  • I talk a lot, it seems, to friends and peers within the photographic community about legacy. This without doubt is a legacy film about one of the most generous professionals I have ever had the privilege to get to know. It'll become clearer why it holds that label as the film progresses, suffice to say it was a tricky one to edit.
Steve is a celeb photographer, a commercial photographer, a portrait photographer, a wedding photographer, a product photographer. He's all those things. Embracingly and unashamedly. He's also a family man. And a friend to a great many professionals in the UK and I dare say further afield too.
And though you may not have heard of Steve, I think after you watch this short film about his photography, you'll sense you've known him a while. Well, that is my hope at any rate.

What a lovely film (and man). It's always sad when you find a "new" photographer, only to find out at the end of the video that he recently died. These kinds of videos inspires me so much and have a tendency to cure my gear acquisition syndrome(at least for a few days).

On the flip-side, I did discover your channel yesterday and it was a real treat :-) I spent a few hours last night, watching some of your videos and the quality level is REALLY good. A man whom I’d loved to have assisted back in the day. What a wonderful interview. On asking him what’s so special about Amanda, that look as he thought was magical. We had a good chat and I was heartened to see that slung over her shoulder, was dear Steve's X100F. I'll break it to you right away: I cried listening to this episode of the podcast. Yes, I cried. I don't know why exactly, but the word that comes to mind is: Essence. So many essential elements came together for me in this story: decisive moment, being humble and kind, photography as a way of capturing people's true self, simple and elegant composition and lighting. Thank you so much for putting this together so beautifully. So glad to have met you in Bath at the Fuji X conference. Please make me cry more often. :)

Wow, what a pleasant surprise to find this, by chance, when browsing the KAGE Collective website. I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’d not heard of Steve before this, though I certainly recall seeing some of his work in the past. However, this beautifully shot, edited and produced video certainly rectified that and was so wonderfully intimate, it made you almost feel like you had known him for years before you were even half way through watching it - which I guess is both a testament to the quality of your work as much as the open nature of your subject. Thank you so much. I’m sure you are as proud of it as Steve’s family are (and if not you should be). A very moving and fitting portrait of a very fine portrait photographer. Well done 🙌
