Dude this was the interview I have been waiting for. You interviewing one of your idols must have been so awesome! Tony helped define a generation of trail runners. I liked when he addressed the high volume training. Going nuts in your younger years is ok, but sustainability in the sport need to have more realistic mileage. Learning myself firsthand about over training injuries, it seems you take the mileage for granted and then when the over training injury hits you could be donezo. Also risk burning out on the sport. Glad he is back out doing 100 milers.
i'm quite a bit older than you guys but i too came of age in ultra running during the AK, Skaggs bros. era. When you described driving over from Aspen to Twin Lakes and seeing AK running shirtless, water bottle tucked in his shorts and that representing "total freedom", yea, i get that in spades. He made it look simple and boiled things down to the essential .....living in the pick up truck all summer long in the mountains became a way of life for so many of us and for many of us, it's still that way. Happy dirtbags........ Leadville 2001 was also my first 100 and it changed the trajectory of my life and guys like AK and Kyle Skaggs gave me a model i could really relate to. I feel real lucky that i got to experience that era. It was so good to see Tony out there mixing it up again and i totally get why he did Leadville again. He's connected to that place in a big and beautiful way. Dylan.....your podcast has gotten me to re-engage in the sport a bit. you are talking about good stuff and getting to the heart of the matter. Keep it up man.....
What an absolute gem! Hands down THE best conversation with Tony! I'd say you've set an unattainable bar, but it's DBO, so I'm sure this IS the standard. Bravo!
Such a great candid interview! Tony is a buddy of mine and for a while there, I spaced out and it felt like we were out on the trail just yammering away. I really enjoy your interviews at pyllars and appreciate your "ultra" efforts at WS100 and UTMB, keep up the great work!
Dude I love how Anton talks like he’s shooting the shit with his boys and not all scripted and worried about dropping curse words. Breath of fresh air. His finish is my fan favorite of ultra-running this year, s/o Anton! 🤘🏻
I saw Anthony at White River 2010. And Speedgoat 50k. Love the way he flutters down the trail and how he's matured as a person and athlete. Thanks Dylan for a really relaxed, yet intimate interview..
Agreed, and Pyllars , Rich Roll, Mike Ritland, are some of the best interviewers period! Joe Rogan is literally minor league compared to these folks. Problem is : when you become as well known as Rogan, they own you. Not worth it.
Another great podcast! One thing that he said talked about was contriving the desire to run 100 miles (at about 1:08:00). He sais he has a privileged life, lives in the first world, and is a middle-class straight white dude without a lot of adversity in his life. He realized he has to contrive hardship (by running 100 miles) to learn the lessons that come with overcoming intense suffering. Got me thinking about how that relates to the mental/emotional rollercoasters we create. I am writing a script for a short mockumentary about dissipating shame by giving away bread. What if shame is just a way to create dynamic tension in our lives? What if shame, depression, conflict, anxiety, etc. don’t exist unless we contrive ways to bring them up solely because we don’t have any REAL hardship in our lives? Def going to have to feel into this a lot more…
Dylan, wonderful content, you're doing so much, can't wait for the next stuff, thanks, When i first started understanding ultrarunning, Anton was the man...he still is , thanks for sharing, could listen all day. if fact i did last month.
Anton's videos in particular, but including his writing, provide insight into his personal journey as well as his philosophy. Being close to the earth, and moving in the mountains in the most basic human ways I hope will be his legacy, but after this 3rd place finish, I hope he can redefine ultra-running once again as a means to create inspiration for others, especially those in a relationship wherein their significant other is there throughout the training and the race. Pretty special guy and I hope he gets a victory ASAP.
This is so amazing. Tony was the first ultra-runner I met when he was out doing a film tour back in 2014 I think, been an inspiration over the years for sure.
Yes! Excellent podcast! Tony was one of my major inspirations in viewing trail running as an opportunity for freedom and connection with nature as opposed to a physical grind or something to be "conquered".
I am thankful for the questions about Anton's writing, which was always such a treat. Pleased to hear how that will be a bigger part of his life moving forward! (Perhaps a Leuchtturm writing notebook on his end table??)
Agreed! Well done. The WS coverage was insane as well! The lady with you is rock solid too. You both got the voice , the look ( she needs to ditch the bangs) and knowledge. Keep it up!
Ya know my favorite part of these.....there's no fluff. No lengthy intro, no pandering to anything or anybody, just content. Love this.
Thank you!!

Epic, great interview. Such a legend. That video of him and Killian running in the teton's so good.

The Johnny Carson of this area. Patient, engaged, thoughtful, insightful, charismatic, ...
Appreciate that so much!
Agree. diBo’ personality, way he interacts with people are superb - even his voice is enjoyable to listen to .
What a treat! thx you both!
Thank you!

This is pure gold
Pyllars on an absolute tear recently. How about the quality of guest?! 🔥
Hahah, thanks!

I love his writing more than anything.
Who's not psyched after this??
Inspiring.
DBo's professional mic a bit low in gain/volume. Great introspective convo!
Yeah, there was an issue with the way I recorded with zoom. It's a bummer but Ryan (producer) did the best he could and we've fixed it going forward.
34:28 "I didn't give a shit what place I was!"
1:00:24 funny story about Cody Reed 😂
The wisdom of age!
I am a simple man - i see Tony, i press like (even before watching)
Dbo can get you in UTMB Tony. Don't worry
Hahah, I wish!
@@Freetrail great interview btw
Tim Olson and now Anton!? Is this real?
