The Marlboro cars are still the most iconic liveries ever.
Benson and Hedges "Be on Edge" was a genius sponsorship ploy. When the sponsors are more entertaining than the sport, you know something has to be done.

Annoying how vaping sponsors are still allowed which are owned by the same companies and is even more addictive and just as bad for health. So the only thing the tobacco ban changed was we lost the awesome liveries...

Tobacco companies easily had the best liveries out there everyone loves the Marlboro McLarens and Ferraris but we also had the Camel lotus/benneton/williams and Rothmans williams as well as the Mild Seven Renault

I miss tobacco sponsorship in F1.

@@anthonyramos9841 Tobacco sponsorships were iconic. They reinforced the badass, rockstar, manly qualities of F1.
If they allowed F1 tobacco advertising to continue in 199 it was $82m now it would be $$$$$$$ms. Pulse it would put smaller teams out of business faster than they already were. In 2002 Ferrari had about $500m race budget and Minardi had just $38m for the year, that could never compete because tobacco advertising wouldn’t be interested in them they would only want top teams. Because TV viewership was more important. Yes tobacco certainly made Formula One interesting and allowed Formula One to grow in the way it did and therefore we should be grateful for that but there was a point teams at the time making every team posted a loss, with the budget cap and everything else all teams are making profits. This is good for Formula One. May not be good for the fans because it’s still team winning everything but it’s good for the sport for stability.

You forgot FTX, the money-launderers, who sponsored Mercedes up until 2022.
Still don't understand why tobacco sponsorship is banned, but shady crypto,gambling, energy drinks and alcohol is allowed on tracks and cars.
F1 has become a joke.
You missed out Arrows and thier infamous T minus sponsorship from a "Nigerian Prince" called Prince Malik in 1999

Why do the tobacco sponsors always give us the best liveries, from Marlboro Mclaren and Ferrari, Camel’s lotus, Williams and Benetton, Rothmans Williams to Mild Seven’s renault and West’s Mclarens

FWIW Gunston were actually the first team, not Lotus. Lotus got into beef with IIRC the BBC over the having Gold Leaf on their cars though an Chapman got the Beeb to back down. OTOH, USAC/AAA and NASCAR had sponsorship for about 10-12 years by this point though.
As a new f1 fan I was quite intrigued by this video

I never heard of West Cigarettes! The cigarettes I know are Marlboro, Zig-Zag, Camel, and Newport! Even though Cigarettes and Vapes are my worst enemies! 🚭

Honestly the binladen family’s construction company for witch osama was disowned is the least controversial of them all if you know the binladen family history
My biggest problem with the tobacco company’s was they knew in insurance companies figured out in the 50s/60s that cigarettes caused cancer the removal of alcohol in the same way was to heavy handed
McLaren changed it form West to East for some races
BAT payed the ticket for my first GP in Germany in 1998.
I don’t know most modern sponsors. Heineken are a bunch of hypocrites.
F1 pretending to be so social and all. Lot of shady stuff over the years.
We lost great liveries with the tobaccoban.
The most recent dodgy sponsorship was the Russian sponsorship of Mazipan by very dodgy oligarchs. Take that as you will knowing what you know about the family and their “connections” in Russia.

@@DailyFuelUp 😂 no just seemed like the obvious one probably because it’s recent. I think there’s a lot we don’t know about that sponsorship and probably don’t want to know so we can close our eyes and pretend it didn’t happen.
@@DailyFuelUp Don't forget about Velo . They are basically a tobacco company that makes expensive version of snus. Their logo are still on the McLaren in 2023

Sponsor liveries made people smoke more, not more smokers.
Seeing old footage from all racing classes (F1, Rally, Dakar) with the old school cars, old school drivers and old school Tobacco liveries makes smoking looking cooler than any current livery could possibly do. I'm not drawn to any product currently advertised on the grid but d*mn, I am drawn to those cigarette brands.
However, I do not smoke and I am not going to but it looks so cool. Especially because you don't see it anymore.
