One of the few guys who was both a great college player and professional nba player. Kirk to me has always deserved more recognition as a professional player due to his ability to defend at a very high level and as a leader.
It's always been interesting to me, if he would have gone to a smaller program that needed him to score a lot, he could have scored 25+ a game his Junior/Senior years. Superbly talented. To this day, one of the best guards all around guards KU has had. Sherron's senior was special. Mason and Graham's senior years were special. Dotson's Sophomore campaign was awesome. But Kirk is a perfect guard to have in March Madness. I really wish he could have captured a title. Just not enough bench on the 2003 team. Plus, teams that are truly 5-6 deep usually run out of gas. I think that is why we missed so many free throws against Syracuse. Their legs were playing on sheer adrenaline. It is special to go to back to back final fours. A rare feat. EDIT: Also, we lost Simien mid season to a fluke shoulder injury. With him, KU absolutely wins it all. We still got damn close with Gravy starting!
Kansas Jayhawks MISSED eighteen Free Throws vs Syracuse. Lol, smh...18 FTs...MISSED! I mean that's gotta be an All-time National Title Game Record. Kansas lost by only 3 points? Lol... Um No Soph PF Wayne Simien (15ppg/8rpg) + 18 missed Free Throws? ....and Syracuse damn near lost? Cuse won game in 1stHalf despite no Wayne Simien (future Naismith NPOY in 2005.) Fr SG Gerry McNamara for Syracuse went 6/6 3Pointers b4 Halftime. ^^^THIS + KU's misfortunes won game. Add in KU missing literally 18 FTs plus lets say if Soph. Wayne Simien had played, but had off night? Simien STILL gives KU "6pts/6rebs.". ^^^ Just those extra stats ALONE! Would've won game despite an unheard of EIGHTEEN Free Throws missed. Or if KU had just missed 15 FTs? KU wins. Lol.. I'm 47, been a Hawks fan since 1986. My #1 MOST PAINFULL L? (2011 Elite8 vs VCU. Was ridiculous. I've NEVER forgiving Morningstar or Reed. F them! Idc. Both apart of 2 of biggest upsets in KU's Tournament History. 2010 vs UNI/2011 vs VCU. KU teams were so deep? Our benches damn near won the National Title in 2012!) 2nd? (2003 National Title Game. KU wins 16 out 20 times. WITHOUT Wayne Simien. With Simien? 19/20 Kansas beats Cuse.)
@@jasonpeters9865 spot on. Even with all that, you know Mike Lee would have tied it with that three. Man, I still can't watch that game again. And yeah, 18 fee throws missed... It has to be a record
@@twoquickii1330 K. Langford getting that bogus foul called on him to me, was the nail in the coffin, but if they even hit 50 % in free throws, they celebrate in style that night. Carmelo Anthony was mismatch hell...
KU with Gooden in 2001-02 was insane. Maryland frontcourt just got all no calls in 02 National Semis. So that 4-headed Terps Frontcourt was able play alot mins
5:13-5:18...Kirk's breakaway vs that VERY VERY VERY good Texas team...Hinrich takes on 3 Longhorns and puts sum "english" on his floating layup so it wouldn't get SWATTED! Kirk Hinrich has been my FAVORITE Jayhawks Basketball Player since late in his Sophomore Season. So since 2000.
IDC what ANYONE says.....1993-2003 with Dick Vitale getting hyped ON-AIR bout various KU players was GOLDEN YEARS for me. ACC imo? Fr 2005-Prsnt was paying Vitale under table. Vitale was always all about BigXII & Kansas...You could tell he became SOOOOO pro ACC later in his career.

Amazing athlete!
Fast break champion.
He was one of the BEST at filling the lane in fast break. He never missed a full speed layup that I can remember.
BigXII has ALWAYS been a GAUNTLET
Tinsley & Fizer? Those ISU teams were tough.
Lololol....one things 4sure? Kirk did Missouri Tigers waaaaay DIRTY!
JaRon Rush was better than both Kareem and Brandon.
(Damn shame...)
Brandon Rush, my 3rd favorite Jayhawk All-Time.
I STILL haven't seen a prettier shooting stroke than SF Kareem Rush.
Lol..I HATE Mizz!
