The best point guard that ever was and ever will be on this planet or any other planet in the known universe or any other multi-verse...Basketball John!
As much as I didn’t like these guys back in the day…this is basketball. None of the bs carrying, walking, palming every dribble, suspending the ball in the air…extra step when you’ve picked up your dribble for a jumper. No hockey assists…the pass leading directly to a basket. Just precision playing and shooting. He’s throwing one incredibly well placed pass after another, mixing in no look dimes, out running greyhound’s to the cup for layup’s. WTF 😬 JUST SCHOOLING folk all over the court…baiting them into passes he can steal. And in case you missed it…he accounted for minimum 76 points. If any 3’s were made…maybe 80!!! They never quite got over the hump, but this was a great team, in an era where cheating wasn’t baked into the rules.
Great point of the palming. It still annoys me that so many players palm the ball. Also, do not forget how disciplined they were while running the lanes. A great point guard will make the big guys run every time down the court. Karl Malone was build like a dinosaur but he ran like a deer. Moreover, huge props to Jerry Sloan for this clean style of basketball.
Everyone KNEW they were going to pick-n-roll but they couldn't stop it. Plus Stockton is known for setting the toughest picks in the league. 6'1", 170, missed 22 games in 19 seasons. No load management for him. If the best ability is availability, there's none better.
If John Stockton played for the Lakers? Well, then AD and LeBron would have better FG% and fewer assists, their record would be dramatically better, and there would be much less non-sense on the floor. The Lakers would have fewer turnovers. AD and LeBron would also enjoy going to the post much more. One of the most underrated part of John Stockton was his post entry passing..Absolutely beautiful and efficient. Also, Darwin Ham would have a secure job as the head coach.
Yes, but I still remember. I also remember his professionalism, but most of all I remember his post-entry passes that allowed his team mate to explode to the basket in one move leaving the defender witless for a Karl Malone dunk or lay-in. This is a truly lost art.
1987-1991 Stockton was his prime. Many people today remember the Stockton of the late 90s years. But he'd be more appreciated if people watch him during his youngher years in his 20s.
They call assists way more liberally now to inflate triple double stats. Look at these Stockton set ups...the receiver often needing at most a single dribble to score. Not all assists are the same when you are comparing eras. Not a passer in today's league at this level.

Kind of hard to not win a few championships when you are surrounded by other hall of famers. So stick that up yer tail pipe Maxie........
Only reason Stockton "far out paced" Magic in assists (not even that far btw) was because his only great skill was throwing the rock to Karl Malone and letting him score. If Stockton didn't have Malone, I guarantee you he wouldn't have as many assists as he did.@@robertbrown3471
And if you are talking about pure points guards/floor leaders, I'd make the argument that Chris Paul is a better pure PG than Stockton.@@robertbrown3471
Not even gonna lie, I'm a John Stockton hater lmao. Do you think Stockton is a better player than Magic or just a better pure PG?@@robertbrown3471
Lol I saw someone saying Stockton wasn’t athletic enough to play nowadays… he freaking blocked David Robinson 😂
People are stupid 😂 Stockton brought the game down to his pace he could and would do that in any era
Nuff said.
It’s very obvious he was highly athletic from some of these finishes, fast break plays, he just deployed his quickness and agility efficiently
The wildest part of this clip is how everyone in the stands was dressed so formally.
28 assists is nba 2k numbers 😮
Exactly what wemby needs
Dude literally had a real life dimer badge
almost had a triple double with steals too haha he must have glove as well
Nash with elite defense on top
John brought out the best in his teammates and his team. Absolutely brilliant.
Magic was the best transition PG, but Stockton was the master of the half-court offense.......
And Nash was a good blend of the two.
@@krisharkleroad8agreed
Stockton would terrorize the league today. He was a beast on the court
Nah
@@standardperson3189 you don’t know basketball then. The dude leads in most steals and most assists all time in a much harder defensive era. The fuck you mean nah 😂
@@juicevino4288 different era different play styles if you put 90’s Stockton in todays era he’s screwed
@@standardperson3189 lmao what? How’s he screwed if there’s no defense today? All 90”s players would smash today. The 90”s were all defense. Low scoring games were the norm.
So how the hell would a guy averaging over 12 assists and 3 steals in the 90”s struggle today when there’s no defense?
Jordan would destroy this cupcake era.
You must not know or watches 90”s basketball. Go look at the comments from today nba players on how goo they think Stockton was. Stockton would kill in todays game. You’re delusional af
@@juicevino4288 Alex Rucker claims that scorekeepers were meant to inflate stats for stars and used John Stockton as an example.
28 assists is insane!
And he did all these without a single jumper. This showed how brilliant Stockton was.
#StocktonLegend
But per Payton he would be 9/12 if he did
no jumper in the whole game? he must suck.

