wrong
      -Injury in Zandvoort practice
      -Brake duct problems in COTA
      -Badly timed SC in Mexico
-Hit by errant tyre on lap 1 in Brazil and lost a lap
      -AT were slowest in Vegas
-Tear off in the brake duct in Abu Dhabi
-His teammate backed him up into blue flags in Bahrain, then took his anger out against him on the cool down lap
-Had a 40-second pitstop which dropped him to last in Jeddah
When you get absolutely fucked over, week in, week out, and all people can talk about is how you are “washed” and “there for PR” yeah it probably hurts your spirit

That's exactly the issue: people talk about "the real Ricciardo" and "McLaren Ricciardo" as if they are two different things, but back to reality, "McLaren Ricciardo" is exactly his real self now, his last good season was a long time ago. Unable to adapt to driving styles and car setups? Not willing to put the hard graft at the sim? Just outright slow and out of mojo? Call it whatever you cant: he just doesnt seem confident at all right now, and on top of this we keep getting sold this facade of fake smiles, a lot of "funny" "content" and TikToks, that's just who he is atm. Basically a PR/media clown with an F1 seat.

I would urge Ricciardo to start spending more time in the simulator like Verstappen does. These expense simulators seem to be so good it is almost like getting more track time in the car. Verstappen is the new breed where he spends lots of hours in a simulator driving F1 and many different cars. This gives Verstappen more knowledge and experience on setup and how to adjusting a driving style to match what the sim car needs to go fast. This seems to be hugely different than Ricciardo's one driving style the car needs to match for him to go fast?

Why do so many people think this is a contest between Daniel and Yuki? Yuki is no chance of moving up to Red Bull. If he carries on the way he is and outperforming Daniel it means Daniel will likely be dropped and Yuki remains at RB alongside Lawson. If Checo is dropped from the senior team along with Daniel it will be to bring in someone else. Yuki is a decent driver and is currently doing the better job but he is no chance to replace Checo.

    • @anameyoucantremember
      @anameyoucantremember 3 місяці тому

@@NotApplicableF1The thing is, there's no Ricc vs Perez. That's a figment of the F1 media's imagination and either DR3 fans or Perez haters.
Perez is only battling himself (as in, he only needs to help win the WCC to secure whatever contract he wants). Ricc is a fan service gimmick and a virtue signaling puppet for Red Bull and unless he does some actual miracle drives, he's not even sniffing that second Red Bull seat.
As it stands, DR and SP are basically at the same level (statistically are almost identical), but Perez carries a lot of weight for the American market and specially Ford (which has a HUGE market in Latin America). Danny doesn't, notwithstanding how much he "likes" the USA or wear silly cowboy hats and rides a horse into COTA.
I also tend to believe that at this stage Max likes Perez better than Danny. Max seems to be settling down and Perez, being a family man and more on the quiet side of the stardom, matches better with Max's preferences and life style. Maybe having a party-viva-la-vie personality like Danny won't be so well received by this older, more focused Max.
I think Perez will remain for 2025 and Dany will go to Indy.

I think that RBR has already given up on Yuki being part of their future bc of Honda leaving. But that doesn’t mean he cannot make a statement and try and beat DR at every chance. I think it’s too early to say he is done and I am saying that bc everyone and their mother were retiring Checo last year. Het rn he is the font runner for that seat in 2025. Too early to set a trend on either of these drivers, but I think that this keeps going by summer break, i don’t think RBR will have much arguments to move DR to RB or to not renew Checo.

I do agree with what you said about the car not being where Daniel can trust it to really send it through the corners the way that was so common for him drive when he drove the Red Bull. It’s going to be interesting to see if they develop that car in the style that Daniel likes going forward. The only reasons why I think Daniel still has a real chance of getting the Red Bull seat is because of the tire test last year at Silverstone were by Silverstone. We know the car for Red Bull was more set up in maxes driving style. And because of all the turmoil they have going on if they do have to make big structural changes for next season, they might need their golden boy within the media come forward and help them through it with the top team. I personally do not see them going with Yuki if just because Yuki has shown talent, but he’s also shown that he’s not always the easiest to work with an especially after Yuki‘s temper tantrum at the first race, I can’t see to take in putting him with Max purely because they know that Max needs a solid number two not someone that’s going to cause problems and given all the drama and controversy, I do not see them wanting to put a potentially problematic teammate with Max. I think Yuki has talent, but I just don’t think he will ever be chosen for the Red Bull seat. I think if they thought he was gonna cut it they would’ve at least tried to see how things would go, but I do not see him being a teammate of maxes how many years he’s been in the sport at this point how much he’s improved. he has improved significantly since his first season, but I still don’t think Yuki has demonstrated enough that he belongs at the top team.
