I like how you not only reinforced the bottom but the SIDES as well. Certainly a step most of us would forget about. Thanks for the tip, I am waiting on mine to arrive by post and I MAY try this...
For the side it is very important to cut the pieces in some smaller pieces otherwise it can happend if you inflate the boat and the pvc is expanding the glue may fall off.(in my case @1 side happend). Also a tipp use the side protection 10cm more down to the Bottom. Stay tuned!
Actually, that would not stick very well on the PVC the boat is made of. You would have to apply such tape every time you went out on the water (then, at the end of the day, remove and throw away the tape). Because of that, you would be better off with $2 worth of duct tape (50 m per roll, too).
Can you maybe give a little more information on how you did the modification? Did you apply the PVC glue to the pond liner while the boat was inflated?
Hi Jamon, i did all when the boat was deflated, but it´s imported that you cut the pieces not longer then say 400mm x 100mm so there is enough space for the PVC to expand and there is not to much pressure.
Hi there, how does it fold away after doing this modification please, any special technique on how to fold/roll it away for next time after doing this?
Yeah sorry did not thought about this when i had done this. But its really not complicated just cut some lines, put glue on it an stick it together with pressure. The front reinforced part just screw some holes into the pond cover and fix it together ;)
Still existing and held up. Only 2 small parts about 10cm disconnected and have to be reglued. Biggest enemy are direct sunshine to the dark areas and very high pressure on land on water no problems.
@@markweatherall7437 I did not. I realized that even with an extra tough bottom, the kayak itself is just nowhere near as rugged as a real inflatable whitewater kayak. So I ended up getting a NRS Star Outlaw.
@@Obliticus Thanks for your reply and letting me know it will not fold/roll away after deflating it. I would really like to glue the plastic membrane onto the hull and sides. From a personal point of view I wouldn't be white-water rafting in it anyway, I'm just using it for light casual leisure use in rivers and lakes and it would be just to give it some extra added protection against unseen shallow water/rocks/ sunken branches/logs etc. Do you remember if it atleast folded in half afterwards? Thanks.
@@TomKitesurf-Passion awesome, definitely going to do this. I was hesitant buying this because I thought it would be money down the drain after a few uses.

What a waste of time. I have K2 explorer for the past 3 Years and Had 2 time puncture on flat water during kayaking. Nothing can help of you if you overinflate this kayak. Yesterday I purchuse intex excursion pro, it definetly feels one step above in Quality but it is still a low budget kayak (good value for money).

All you need is a couple layers of gorilla tape 35 bucks CAN for tree rolls , and your done for the next 4 hundred years .
Great job on the kayak 👍

What if you spray it with Line-x
It'll eat the rubber away
Be careful what u use as chemicals can react to certain surfaces and eat them away
Gorilla tape !

No is still flexible so same folding as before 😆

Yes and still hold well. Per year 5times used :)

nice video, how is your boat holding up? Any changes you would make besides putting the side protection down 10cm? Danke
Yes after 2years i have put some glue on some parts but only 1cm. Side protection would be better 10cm down to bottom as you suggested

Good for you that you made this modification. But, without showing us how you did it, the video is not useful.
You have to cut the pieces and put the glue on it...thats it (when the boat is deflated. 12hours with preassure)
This will ruin the original vinyl of the boat.
Boat still hold very well so everything fine so far will update if any problems will apear