Dude that left handed floater from the elbow. Just beautiful.
Stockton is proof just bc guys today are more "athletic" doesn't mean they are better basketball players.
John Stockton very very goodPlayer great player NBA 😮😮😮😮😮😮
The best point guard that ever was and ever will be on this planet or any other planet in the known universe or any other multi-verse...Basketball John!
Steph Curry would like a word.
@@zacharycox7391 Curry is trash in defence never been even close too Stockton

The purest of PGs ever...
28 assist is insane
Jeff Malone was hooping
There will never be another John Stockton. Offense, Defense and got his teammates involved, literally the prototypical definition of a true PG.
Çok rahat çok profesyonel
this Utah no.24 mid range is so good
Jeff Malone. He had a beautiful jumper from around 15-18 feet. Plus he was around 90% from the foul line. And he loved those corners, too.
@@netrade3898 indeed , very good mid range shooter
yeah, i think he was Karl's brother. can't remember which one was oldest though.@@netrade3898
Just had a feel for the position that most PGs just don't have today.
I know Rod Strickland was kind of young back then, but man... John was working him.
I thought that 28 assists was a typo.
the record is 30 (Scott Skiles), but I think Stockton had 2 or 3 other games in the high 20s. 8 steals is also absurd.
0:56 That steal was like a football play lol. Man was playing DB in a basketball court 😂
Almost every time he scores you can see him looking for the pass
I was 2 years 3 months old when this aired
Back when 20 points actually meant something.
Poetry in motion 🤙
When your awareness is at top level you become Stockton
Real basketball with some legends
If he played for the Lakers we would all be talking about him as top 15 all time
If John Stockton played for the Lakers? Well, then AD and LeBron would have better FG% and fewer assists, their record would be dramatically better, and there would be much less non-sense on the floor. The Lakers would have fewer turnovers. AD and LeBron would also enjoy going to the post much more. One of the most underrated part of John Stockton was his post entry passing..Absolutely beautiful and efficient. Also, Darwin Ham would have a secure job as the head coach.
@@MrClebophd True, but I think he meant the 80's Lakers with HOF'ers Kareem, Worthy, McAdoo, Wilkes, etc.
This is a ridiculous stat line lol all I can do is laugh. 28 assists 8 steals!?
Low scoring era yet he still got so many assists... imagine what kind of assist stat he can put up nowadays...

🐐 PG
And he did it in the 90's where everyone is as tough as nails.
He had his teammates looking like studs

People forget Stockton was nice
I've never seen him dribble with his left hand and I've watched a lot of Jazz games in the early 90s.
Yes, but I still remember. I also remember his professionalism, but most of all I remember his post-entry passes that allowed his team mate to explode to the basket in one move leaving the defender witless for a Karl Malone dunk or lay-in. This is a truly lost art.
@@Max-ys3xgHe simply didn’t need to.
Not sure what it is that make these look and sound satisfying
1987-1991 Stockton was his prime. Many people today remember the Stockton of the late 90s years. But he'd be more appreciated if people watch him during his youngher years in his 20s.
For some one who leads steals and assist no one mentions him because of no rings easily greatest no chip guard
Jeff Malone was a bucket waiting to happen.
They call assists way more liberally now to inflate triple double stats. Look at these Stockton set ups...the receiver often needing at most a single dribble to score. Not all assists are the same when you are comparing eras. Not a passer in today's league at this level.
no bad passed were detected in this video!
There are no unselfish players like this in our lifetime again
I’d say Halliburton is this type but longer
28 ast with 8 steals is wild.
Still the best pure pg ever, and should be the textbook example of basketball for all us normies who can’t jump
That's what u call smart unselfish ball
Stockton is definitely better than CP3 and it's not even close as far as best pure "small" point guards go. I have to agree with Isiah Thomas saying Magic and Oscar Robinson are the top 2 overall PG of all time though.
28アシスト?
すげぇ、そんな数字聞いた事無い
*As they will say it today, 2k stats.*
You can’t stop Stockton. Just play Defense on everyone else 😅
Caruso be doing these type of passes
