If you cant release the layers as shown, do not toggle select all layers and release to sequence, it yields no result. Instead, just select (highlight) the main layer and release. This is what worked for me.

this doesnt work when you open after effects import the ai working fiile and double click your layers are all there in the timeline. mine isnt it just opens as one lasyer
When I import my AI Illustrator file, I cannot see anything in After Effects. Also the layers are not there.
So in the end we still need to set up the same exact like the same??? X_X

The ''Composition - Retain layer sizes'' isn't available for me
Import as Composition was not an option for my computer only import as footage was an option however there was a check box for Create Composition.

So these are two ways to import - one by importing layers from an illustrator file and converting them to shapes, and another is by importing PNG files? But there's also the option of retaining the layers from the illustrator file, with the added benefit of being able to update the Adobe Illustrator file and having layer colors in After Effects update, for example.

If we start off our Adobe illustrator file creating each assets on different layers from the beginning, do we still have to release to layers sequence if we already had everything set up on different layers and not underneath one? just wondering thanks!

When i am exporting assets then retain layers option is not showing only footage its problem
Help!!! I'm following step by step, but when it exports assets, it does it as a folder called "1x" instead of a .ai file. Also, I've renamed the released layers but the asset export thingy doesn't pick it up and registers as "asset 20, asset 21" and such

@@usuariogoogle2264 yup, turns out, he does the exporting thing one by one for complicated projects, so you can rearrange them yourself. The better way to solve it that I found is to export it from illustrator as a .ai file and then open that in AE. You can insert the 1x file too, but it won’t be arranged exactly like your AI project

When I import the .ai into ae, it creates exactly a single layer. All the assets in the export folder are ignored. Unfortunately, the clip does not explain how the .ai file is created so that it links the data from the asset folder individually.

I followed your steps. But if i import my ai file i get only a screen of color instead of my shapes. what am i doing wrong? hope you can help me

Lot os possibilities are there. Please check the scale value in after effects.
Maybe Your illustrator shapes Size is higher than the After effects composition size.
Idk if its still useful but my problem was that the AI file was not compatible with PDF

When you drag al you layers t your Asset Export window, is that step only needed for the second method you use to import in to AE?
Yeah, the first step is preparing your illustrator vector file to be imported, the second method is exporting and importing raster files (jpg, png)

Why you created shape from vector layers ? Is it due to file size ?
For me it’s personal preference, I normally use Illustrator to design.
still no able impot illustrator file to after effects
Is there any way to import the content from illustrator to After Effects but keeping the editable features of the text to use the text presets from after? Or what do you recomend me to my workspace because in shape mode the text is hard to animate.
You can Covert Layer to text but from Ps file, not sure about AI tho ;x

Why not? Some people like having multiple ways of working
you saved them as png and in aftereffects imported as .ai so
At 0:56 I mention the working file (.ai) is ready to be imported into After Effects. The second way I show you is by exporting PNG files to be imported into After Effects

Just save your Ai file and import in after effects..double click the file.. you will have everything.. simple as that
